Book of Isaiah 6

Isaiah 6: Holy, Holy, Holy
GK611 Morning Devotion
13/04/2022
Speaker: Rev David Tan

Introduction:

People call the emperor on earth: “Long live the emperor” —-!

1. Earthly and heavenly authorities (V1-4)

King Uzziah represented the earthly authority, and his death was not due to war or old age, but to the great trouble of offending God to death (2 Chronicles 26). This means that no earthly authority, no matter how majestic, can override divine authority. God has rules, laws, and regulations; even kings in power need to keep the rules in matters of faith and spirituality. Just as there are many examples in the world of supreme leaders of nations such as heads of state and presidents, they are not exempt from the law when they break the law.

The living angels before the throne of God, all these seraphim, cover their faces with their wings, perhaps to show reverence; cover their feet with their wings, perhaps to show holiness; and fly with their wings, to show swiftness of action. They cry out to one another, Holy, holy, holy! indicates that God is perfectly holy, and that not the slightest sinful defilement is allowed. When God reigns, complete glory fills the whole earth, and the temple is filled with the smoke and cloud of God’s presence. In the presence of the perfect God, all things on earth appear to be filthy and unclean, deficient and corrupt. This is the time when our lives come to the Lord for self-examination and prayer, so that we may become more like the holy God.

2. God has the grace of cleansing and forgiveness of sins (V5-7)

As soon as the prophet saw the throne of God and the glory of the Lord, he immediately realized ‘It’s over’! Woe to him! Because he found himself not only with unclean lips, unable to speak with grace, but also living among many sinners who did not cover their mouths; plus seeing the holy God with his own eyes, he thought to himself that he was dead this time. (Just like Peter, when he saw the miracle of the Lord, immediately realized that he was a sinner, and even begged the Lord to leave him, because he could not bear the light of His holiness.) But then one of the seraphim took the coals from the altar and dabbed the prophet’s mouth, and he was completely cleansed and forgiven of his sins.

We all know that God has the grace to forgive sins, but for the people of the Old Testament, how could there be the grace to forgive sins unless they did not sin? It turns out that they were cleansed through the cleansing of the coals on the altar. The altar represented sacrifice for sin in the Old Testament, but for us it represents worship and prayer, and through the altar of the lyre and the furnace, life is cleansed. In the last generation, God is raising up altars of worship and prayer all over the world, so that God’s people may be purified and prepared to meet the Lord in holiness. Therefore, we need to draw on the power of the saving blood of Christ, especially during this Passover week, so that we may all be cleansed and sanctified by the blood of the Lord.

3. Who is willing to be sent and preached the gospel of the Lord (V8-10)

The voice of the Lord calls out at this time, “Whom can I send? Who will go for us?”
Can you respond as directly and simply as the prophet Isaiah did, “Here I am, send me?”
God wants to call people to preach the message of turning back, to obey God’s word, and to keep His commandments and statutes. But God, in His omniscience, already knew that people would turn a deaf ear, turn a blind eye, and be absent-minded. So God simply said, “Let this people’s hearts be greased, their ears dulled, and their eyes dulled.” Otherwise they would have turned around and been healed. Strange, isn’t it God’s intention to turn around and be healed? It turns out that when people are rebellious and unwilling to obey, God does not force them, but even leaves them to their own devices, for they are responsible for their own choices.

The unrepentant people of Israel in the Old Testament were hardened in their hearts and refused to listen to the truth; what about the non-Christians in the modern world? Is it not more difficult to obey the truth? But the Lord still calls workers in this generation: “Whom can I send? Who will go for us?” So that the world might be set apart from the world and be sanctified.

4. The power of continuity of life still exists (V11-13)

How long will man’s disobedience last? There are those who do not see the coffin, and those who do not repent! There are those who will not repent until the time of the tribulation and punishment. Is it different in our present generation? Actually, it is the same.

If this were the case, would Israel still be saved? Will there be any believers in the future generation? Of course, there is always salvation by grace in the judgmental discipline of God. God’s promises do not change, only those who refuse to receive grace lose the opportunity. v13 “The tree – though it be cut down, the stump remains.” God’s promises never end, and while one generation is lost, there is hope for the next.

Conclusion: God is absolutely holy

People often say: unattainable high? Is holiness unattainable? Thank the Lord that although our God is holy, He delights to dwell in us and be our guide. He listens to our cries and leads us in our lives.

1. Reminder of the song of the vineyard (V1-7)

(1) The Lord’s expectation for the vineyard (V1-2,7)

God expected the house of Israel and Judah to bear good fruit of life, a righteous and holy life, so that they might be an example among the nations, but it was not turn out the way it should be. We need to understand the desire of God is to keep producing good fruit of life in Him!

(2) The Lord’s judgment on the vineyard (V3-6)

God will execute judgment in the face of the people’s disobedience, hoping to turn them back through suffering.

2. The warning of the six sins of the vineyard (V8-25)

Covetousness and selfishness will lead to disaster!

(2) Woe to those who indulge in feasting (V11-17)

Woe to those who indulge in food, drink and pleasure without regard for the things of God!

Self-righteousness and pride bring disaster!

(6) Woe to those who give in to self-interest (V22-25)

Woe to those who distort righteousness to their own advantage!

3. The vineyard will be corrected quickly (V26-30)

God’s judgment will not be delayed any longer. Let us all look for good fruit in our lives, so that we can prepare ourselves for the Lord’s return!

Conclusion:

Jesus values fruitfulness in our lives. We should no longer think that believing in the Lord means coming to gatherings and doing what Christians are supposed to do. We must continue to experience renewal and breakthroughs in our lives in the Lord, and become the Lord’s beautiful vine, bearing abundant fruit for the glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ!

Isaiah 4: Judgement and Salvation
GK611 Morning Devotion
08/04/2022
Speaker: Rev Moses Li

Introduction:

Isaiah prophesied that God’s people would suffer national judgment if they did not repent of their sins, but that there would be a revival of God’s grace after the disaster. God ultimately promised to provide salvation for them.

1. That day of judgment (V1)

Because of the captivity of war, men were gone. Because of this scourge, women also suffered shame.

2. Honour and enjoy the beauty of the blessing (V2)

After the discipline of God, the remnant that has turned back will enjoy the blessings again.

3. Burn and Remove the sins and Iniquity (V3-4)

God will raise up circumstances to refine the people by His Spirit, to restore them to righteousness and holiness, and to preserve salvation for them.

4. Salvation and Righteousness (V5-6)

God himself will be a covering for the people, saving and protecting them to the end.

Conclusion:

In life, we often have weaknesses, failures, and even sins, but if we confess our sins again and repent of what we have done, we will be able to return to God’s favour again. God says, “There will be a tabernacle for shade in the daytime from the heat, for a place of refuge, and for a shelter from storm and rain.”

The prophet Isaiah continues to deliver the word of God that God will come to judge Judea and Jerusalem. Let all the people of God know the consequences of disobeying God.

I. Take away both supply and support (V1-12)

1. Take away what life depends on (V1)

If food was taken away, there will be famine; if water was taken away, there will be drought.

2. Take away what the country depends on (V2-7)

God also wants to take away those whom the country relies on, such as the ruler, leader, hero, and warrior. Let children and youths rule over them, people will oppress each other. The order is reversed, and the country has no fairness and justice.

3. Everyone is being judged according to his deeds (V8-12)

Those who oppose God will surely be punished. Every ending was an outcome of what we sowed.

II. The elder leaders were being judged too (V13-15)

God wants to judge for himself the incompetent rulers who oppress the poor. Those who judged not in accordance with truth, but ate up all the fruits of the vineyard, exploited the citizens, oppressed the people, and abused the poor.

The authority God gives to people is not for benefiting oneself and taking advantages of others or bullying others; it is for the purpose of glorifying God and edifying people.

III. The punishment that will fall on that day (V16-26)

1. Women of Zion will not have finery (V16-24)

The women of Judah valued clothing and jewellery more than God. Dressing up to attract attention, being self-centered, but not caring for God’s people, not pursuing God. God was angry with them, saying that one day all the finery will be gone, and stench shall replace fragrance. . .

2. The city of Zion will be desolation (V25-26)

Eventually, it will be a grieved ending. The walls of Jerusalem were destroyed, the temple was demolished, and the saints were killed and taken into captivity. There was sadness and desolation. This is all because the people have been rebelling against God and did not fear Him.

Conclusion:

Man was created by God, and if we do not conform to God’s will and do not glorify Him, we will face God’s judgment and be abolished by Him.
Therefore, we must be a useful vessel for God, and be a vessel that glorify God and benefit people!

Proverbs 8

Proverbs 7

16/04/2022
