20/01/2022
Hebrews 11: Faith
GK611 Morning Devotion
20/01/2022
Speaker: Rev David Tan
Introduction: Do you have faith?
Living in the real world, we need to use faith every moment.
1. By Faith (v1-5)
Our God, our future life, and the eternal world are unseen and unknown; but we need to believe in the Bible, in the God it speaks of, and in the Lord we have experienced.
(1) Physical Evidence (v1)
When one believes the same thing, it often takes observation, understanding, experience, and long analysis. But how does one actually experience God in faith, and truly experience the reality of God? Not through the scientific argumentation described above, but through the opposite methodology: faith! It is not to believe only after proving it, but to experience it slowly after really believing.
(2) Examples of ancient people (v2-5)
How did ancient man believe that all things were made by the word of God’s mouth?
Abel heard it from his father, Adam, because Adam was the first witness of all things in the universe, and even named the animals. However, Adam was not created until after the appearance of all things, and strictly speaking he did not witness how all things were created, but he believed only what God said. He had sheep in his hands, and in order to express his gratitude and worship to God, he killed one of the few sheep and offered it to God, and this was his faith in God.
Enoch believed that God is the Lord of all, and the ultimate goal of life is to return to God. Enoch walked with God for 300 years by faith and built a very intimate relationship with God, so he was eventually picked up by God without having to taste death. To walk with God in faith is to live a life of power, where God is pleased with himself and God is pleased with him.
2. Pleased by God (v6-12)
Blessed are you if God is pleased with you, and woe to you if God despises you. But how to be pleasing to God?
(1) Simple faith in God (v6)
Unbelief is not pleasing, but what is [faith]?
Believing that there is a God is the first step. Do you believe that there is a God? Of course, otherwise you wouldn’t be here, you wouldn’t be a Christian, would you? But do you know that the devil also believes in God? (James 2:19) But the relationship is not right, believing in God is not enough.
The second thing is to believe that God rewards those who seek Him. The word “reward” in the original language means a reward and a wage. It turns out that when one simply believes, you receive the wages of the reward that God gives. What does this mean? Peace, hope, victory, strength, joy, etc. in Christ are the “wages of faith”. They go far beyond the material things of life.
(2) Faith of the ancestors (v7-12)
The blessings experienced by the two God-pleasing patriarchs are mentioned here.
The faith of Noah saved his family from the flood of destruction by building the ark. All the unbelievers of the day were destroyed, but only those who believed were saved and entered a new world.
Then came the faith of Abraham, who became the forefather of Israel and the father of many nations. For Abraham is not only the father of Israel, but now he is also the father of us, the church of the Gentiles, is he not? Galatians 3:29 “And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” The Christians and churches in the nations are all descendants of Abraham, so Abraham’s faith made him such a blessed spiritual forefather, didn’t it?
They were all blessed by faith, and we who have been converted today are all listed in this blessed group. The city of the future is yet to be seen, but miraculous experiences are a common occurrence, aren’t they?
3. City of Hope (v13-40)
In the following (v13-16) passage between the lines there is a reference to a city in heaven seen from afar!
(1) Depart from this world filling with hope (v13-15)
The world is a traveling place, and whatever we live there is over after a few decades. Without an eternal place to go that we can believe in and receive, life actually ends in a lament. Just think, success in life is all about a lot of hard work. Many people have worked for most of their lives, and if they are successful, they are financially stable, and they have become a family, and then their children have grown up and become independent. At this time, if the two old people can both healthy travel leisure vacation life is happiness. However, at this stage of life, they often have poor physical strength, poor appetite and limited mobility. In addition to the worldwide epidemic factors, money can not leave the country. You think such a day even if you have the ability to enjoy, but also have no opportunity to enjoy, life will soon be over. What kind of life is this? If you don’t believe in eternity, life is too sad! Therefore, if one receives eternal and trustworthy salvation, this faith will have hope after leaving the world.
(2) A better home
Faith gives us an eternal hope, and faith allows us to look into a holy city in heaven that is beautiful beyond measure. It is the new heaven and the new earth, the new Jerusalem, the place where we will live with God in the future. What beauty! What a hope! The time to return home is not a time to grow old and enjoy the blessings of old age, but an eternal dwelling place of eternal joy in a glorious and perfect new body. With such a hope, do you think you will have to work for the world alone in your life?
(3) Faith of the sages
The writer of Hebrews made a simple list of the faith of the Old Testament fathers through the ages, from Isaac, the son of Abraham, all the way to David, the king of kings, and so on, by faith. Faith that there is a God, and faith that God rewards the eternal homeland, so that all the grievances and sufferings on earth are just passing clouds.
It is by faith that we continue to walk in heaven, and we are now closer to the coming of the eternal city of heaven than our ancestors were back then, aren’t we excited and looking forward to it?
(4) Faith to perfection
Because faith in God can subdue the enemies and survive all the trials, tribulations, and disasters of life. It is also through faith that we receive good evidence, which becomes our hope and strength to continue our future life path.
Conclusion: Believe and Act!
We have all come to where we are today because we [believe], and we need to keep being thankful, thankful, and thankful again. The greatest action of gratitude is to repay gratitude, and the greatest act of repaying gratitude is to believe firmly in ourselves and to help those who have weak faith to be strengthened. And then help those who don’t have such faith to get such faith.

Hebrews 10: The Path To 100 Percent Victory
GK611 Morning Devotion
19/01/2022
Speaker: Ps Deborah Tan + Rev David Tan
1. Christ Offers Himself 100% (v1-18)
(1) The offering of the body according to the will of God (v1-10)
Although the sacrifice of the Old Testament was ordained by the Father and instituted through Moses, yet it did not enter into the full kindness of God. For the sin of man had no real relation to the blood of bulls and goats. Moreover, these animals were not slaughtered voluntarily, nor did they know the meaning of their sacrifice, so the blood of animals does not take away the sins of us morally conscious human beings. Only the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus can make a man whole. The Old Testament law and sacrifices are only a shadow of the things to come, and it all points to Christ.
V5-10 The Lord did not come with other external things or animals to offer as a sacrifice. He came with His own body, and the scriptures repeat that He came according to the will of God the Father. Therefore, children of God, let us also follow the example of Christ and offer our bodies as a living sacrifice according to the will of God the Father, which is holy and pleasing to God, and it is only right that we serve in this way (Rom 12:1). For if the body is not offered for God’s use, it will be used at one’s own will or by Satan. When the body is not ruled by God, it indulges the lusts of the flesh to the point of being ruled by it.
(2) Once offered forever complete (v11-18)
The Old Testament sacrifice was that the priest had to stand daily and offer repeatedly, that was because the sacrifice offered by the priest did not remove sin. Besides, the priests were also sinners. However, Jesus’ offering was a 100% offering without reservation. Many times, the offering we offer up is not 100%. That is why what Jesus did is always complete, but what we do often fails to achieve long-term results, that we cannot sit down and rest after we have done it, as the Lord did. Instead, we toil and toil, the result would only be half of our effort.
V14-16 says that the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus not only makes us the sanctified ones, but also gives us the status of sanctification. However, sanctification in life is something we need to strive for. Therefore, God has engraved His word in our hearts and given us the Comforter of the Holy Spirit, so that we can be 100% victorious in our life performance, in our words, thoughts, and preferences. For the Word of God and the Spirit of God are in us. When our lives are filled with the word of God and led by the Spirit of God, it is really hard not to break through.
2. The Way to 100% Victory (v19-23)
The Holy of Holies in the temple was separated from the Most Holy Place by a veil. The purpose was to block the way of the sinful man to enter the Most Holy Place, and man’s relationship with God was disconnected.
When Jesus breathed his last on the cross, the veil of the temple was split open. Through the blood of the Lord, we can enter the Holy of Holies openly and draw near to God. Jesus opened a new and living way for us, a way to be restored to our relationship with God. This way is not like VTL, which is affected by a virus, so only a few people can get it. This new and living path of Christ is open to all, and is beyond all earthly and spiritual viruses. Therefore, not only do we, His children, have to walk on this path often to strengthen our already restored relationship with God. More than that, we are to be on this path of restoring relationships with others and helping others to restore their relationship with God.
3. He Who Perseveres to the End Will Triumph (v24-39)
The Lord Jesus’ 100% dedication opens the way for us to be 100% victorious. In theory, the Christian life should be very powerful and glorious. But why do we still have so many weaknesses and fail to learn the spiritual lessons we need to learn, and are often beaten by the enemy in battles, like a defeated rooster?
To be able to stand firm and triumph in this new and living way:
(1) Do not stop the meeting (v24-31)
Although the Lord has opened this path of 100% victory for us, Christians will still face a severe winter. How do we stay on this road without slipping and freezing to death? One of the most important things is not to stop meeting. In the hard times of the end, the members of the Lord must be closely connected. Like sheep huddled together to keep each other warm in a severe winter, they should care for each other, inspire love, and encourage good deeds.
Because of the epidemic, online meetings are common. Some brothers and sisters, today they like to go to the website of a church in America, tomorrow to Taiwan, and the day after tomorrow to the equipping course of a church in Hong Kong. In fact, such a situation is like a budding fruit tree. Think about it, today it is in the soil of America, tomorrow it is pulled out and replaced with Taiwan, before the tree is firmly established, it is pulled out again and planted in the soil of Hong Kong. Do you think this tree will be able to grow healthy? It’s difficult, not to mention bearing fruit.
There are also many online pastoral care without borders nowadays, which indeed allows a wider and different nationality of group members to participate in the group through online. But as the saying goes, a distant relative is none better than a close neighbor, and distant water cannot put out a nearby fire. If a group member encounters a great and urgent difficulty and needs help, there are many times when the group leader, who is abroad, is actually at his wits’ end. It’s not easy to build a real deep relationship across the screen. Also, I don’t know about everyone, but I myself have found that meeting in zoom, gathering online, has really caused me to regress spiritually and to have a growing lack of fear of God. Not to mention the opportunity to drill lives, bear spiritual fruit, look out for one another, inspire love, and encourage good works.
People have to have real interaction with each other in order to learn love and tolerance and to grind out a humble and gentle life. Therefore, brothers and sisters, we can return to physical meetings and cell groups today, we really have to cherish it because it is God’s intention. It is also a platform to train and build up our spiritual life growth. Otherwise we will easily allow ourselves to be trapped in the dangerous situation of apathy and apostasy and go with the flow. As V26 describes, after learning the truth, one sins willfully, so that the sacrifice for sin is no longer there. The end is to await the fiery judgment.
(2) Always remember the former days (v32-34)
The apostle Paul tells us that while we are running the race of heaven, we should always remember how God led us through a difficult time in the past. For this will not only help us to always be thankful and count God’s grace every day, but will also kill our flesh. For we know that we can do nothing apart from the Lord. And as we become more thankful, we will receive more of God’s love and love people more.
3. Endure a little more (v35-39)
One of the purposes of the apostle Paul’s letter to the Hebrews was to encourage the Jewish believers who were facing persecution at the time and had already backed off and given up their faith. In the same way, as we look at the situation in the world now, it is nearing the end. The powers of darkness are making their last dying struggle, desperately attacking and confusing the children of God. But we are to stand boldly and uncompromisingly for the truth.
Moreover, to be able to stand firm and triumph in this new and living way, it is very important to persevere to the end in the midst of difficulties. Often we lose to the enemy because of a little less perseverance and patience, hence we were defeated by the devil, and have to learn the lesson again from the beginning.
Conclusion: Become a 100% Winner
Jesus Christ gave His body 100% according to the will of God, and accomplished for us eternal and complete salvation. A new and living way has been opened for us, a way that is already 100% victorious. In the midst of trials, let us rely on the Holy Spirit to persevere to the end, and we will become 100% winners in the 100% victorious way of Christ!

Introduction:
Since ancient times, man has been making sacrifices to please the gods, especially to atone for his sins, so that the gods can forgive him and bless him! Nowadays, although technology is very advanced, there are still many faiths that continue to make sacrifices, which shows that there is still a sense of conscience in the heart of man that he needs to make amends through sacrifice. This chapter shows us that Christ has actually accomplished that perfect sacrifice.
Especially when the author interprets it to the Jewish Christians, the sacrifice that Christ accomplished was so perfect that He made up for all the defects in the sacrificial system of the Jewish faith!
(1) Inadequate Earthly Sacrifice (v1-10)
Although the tabernacle and sacrificial system of the Old Testament was received directly from God by Moses and established according to God’s word, the implementation was not perfect. Especially the worshipers and the sacrificers, whether through offering gifts or sacrifices, still feel bad in their conscience.
It is often the case that people take the religious concept of doing good deeds to atone for their sins, because their conscience is a little better after doing them, but if they don’t continue doing them, they feel that they are not perfect.
(2) The Heavenly Perfect Sacrifice (v11-28)
God knew the weaknesses of man and the defects of the Old Testament sacrificial system, so He also prepared Christ to fulfill that heavenly and perfect sacrifice.
1. The sacrifice of the purification of the heart from dead works (v11-14)
The sinless offering of Christ Himself entered into the true sanctuary, and so made an eternal and perfect atonement. And His sacrifice also saves from the debts of conscience, and from the dead works of religion, including the formal but insubstantial pattern of faith (v14)!
We all need to truly know the salvation that Jesus has laid out for us, and to break away from the life of faith that is all form and no substance!
2. The sacrifice of the atonement for sin and the giving of the inheritance (v15-22)
In addition to being our mediator of atonement and taking away our punishment, Christ also gives us eternal inheritance, which we can enjoy because of Christ’s true sacrifice of His blood for us. It is as if the scripture says that for a will to be effective, it needs to be received by the beneficiary after the person has passed away.
Let us see again how valuable our salvation is, that we are forgiven of our sins, that we no longer need to be punished, and that we have an inheritance, so we must not take the gift of salvation for granted! God is not actually obligated to save us, but He loves us enough to have His beloved Son Jesus so laid out for us!
3. The perfect sacrifice of the true sanctuary (v23-28)
The earthly sacrificial system is rooted in the sacrificial system already established by God in heaven. Therefore, the objects in the true sanctuary in heaven can be said to be perfect, but God also purifies them by the blood of Christ according to the ordinance of the sacrificial system. Although Christ did not enter the earthly sanctuary, he entered directly into the true sanctuary in heaven to offer his sinless self as a perfect sacrifice, so that man might be saved from the second death, and would be saved in the last judgment ordained by God!
Let us receive more deeply the perfection of Christ’s sacrifice for us, and let us put away all our contemptuous attitudes toward God! Let God’s Word also remind us once again that the final judgment at the end is true, or we Christians would not need to evangelize today. Pray that God will give us good opportunities to continue preaching the gospel of the Lord also in the wisdom and power of His Holy Spirit!
Conclusion:
Although the earthly sacrificial system and regulations were given by God through Moses, they were still inadequate, for they were carried out by sinful and weak men. However, when the sinless Christ, who came down from heaven, truly entered into the heavenly sacrificial system through His own sacrifice to atone for our sins, the whole salvation is complete!
Let us all respond to the salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ with a respectful and grateful heart, and live a true life of love and fear of God. Help us also to continue to preach the gospel of the Lord with fervor because we see the preciousness of this salvation!

Hebrew 8: Try Your Best To Be Perfect and Receive The Promise
GK611 Morning Devotion
14/01/2022
Speaker: IP Stella Ling + Rev David Tan
Introduction:
This chapter of scripture shows us to enter into this more beautiful covenant.
1. Christ is the High Priest (v1-6a)
When Jesus offered His life, which was death, we know that the Veil was torn and was then split open. This means that it is by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ that men can go to the throne of grace. Therefore, we can come to God through this high priest, and that we may be perfect. Through Christ’s accomplished salvation, we can enter into this more beautiful covenant through Him.
2. The New Covenant Replaces the Old Covenant (V6b-13)
(1) A beautiful covenant (V6b-9)
The more beautiful covenant refers to the new covenant. The so-called new covenant must be more beautiful than the old covenant. Therefore, we should be prepared to enter into the promise of the new covenant with God’s plan.
(2) Inscribed on the hearts of men (V10-13)
In the Old Testament, the law was written on stone tablets, and the message was taught and read by the Levites, the priests, and the prophets, but man’s intellect and memory were limited, and he lacked the strength to obey it. Therefore, though there were ten thousand laws, they were seldom practiced.
The New Testament is God putting the law in man. God will speak to us personally, teach us personally, and bring us into the more beautiful promises that God will give us. The promise is that no matter what our situation is, we can come to the throne of grace and enter into the presence of God. God will speak to us personally, will help us, and give us wisdom and strength.
Conclusion:
Ask God to help us to enter into the more beautiful covenant, knowing that Christ is the high priest who has offered the sacrifice of atonement for our sins. And that we may live in the new covenant, so that we may walk in the promises of God, and also experience God through knowing Him.

Hebrews 7: The Advocate of the Better Covenant – Jesus
GK611 Morning Devotion
13/1/2022
Speaker: Asher + Rev David Tan
Introduction:
Jesus is our eternal High Priest, He is the High Priest of the more beautiful covenant, and we are all people who have experienced the mighty works of Jesus.
1. The High Priest on Earth Prefigures Christ (V1-19)
(1) The high priest on earth: the equal status of Melchizedek
This chapter is about Melchizedek, an exalted priest, to show the Hebrews of the time that Jesus did not just appear out of nowhere, but that the entire Old Testament was a fulfillment of the prophecy that Jesus was the Messiah.
(2) Prefiguring the identity of Jesus
Today, we believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of our lives. He is the One who was prophesied and expected by many prophets in the Old Testament. Now we are able to understand more, because we are all on this side of history, having experienced the works of Jesus Christ. So we are more able to understand and comprehend what is foretold in all this.
2. Jesus, the heavenly and eternal High Priest (V20-28)
(1) Jesus became the advocate of the better covenant
The ‘better covenant’ is a ‘new covenant’ made by Jesus with ‘blood’, because with this ‘new covenant’ we can come directly to God through Christ, without relying on sacrificial animals and priests to ask for God’s forgiveness. The word ‘advocate’ means ‘guarantor’ and ‘surety’.
The Lord Jesus became the advocate of the more beautiful covenant because His priesthood was ordained by God’s oath. The Lord’s coming is once and forever effective. He can truly be the bridge between God and man.
(2) Jesus lives forever to pray on our behalf
Verse 25 mentioned about Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for us. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Therefore we must always stay close to the Lord, hold fast to our faith and not give up, lest we lose our salvation.
Conclusion:
We go to the crowds on Christ’s behalf, and also play the role of ‘advocate’, we are the mouthpiece of Christ’s salvation. Continue to be the Lord’s witnesses in this age, introducing them to Jesus, the Advocate who redeems us and leads people to the Lord.

Hebrews 6: Try Your Best To Be Perfect & Receive The Promise
GK611 Morning Devotion
12/1/2022
Speaker: IP Daniel Kew + Rev David Tan
Introduction:
Hebrews 6 follows the previous chapter on to ‘of full age’ and eat solid food, and then to go deeper, not to stop at the basic truths. You must make every effort to enter into perfection and receive the promises of God, lest you suffer the end of burning.
1. Leaving the Beginning to Enter into Perfection (v1-3)
This passage exhorts the believers of that time to grow in faith. So one should leave the beginnings of Christ’s reasoning in order to make every effort to enter into perfection.
These ‘beginnings’ as ‘foundations’ are very important. But let us not stop at the foundations. Let’s build on top of the foundation!
‘Leave’ does not mean to depart, it means to move on, not to stay where we are.
The original word for ‘perfect’ means ‘mature’, the same word as ‘of full age’ (Heb. 5:14).
If God permits it He will help. Therefore, we need to respond to God’s teaching and rely on Him to help us live out the truth, just as we move from the beginning to the middle and finally to the high. Grow in spiritual maturity and enter into the promises of God!
2. Do Not Turn Away From the Word of Christ (V4-8)
(1) No repentance for those who forsake (V4-6)
We must first understand the difference between ‘falling’ and ‘forsaking’. It is inevitable that people ‘fall into weakness and make mistakes’, but if we turn and repent, Christ will not abandon us, but will continue to be with them! To ‘forsake’ means to deliberately turn away from the truth and completely abandon Christ to bring shame to the Lord.
So, one cannot regret having forsaken the truth because the backslider has chosen ‘not to regret’! Having forsaken the Lord, one cannot find salvation elsewhere either, so there is no repentance!
(2) The end of forsaking is to be burned (V7-8)
If a man is blessed, but his life is unrepentant, he is like a field that has been blessed by God, but grows thorns and thistles; if he forsakes the way of Christ, his end will be to be burned and not to be used by God. And no one will blame the owner for burning it!
3. The Promise of Patience by Faith (V9-20)
(1) Serve diligently and persevere to the end (V10-12)
To enter into the promises of God, it is one of the important keys to rise up and serve God, and to do so diligently in spite of the difficulties and challenges!
Persevere to the end with hope, following the example of those who bear the promises of God. God sees and remembers everything!
(2) Perseverance and receiving the promises (V13-20)
Abraham can be said to be a good example of bearing the promise by faith and patience, which can inspire the discouraged believers at that time to follow the example of perseverance and not to give up halfway.
Conclusion:
Pray that the Lord would help us to make every effort to enter into perfection, to grow spiritually mature, to have soul anchors in our lives, to follow the Lord into the veil with God, and to receive the good promises of God!

Hebrews 5: Acknowledge Christ, Growing Into Maturity
GK611 Morning Devotion
11/01/2022
Speaker: IP Moses Ou + Rev David Tan
Introduction:
In the previous chapters of Hebrews we saw the contrast between Jesus and the angels, the contrast between Jesus and Moses, and today as we move into chapter 5 we will begin to see the contrast between Jesus and the priests, in order that the Hebrew believers of that time would continue to see the excellence of the Savior Jesus Christ! Today’s chapter not only identifies us again with the Lord Jesus, but also exhorts us to break away from the beginning in our faith and to make every effort to enter into a state of growth and maturity!
1. Acknowledging The Preeminent Christ (v1-10)
(1) Christ’s Non-Earthly Chosen High Priest (v1-4)
By contrasting this with the divinely chosen priests on earth, it is shown that Christ was not an earthly chosen high priest, that He Himself was without sin, and therefore He was not required to offer an atoning sacrifice for Himself, which shows that Christ was a perfect priest!
(2) Christ is the High Priest Chosen From Heaven (v5-10)
Priests are all called by God, and so was Christ, but He was not a chosen priest on earth, for He was not a descendant of Aaron, but He was a high priest chosen from heaven, and then came to earth from heaven. So He went to be a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek!
Christ, the priest, though sinless, offered Himself in perfect obedience to God to be an eternal sacrifice of atonement for us, and to accomplish salvation on the cross!
So let us follow the example of the humble and obedient Christ, and continue to rely on God steadfastly by the Holy Spirit in our sufferings, call upon Him, and continue to choose praise, and we shall experience the salvation and glory of God!
2. Choosing to Grow Up and Mature (v11-14)
Let us not stay in the beginning of faith, which is the stage of being fed all the time, but enter the stage of growing up and maturing, where we chew and digest, absorb the truth, and know how to distinguish between good and bad!
Conclusion:
Determine the excellence of Christ, be rooted in Christ, desire to grow and mature in the Spirit, and not only receive it for yourself, but also begin to pass on the truth to those around you! Imitate the humble obedience of Christ in all hardships, and continue to choose prayer and praise in the midst of suffering, and you will experience the salvation and glory of God!
