Proverbs 2【Encounter Wisdom】
GK611 Morning Devotion

The Morning Devotion Speakers: Rev. David Tan
Introduction
Who do you meet in your life? It often affects the direction of your entire life…!
1. Seek wisdom with all your heart (Proverbs 2:1-5)
To seek wisdom wholeheartedly, the ultimate goal is to know God better. Through: 1. Inspiring 2. Remembering 3. Listening 4. Seeking 5. Crying out 6. Searching 7. Fearing… These series of actions is ultimately to【Know God】. What do you know about God? What has He given us? What exactly has God placed in us? In fact, it is the attributes and truth of God, the image of God and the power of wisdom.
2. The upright man gains true wisdom (Proverbs 2:6-9)
“God gives wisdom to man and preserves true wisdom for the upright.” It is like God is taking the initiative to give people wisdom, rather than man actively pursuing or seeking wisdom? In fact, everyone has basic freedom and choice. Upright man does not necessarily have the qualities of being Christian because they believe in the Lord. People who grow up in a civilized society today probably know what is good and what is bad. An upright person does not follow crooked ways but does things justly and honourably. When people choose to be upright person, God is willing to bestow true wisdom, and they can better understand and appreciate the attributes of God’s justice and goodness.
3. A wise mind gains knowledge (Proverbs 2:10-15)
【Wisdom】is an attribute of God himself. Just like the name of the Lord can also be called: “Wonderful, Counsellor, Almighty God, the Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” [Wonderful] is the title of the Lord Jesus. When wisdom enters your heart, the spirit within us will produce “new knowledge”; this new knowledge does not refer to new knowledge in learning, but a timely inspiration. The following says:
(1) Discretion—know how to do things wisely, do things well, and do things in an orderly manner, so that your path will be prosperous without hindrance.
(2) Deliver from the way of evil – People who are stuck in the mud cannot extricate themselves, but [wisdom] can save us from the wrong way. It means being able to wake up and turn around.
(3) Away from evil words – perverted and vicious words can kill people and control people, but wisdom can take us out of all these.
4. Wisdom saves you from immoral woman (Proverbs 2:16-19)
[Wisdom] will deliver you from immoral woman, that is, immoral women who seduce people with their lust and beauty. The bondage of lust is also a poisonous hook of death, which can lock people firmly and fall into the net of depravity. No one should doubt that God can save people from all kinds of bondage. But here it is said that [wisdom] will save you from the adulterer, which means that wisdom can help your mind to analyse and judge, whether is it good to be seduced by lust? Is it right to do so? Is it a dead end? The answer is [yes], therefore resist the temptation. While getting rid of bondage, we are also moving towards spiritual freedom and a life without bondage.
Conclusion: Wisdom leads you to the paths of righteousness (Proverbs 2:20-22)
Wisdom becomes our life, leading us in a righteous and good path, so that we may live in peace in this world, overcoming the world and its temptations.

The Morning Devotion Speakers: Ps. Deborah Tan
Introduction: Are you on God’s side?
1. What are the choices in times of trouble?
(1) Choose to turn or flee (v1)
To ‘flee as a bird to your mountain’ means to hide in a safe place or to solve a problem in the way that man thinks is reasonable.
Saul tried to kill David several times because he was jealous of him. So when David came to the temple to take shelter, his friends advised him to flee the temple quickly and find a more distant and secluded place to shelter from Saul. But this advice was rejected by David, firmly. For David was steadfast in his belief that God was the source of his peace and his refuge. Therefore, he firmly chose to turn to God rather than to run away.
When we face crises and troubles, if God is still not moving today, do our hearts continue to be tightly connected to Him? Do we still choose to stand on God’s side and trust Him?
(2) The consequences of running away (v2-3)
David’s friends advised him to flee because his life was at stake. The foundation of justice and righteousness for the whole nation had been destroyed by King Saul’s disobedience and jealousy. At a time when the foundations had been dismantled and the wicked thief was in charge, David had no place to stand, so how could he turn the situation around on his own?
Although his friends’ analyses were well founded, David, who was after God’s own heart, did not choose to run away because he knew God. For he knew that using human methods would only provide a temporary escape from a temporary problem, but would not solve the enemy’s attack on the foundations of faith.
There is no protection behind the full armour of God. For God does not want us to be deserters. Only when we turn to God and face them with courage can we rise above the difficulties and stand firm on the foundations of our faith.
2. You will see God when you trust in the Lord (v4-7)
(1) God is still reigning (v4)
In v4, God is seen to have never taken His eyes off all His creatures and protects those who will trust Him on three levels.
First, although God is the omnipresent God. But He is present with man through the temple. The church is the home God has prepared for us. Do we desire to come to God’s house to worship Him and experience His works? Are we willing to share with the spiritual authorities or cell group leaders of the church when we encounter trials?
Second, God is not dead. Even though the earthly temple may one day be destroyed, God’s throne is established in heaven and will never be shaken. No person, thing, or object can stand in the way of His plan. Therefore, we can come to God without reservation.
Finally, God sees everything. God’s wise eye is always watching the world. So we do not have to worry about God standing by. He not only understands, being considerate, and cares for our difficulties, but He is also a just and righteous God. He sees all your grievances. Therefore, if we trust in Him with all our hearts, we will experience the salvation of His mighty hand.
(2) God tests and elevates the righteous (v5-7)
God’s testing is the way for every child of God to be purified and victorious. No one can wear a graduation hat without an examination, no one can succeed without experiencing failure, and no one can have a glorious experience of victory without the test of spiritual warfare. Every difficulty in life is a necessary path to growth and maturity. V7 Seeing His face: That is, experiencing the presence and favour of God. God expects us to be with Him at all times, and to receive the blessings and favour He has prepared for us before the foundation of the world.
Conclusion:
In every challenge and tribulation of life, let us say: I am trusting in the Lord! and firmly believe that God knows our afflictions and has the best plan for us. In every battle, let us choose to draw closer to God and trust in Him. Let God lead us to face each battle with courage, and know that victory is of the Lord. In this way, we must greatly experience God’s presence and favour, and become witnesses of God’s glory.

Psalm 10 How much longer?
GK611 Morning Devotion

The Morning Devotion Speakers: Co-worker Asher Chang
Introduction: The world is not fair, but thee is always a way out
A television programme shows how life is not fair, but that those who take precedence at the beginning do not always get there fastest.
The psalmist speaks here of the ungodliness and injustice of many bad people, and he sees how the bad people are always happy and prosperous… The result makes him feel unjust for the distressed and oppressed people, and he cannot help but pour out his heart’s grief to God.
1.The urgent cry (V1-11)
(1) Don’t stop praying (V1-2)
When we need God most, God seems to be hidden at times. He makes people quite frankly doubt and keep asking why. But he does not cease his prayers, but still makes a mere willingness to ask God to come quickly to help.
Why, O God, do you stand at a distance? Do we ever say the same thing? When we are lonely, helpless and depressed, we must still continue to pray and tell God our troubles.
(2) God is always watching (V3-11)
We may also wonder why others who are unbeliever and do not know God seem to be more successful, richer or more prosperous than we are. Just as the psalmist seems to surprised why God makes these God- despising people rich.
Wealth is only temporary and it is not a sign that God is pleased with people. The Bible also speaks of the many who have turned away from God in pride because of money and have ended up in the penal code. Let us stand firm, for God is always watching.
2. Asking God to rise up and rise above the suffering (V12-15)
To keep calling on God to intervene in our problems in times of trouble. The psalmist keeps crying out to God not to forget him, for he is convinced that God must step in to help the innocent.
The evil one is like the predator, who wants nothing more than to steal, kill and destroy everything we have. In spite of this, we must remember that we have a Lord who has come to give us life and to give it more abundantly. Ask God to rise up, for He is higher than our enemies, and to hold on to Him in the midst of desperate times.
3. Waiting patiently for the everlasting King (V16-18)
The Psalm ends with praise for God’s authority, because of the belief that God has seen. He hears our prayers, and His eyes see the whole earth. He is the God who does justice for us.
We may be chased by many things right now and it is very hard. But God is real, He sees, He hears and He never changed. All we can do is to trust, be patient, have faith and wait for God to step in. These things will always pass away, but God alone endures forever. For He is the God who was and is and who is to come.
Conclusion: No matter how long you wait, don’t forget to let the King who is forever and ever intervene.
The psalmist starts out for why God is where He is, to pursuing God, to proclaiming His faithfulness, to praising Him. In each of these things, he does not forget God. In good times and in bad times, though you don’t know how long you will have to wait, know that God is always there.

Psalm 9 I will delight in the Lord
GK611 Morning Devotion
23/05/2023
The Morning Devotion Speakers: Ps. Daniel
Introduction
Do we believe that God’s salvation is inevitable? Do we rejoice in God’s salvation?
V2 I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High!
1. Praise, spread and sing praises to God (V1-2)
We have seen David’s four attitudes towards God: give thanks to God with all his heart, spread the deeds of God, rejoice in God, and sing praises in God’s name. When he has the right attitude toward God, he will rely on God and praise God in everything. Whether in peace or hardship, prosperity or adversity, he can thank God. Therefore, God took care of his problems!
We should not complain, grumble, gossip, or speak negatively all day. We should talk about God’s wonderful deeds each day, speak words that build people up, rejoice in God’s salvation daily, and sing praises of God’s glorious name every day.
2. Because God judges righteously (V3-8)
David was still talking about God’s deeds: God will avenge him, and God will judge according to justice. David knew very well that God would judge the world with justice and all peoples with righteousness, so he let God deal with all the enemies and villains he wanted to deal with because he had already experienced God’s justice for him!
If we really believe that God is the avenger, we should not revenge ourselves; if we really have love, we should not hate the enemy, and that is victory!
3. Rejoice in God’s salvation (V9-14)
(1) God never forsakes and never forgets (V9-12)
This is about God’s deeds. He will be a support for the oppressed. When we stand on God’s platform, we will be on top, and the enemy will be on the bottom! Hence, we must rely on God! For God never forsakes nor forgets those who seek Him.
God’s promise does not mean that we will never experience pain and failure, but that God will always be with us in the mountains and low valleys!
(2) God rescues people from the gates of death (V13-14)
David asked God to save and have mercy on him, and he would be going to tell God’s virtues! Proclaim among all the people what God has done!
We experience healing in sickness, comfort in adversity, and God’s help in difficulty… We thank God and tell God’s virtues, and everyone will know that God is the God who saves us!
4. Different endings for good and evil (V15-20)
The more David praised and related God, the stronger his faith became, so he began to declare that the righteous God will let the wicked ‘sunk into the pit he has dug’ and be ‘, their own foot is caught in the net.’; while ‘For the needy shall not always be forgotten, The expectation of the poor shall not perish forever.’, good shall triumph over evil!
We should not follow the wicked under pressure or in trouble but know the inevitable end of the wicked! As long as we keep God’s grace in mind, we will be able to give thanks and praise regardless of the circumstances!
Conclusion:
When we are oppressed, don’t go astray, and don’t run away, because God will not forget us, and the present suffering is temporary.
Our help comes from God, and there is no better protection. So, no matter what, don’t be afraid, take joy in God, and continue to praise God and spread His righteousness!

Psalm 8 What a beautiful name
GK611 Morning Devotion

The Morning Devotion Speakers: Rev. David Tan
Introduction: How Great You Are
I. The name of the Lord manifests His glory (8:1-2)
8:1 O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens!
(1) The name of the Lord is great and wonderful (V1)
There is a wonderful discovery in the study of human DNA. It turns out that the bridges connecting the gene molecules only appear at the 10th, 5th, 6th, and 5th nodes. And this group of numbers happens to be the Hebrew letters יהוה (pronounced from right to left Yud Heh Vav Heh) Yud=10、Heh=5、Vav=6、Heh=5
It turns out that human genes all record the Creator’s name YHVH. God’s name is Jehovah. God’s name is not only God but also includes all of God’s attributes. Jehovah is the ever-existing One. God’s name is even revealed in the genes of every human being He has created.
(2)The glory of the Lord manifests in heaven (V1)
The original text of [heaven] is shamayim, which refers to the infinite space above the ground; this heaven refers to the sky, the space of the universe, and moreover, the heaven where God lives. The distance of heaven is from the visibility of the naked eye to the invisibility of the naked eye. Only when science is more developed, it becomes more wonderful and vaster. Then through the eyes of the spirit, the spiritual and real heaven is seen.
Jehovah God is our Heavenly Father, He is the Creator and Designer of the heavens, and the whole earth shall manifest His glory. He is our Heavenly Father, the Lord of our lives. How excellent is His name in all the earth? And we are His children, His beloved, and His representatives! How excellent is His name, how can we not be honoured? We are the reflection of the Lord.
(3) God strengthens the weak (V2)
8:2 Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.
Babies are ignorant and nursing infants are weak, which means that when we face the enemy’s attack and challenge, we must be simple like babies. We should not use human intelligence, in the end, God’s power will be displayed, making the withstander speechless.
As Paul described himself as a fool (1 Corinthians 1), he knew nothing but the Lord and the cross. In fact, Paul was a man of great knowledge, but when he compared the Lord with the gospel of salvation, he only grasped the simple faith.
2. The Creator God and the Blessed Man (8:3-8)
(1) An orderly planet (V3)
8:3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
Romans 1:19 “Because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.
It is not difficult to find the marks of God just by looking at the day and night stars in the universe. A super-intelligent and precise design and decoration, just talking about the distance between the earth and the planets, the revolution and rotation, and the speed are already a wonderful miracle.
(2) God cares for man (V4)
8:4 What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?
Compared with the vastness of the universe, although human beings are small, they are cared for by the greatest God. How amazing grace is this, isn’t it?
(3) What a glorious reward (V5)
8:5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels (or “God”), and You have crowned him with glory and honor.
Among all created things, the identity of man is second only to God, because man is created in the image of God. Man not only has the grace to be saved by God but also enjoys the crown of glory and honour.
(4) An unimaginable Management (V6-8)
8:6-8 You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen— Even the beasts of the field, The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas.
Created man is entrusted to manage all things, which shows that God has put the instinct of leadership in us. What we have to develop is to stimulate and apply the latent gifts and talents in us.
Conclusion: What a beautiful name—how beautiful is your name? (8:9)
8:9 O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth!
God’s name is so excellent, we are God’s spokespersons, and we also want to show God’s beauty. Our identities are [God’s children], [God’s people], [Christians] (little Christ), [Christ’s bride] … We are closely linked with God and are “a part of God”, even saying that the Spirit of God dwells in us. Wow! How excellent is this name!

Hosea 14 Return orphan, God alone is the way Introduction: God’s people are to choose to be wise and prudent people, to return, to know God and to walk in His ways, so that they may live in His blessings and grace. 1. Return to the Lord (v1-3) The prophets showed Israel the only way out, which was to return to the Lord. However, their return also meant that they needed to repent and turn away from the sins they had committed. The love of God never changes. When we are willing to repent and turn to God, He will restore us. 2. Receiving God’s Promises (v4-8) God takes the initiative to exercise grace, to “turn away” His anger and promises to heal Israel spiritually, to love her unconditionally, to make her completely rich and to protect her. And in the face of God’s unfailing love, the orphans who had forsaken Him finally came to their senses and broke off their relationship with idols. As a result, they will once again receive back the fullness of the promises that God will give them. 3. Choosing to walk in the truth (v9) Who is the wise and prudent man? This is the challenge of every man of God. We walk or stumble, obey or disobey, depending on our choice. Therefore, we need to be wise and we need to understand that the only way to be blessed is to follow the LORD. Conclusion: Be a wise man We ask God to help us to be wise and to choose the blessed path, the path that will keep us from straying from the truth all the days of our lives.

Hosea 13 I am Yours Introduction: Everything happens for a reason, and everything that happens for a reason has an effect When you do something, when you choose to do something, you should expect the result of doing it, and you should take the responsibility of doing it. It is like planting a tree, how to sow it, how to fertilise it, and when the tree grows, you can see how the tree will look like. And what that tree looks like depends on how we sow it, which is what we call “reaping what we sow”. Israel had been redeemed by God and belonged to Him, but now they forgot all about His salvation and turned away from Him, even turning back to Egypt. 1. Betrayed You and became chaff (v1-3) Once upon a time the tribe of Ephraim had been promised to become many tribes, and God had promised that they would become the largest and most influential tribe. But when they began to serve Baal, they were cut off from God and became spiritually dead and dry. It did not matter how blessed and glorious they had once been. As soon as one worships idols and betrays God, the end is to be changed from high places to nothing, like clouds, manna, chaff and smoke, which cannot last long; to leave God is like leaving His protecting hand, and one goes quickly to perdition. As we move on, let us take heed in all things, not to preserve our position, but to ensure that our relationship with God remains close. 2. Forgetting You and losing Your protection (v4-8) The Lord was the God of Israel’s salvation, but one day He turned into a mother bear who lost her cubs and wanted to kill them. God is the Lion of Judah, who came to deliver, but has now become the destroyer of the people. We all need to be aware of the fact that when God gives man enough and a high position, man becomes proud and forgets God and leaves Him, and in the end the Saviour becomes a beast, going from being protected to being chased. Complacency is as destructive today as it was in Hosea’s day. Are we conscious of the constant need for God’s presence and help? We all need to learn to lean on God in good times as well as in bad. If we are now well on our way, do not forget who gave you this prosperity; do not rely on your own talents, but in all things remember the God who gave them to us! 3. Without You, the nation was lost (V9-13) The Israelites preferred to seek other gods, to seek the help of the Gentiles, to use many tricks, diplomacy, and even to sacrifice their faith and moral principles, but always failed to seek God. The fact that they fell into such distress was the result of their departure from God. God had sent prophets to warn them many times, and had spoken to them many times, but they refused to listen: they thought they knew, but did not know that they did not know. Without God, there is less wisdom, and it is easier to make the wrong decisions, and the country goes into ruin more quickly. Today, we need to think about our relationship with God. Have we often made the wrong decisions recently? If so, we need to seek God immediately and not become unaware of the circumstances in which we were unaware of what situation that we were in. 4. Losing you and eventually becoming dry (V14-16) It is a process from fruitfulness to dryness; like a fish that leaves the water it does not necessarily die immediately, but it dies slowly. When we go from fullness to commonness, we must begin to watch out, for then is to become dry. When we find that the wind of the Spirit has changed, we must rise up and seek God. Conclusion: I am yours, I am no one else’s! Let us give our hearts to God alone, for we have no other God than you. Ask God to help us to see our relationship with Him as greater than the wealth of our achievements. We worship the LORD God as our only Lord, because we belong to Him.
