Jeremiah 21 The choice between life and death
GK611 Morning Devotion

The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps. Daniel

1. God is not an idol that can be manipulated by others (V1-7)

When King Zedekiah was besieged by Babylon in Jerusalem, he sent people to Jeremiah to consult God, hoping that God would perform another miracle through Jeremiah and help them defeat the enemy as before. God’s response was extremely severe: God would no longer save them as He had done in the past but would hand them over to the hands of the Babylonians, and Jerusalem would be captured; because Zedekiah and the people did not truly repent, and they ignored God. Their warnings and demands forget that God is not an idol to be manipulated by others.

In our lives, are we like the Israelites, who only think of God when we encounter trouble? Have we ever said to God: God, help me get through this difficulty, and I will follow you well in the future. Once the problem is over, go on with your life and forget about God? True faith is not a temporary help station, but a daily walk with God!

2. Heading towards life or towards death (V8-10)

God made it clear to the people through Jeremiah: Now there were two roads before them, one was the way to life, and the other was the way to death. Those who choose to surrender to the Babylonians will survive, while those who choose to stay in the city and resist will surely meet death. This is not because God does not love them, but because of the consequences of their continuing disobedience. God still showed His mercy in judgment and gave them a chance to survive.

We often think our choices are better than God’s arrangements, but God is far wiser than we are. He knows which way leads to life, even if it seems counterintuitive. Are we willing to trust God’s wisdom, obey His guidance, and choose the path that, although difficult, ultimately brings life?

3. God is the real refuge (V11-14)

God calls upon the royal house of Judah to exercise justice and protect those who are oppressed, otherwise His consuming fire will consume them. Even within the walls of Jerusalem, there was no escape from God’s judgment. God’s judgment is not only against the threats of external enemies, but also against their internal corruption and injustice.

Do we too often place our sense of security in the wrong place? Jobs, money, fame, and even relationships may make us feel secure temporarily, but God alone is our true refuge. We must build the foundation of our lives on Him before we can face the storm.

Conclusion: The choice between life and death depends on obeying God!

Today, each of us stands at a cross-junction in the road of ‘choice between life and death’; are you willing to choose to obey God, confess your sins and repent? No matter what difficulties we face now, as long as we walk on God’s path, He will always prepare a ‘way of life’ for us!

Book of Jeremiah 20

Jeremiah Chapter 20: “All Things is True Align to God”
GK611 Morning Devotion
20/09/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: IP Asher

Introduction: Are you a Superman?

1. God’s servants will also face persecution

(1) Under attack, but do not bow our knees (V1-2)

Jeremiah preached the word of God in the temple, but he was persecuted by the priest Pashhur and was even beaten and imprisoned. His persecution came not only from external hostile forces, but also from the priests who were supposed to serve God. Pashhur turned away from his duty and bound Jeremiah in chains, keeping him in bondage for a whole day.

Today we will also encounter attacks from the devil, trying to make us bow down and stop standing up to serve God. But in moments like these, God’s power sets us free. Can we, like Jeremiah, choose not to bow our knees, but to turn our attention to God and trust in His salvation?

(2) Respond bravely in the face of persecution (V3-6)

Although Jeremiah suffered greatly, he still bravely declared God’s judgment against Pashehur and changed his name to “Terror on every side.” Pashhur was originally a symbol of “freedom and honour”, but due to its disloyalty, it became a symbol of fear. When the world presses us, do we compromise, or do we, like Jeremiah, stand for God’s truth? Responding bravely and sticking to our faith is a sign of alignment with God. God is in control, and we can stand firm by faith.

2. Spiritual struggle, speak bravely but never give up

1) Although ridiculed, still loyal to God’s commission (V7-10)

Jeremiah felt that he had been deceived by God because his faithful preaching was met with great pain and ridicule. Even so, the vision and fire in his heart prevented him from being silent and he still preached the word of God. Serving God often comes with a price, and when hurt, our first reaction may be to give up. But Jeremiah chose to express his anger to God rather than turn away from his trust. This is a deep relationship between him and God, an expression of trust. We can also speak to God fearlessly in pain, and He will listen to our hearts.

(2) Although abandoned, believe in God’s presence (V11-13)

This passage mentions that those who persecuted Jeremiah were his compatriots, family, and friends. Facing their abandonment was the biggest blow to Jeremiah’s soul. However, even in the midst of heavy rejection and loneliness, he still believed that God was with him and that God would fight for him. Today we may feel isolated and helpless in the face of ridicule or rejection from the world. But as long as we are loyal to God’s truth, God will be on our side and become our strong shield. His presence is the foundation of our faith.

(3) Although it is painful, complain to God without despair (V14-18)

At the bottom of his life, Jeremiah poured out his heart to God and even began to curse his own birth. This seemed to be a sign of despair. But the Bible records all of this to show that God allows us to express our truest emotions to Him. Even if circumstances do not change immediately, we do not have to suppress ourselves and can tell God everything we want. Relying on and talking to God is our salvation in the low points.

Conclusion: Don’t be a superman, be a real person

God does not require us to be strong and flawless forever. He wants us to be honest with Him, not pretend to be perfect. True freedom lies in surrendering everything to God and relying on His strength to walk through every moment of weakness. Every weakness is an opportunity for God to show his power.

Jeremiah 19: Don’t Become a Shattered Pot
GK611 Morning Devotion
19/09/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Deborah

1.Cherishing God’s Warnings (V1-5)

God instructed Jeremiah to buy a potter’s jar and lead the elders and priests to the gate of the Valley of Hinnom to proclaim God’s judgment. This served as a warning of destruction for committing acts detested by God.

When the Holy Spirit reminds us to repent, let us cherish every warning from God.

2.Choosing to Avoid Judgment (V6-9)

When God is absent from our plans, or our schemes are not aligned with His will, He will cause them to fail. The scripture shows that where the Israelites abandoned God, He would judge them in those very places.

When we place other people, things, or matters above God, He often allows us to experience failure in those areas. Therefore, we must stay vigilant, quickly return to God, and allow Him to uproot, tear down, and destroy the idols in our lives. Let us fear God and avoid the judgment of being shattered like a pot.

3. Becoming a Valuable Vessel (V10-15)

a. Away from Lowliness and Avoiding Being a Shattered Pot (V10-11a)

God’s original intent was for Israel to be a valuable vessel, a light to the Gentiles, and a witness for Him. However, they were stiff-necked and refused to repent. God commanded Jeremiah to smash the pot in front of the people and the elders, symbolizing how God would smash this rebellious nation. Even Jerusalem would become desolate, beyond repair or becoming whole again. The only fate of a worthless vessel is to be smashed.

Brothers and sisters, we are all chosen by God to be His valuable vessels. May God help us break away from lowliness. During these 15 days of fasting and prayer before the Jewish New Year, let us prepare ourselves to be valuable vessels in God’s hands through Bible study, meditating on His word, and confessing our sins.

b.Repent Quickly to Avoid Eternal Death (V11b-13)

In today’s 15 verses, “Topheth” is mentioned five times. In certain prophecies and apocalyptic literature, Topheth symbolizes, in the Last Judgement, the eternal destination of destruction and punishment for sinful and rebellious people. It is also known as the lake of fire in hell.

Christians do not have to face the lake of fire as the final destination. So, when someone points out areas in our life that need correction, even if it’s harsh, don’t resent them. When the pulpit shares messages about judgment and repentance, don’t block your ears. When you realize there’s something wrong in your life, repent and turn back quickly. Always be prepared to meet the Lord without fear.

c. Obeying God to Become a Valuable Vessel (V14-15)

The scripture mentions again that the people will be smashed like a pot because of their stubborn refusal to listen to God’s words. Let us take this as a lesson. Beyond living a repentant life, we must also obey God’s will, follow His guidance, and become valuable vessels used by Him.

Conclusion:

•Live a life of repentance and obedience to God, and avoid becoming a smashed pot.
•Strive to pursue a closer relationship with God, be renewed to become His valuable vessel, and live a life that glorifies Him.

Jeremiah 18: The Call to Reshape Life
GK611 Morning Devotion
18/09/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps. Stella

Introduction:

God uses the analogy of a potter and clay to illustrate that He is the potter, and we are the clay in His hands. Even if we become broken like clay at some point in life, God still has the power to reshape us.

1.Acknowledging God’s Sovereignty (v1-6)

Through the analogy of the potter working with clay, God demonstrates His sovereignty over our lives. When a vessel is broken, the potter is willing to reshape it, symbolizing God’s willingness to reshape our lives if we repent. Are we humble enough to accept God’s shaping, acknowledge His sovereignty, and submit to His will?

2.Seizing the Opportunity to Turn Back (v7-10)

Rebellion leads to destruction, while repentance brings new hope. In this passage, God reveals that He is not eager to execute judgment, but instead offers everyone a chance to repent. When we walk in the wrong path, we must be willing to heed God’s warning and repent.

3.Resolving to Leave Sin Behind (v11-12)

God warns that the consequence of stubbornness is self-destruction. However, the people of Israel stubbornly rejected God’s call and continued in their evil ways. Their stubbornness eventually distanced them from God’s grace and blessings. Therefore, we must resolve to leave sin behind.

4.Rejecting Stubborn Rebellion (v13-17)

The people of Israel’s great betrayal led to God’s judgment. Here, God warns Israel that their stubborn rebellion will result in them being scattered like the wind. God will no longer turn His loving face toward them but will instead turn His back, signifying His anger at their rebellion. We must constantly reflect on whether we have areas of stubborn rebellion against God in our lives.

5.Rejecting Blind Ignorance (v18-23)

The people of Israel not only ignored God’s warnings but also plotted to harm Jeremiah. This shows, at its peak, how horrible can sin become. Ultimately, Jeremiah calls for God’s justice to prevail. Therefore, we must avoid falling into the trap of self-deception and destruction.

Conclusion:

God is the potter, and He has sovereignty over our lives. However, He is also full of mercy and is willing to reshape those who repent. Therefore, we should humbly submit to God’s shaping, becoming vessels fit for His use, and walk toward the glorious destiny He has prepared for us.

Book of Jeremiah 17

Jeremiah 17 Futures of Two Contrasting Life
GK611 Morning Devotion

The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps. Daniel

1. A clear portrayal of two lives (V1-18)

(1) Two kinds of reliance (V1-8)

Here God vividly describes the depth of the people’s sin, as if engraved with metal stylus and diamond on their hearts. This shows that the sins of the people are deeply ingrained and have become their nature! God told the people two parables through Jeremiah: He who relies on man is like a plant in the desert, which withers due to lack of water. Woe to that person. Blessed is the person who relies on God, like a plant planted by the river. A tree is not afraid of drought, and its life continues to bear fruit.

How often do we rely on our connections, money, or abilities in life? God reminds us that He alone can provide an everlasting supply. Only relying on God can enable us to thrive in drought.

(2) Two mentality (V9-11)

The human heart is deceitful, and it is difficult to examine one’s self because of the inherent sinfulness; but a heart that accepts God’s observation can enable people to be healed from deceitfulness under God’s illumination.

We often think we are upright, but God can thoroughly understand our inner motives. We need His observation and guidance in order to distinguish right from wrong and not deviate from the right path and go astray.

(3) Two options (V12-16)

Those who choose to abandon God will eventually fall into shame in the storms of life; while those who choose to call on God will find healing and salvation before the throne of God.

When facing challenges and trials, we must choose to quickly turn to God. Only by choosing to call on God can our hearts be calm and stable, and we will never be shamed.

(4) Two endings (V17-18)

Those who rely on God will experience God’s protection and no fear in the days of calamity and will eventually move toward a future of abundance and glory in God’s grace; those who reject God will eventually suffer God’s destruction of them, leading to the end of destruction!

The final outcome depends on our choices today: those who rely on God will ultimately enjoy abundant life and a glorious future; those who rely on humans will ultimately end in humiliation and destruction. May we always choose to rely on God and receive eternal promises.

2. Definite trust in God – observe the Sabbath (V19-27)

(1) Reaffirm the Sabbath commandment (V19-22)

God commanded the people to keep the Sabbath holy and stop all work and transactions on the Sabbath. Keeping the Sabbath and not working is a definite action and expression of trusting God’s provision.

(2) The blessing of observing the Sabbath (V24-26)

Keeping the Sabbath is not just a command, it has a blessing behind it. Obey God’s arrangements, and He will bless the whole earth and bring abundant peace and prosperity.

(3) Disasters for breaking the Sabbath (V27)

If the people disobey the Sabbath, it means they refuse to rely on God. God’s judgment will come, and the entire city will be destroyed.

Observing the Sabbath is not only observing a law, nor is it simply a day of rest, but it is an expression of complete trust in God and reminds oneself in the midst of busyness that the real source is in God! May we not only keep the Sabbath in action, but also truly rely on God in our hearts and believe that He is the God in charge of everything!

Conclusion:

Today, we have witnessed that the outcome of life is completely different between those who rely on man and those who rely on God. Let us not lose God’s blessings by pursuing the things of the world. Put God first in every decision and action in our lives. If you choose to trust God in your life, you will receive God’s eternal grace and promises!

28|Proverb 28

16/09/2024
