Numbers 20 Take off the old self and enter into the promise
GK611 Morning Devotion
17 April 2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Stella Ling

Introduction:

We need to learn from our past failures and be determined to change so that we do not miss the promises God has given us.

1. Standing up from the fall (v1)

The people of Israel first fell at Kadesh. Thirty-eight years later, God brought them back to the place where they had fallen.
Let them recall “remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, ” (Rev. 2:5), and set out again from Kadesh on the path into the promise.

2. Don’t let emotions take control (v2-13)

Israel’s grumbling against God was an emotional outburst, not because they were justified. However, God responded to them with patience and compassion so that the new generation would ecognize Him as a God who is responsible to the end.
However, Moses rebuked the people with anger and used his staff to make the rock run with water instead of commanding the rock to come out of the water as God had commanded. This action was called ‘unbelief’ by God and resulted in him not being able to enter the Promised Land.

3. Not acting on flesh (v14-21)

Although the king of Edom refused to allow Israel to pass through his territory, the people did not act on flesh, but obeyed God’s command not to fight with Edom and to turn and pass by way (Deut. 2:8). Though they had to travel further, they trusted in God’s guidance.

4. Inheritance is to be continued (v22-29)

God took away Israel’s spiritual leader, Aaron, before they entered Canaan, marking a generational shift with the change of the high priesthood. And the new generation needed to take on the mission of continuing into the Promised Land.

Conclusion:

We need to deal with our old, ungodly lives, so that we can faithfully follow God and trust His leading. In this way, we will surely receive the blessings that God has promised us.

Book of Numbers 19

Numbers 19 The Laws of Purification Ordained by God
GK611 Morning Devotion
16 April 2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Daniel Kew

Introduction:

Numbers 19 talks about a law ordained by God to use pure red heifer ashes as water of purification to cleanse those who have been contaminated by dead bodies and says that this will be an eternal law. Because God is a holy God, His people can no longer be close to Him if they live in the filth of death. Therefore, God ordained laws of purification other than sin offerings to make the people of Israel holy.

1. ‘Water of purification’ to cleanse the people (V1-10)

Here is recorded the laws regarding the burning of a red heifer. Pure red heifers without blemishes that have not been yoked are to be used. The ashes after burning are mixed with water to remove impurities, which is used to cleanse the people of Israel and eliminate their sins. God made a way for the Israelites to rely on these laws to be cleansed with water that removes impurities.

God demonstrates His love for sinners through this law of purification. God’s will is for us to be cleansed from all sin and to live a sanctified life in this evil age filled with death and filth. This kind of holy life can only be lived by relying on the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit.

2. Those who do not clean themselves will be cut off (V11-22)

This passage talks about the use of purification water, which is mainly used to cleanse people and things that are unclean due to contact with dead bodies. Through this method, God not only showed the Israelites that touching dead bodies was unclean but also showed them God’s grace and provided them with a suitable solution to remove the uncleanness. God also warned the people here that those who defile themselves without purifying themselves will be cut off (V13, 20).

What God wants to cut off is not those who sin, but those who sin without repentance. No matter how big a sin a person commits, he can be forgiven as long as he repents according to the rules prepared by God; but even if he commits a small sin, if he does not want to repent, such a person will receive severe punishment from God and will eventually be punished. Be cut off!

Conclusion:

The precious blood of the Lord Jesus is more powerful than the ashes of the red heifer. It can cleanse our whole being and restore our relationship with God. Although we have received salvation today, we may be contaminated by worldly uncleanness at any time; therefore, we must often come before God to confess and repent and ask God to cleanse the filth in our lives, and determine to live a holy life. A life that glorifies God!

Book of Numbers 18

Numbers Chapter 18: God is our inheritance
GK611 Morning Devotion
12/4/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: IP Asher Chang

Introduction: The serving of the Priests and Levites was a serving of life and death.

1. The priest’s reward comes from God

Rewarded service, the service itself is the reward

(1) Position of Priest (V1-7)

The priests (Aaron’s sons) and the Levites shared the responsibility for the management of the sanctuary, but they had a heavy responsibility. Once the Israelites transgressed the regulations and violated God’s holy place, all the priests and Levites must bear the sin together. God again emphatically told Aaron and his sons what to do, and the others were united to help Aaron, and they were given to Aaron by God. Not all the Levites who served could do it, and not all the patriarchs could do it. The priesthood and serving are gifts from God.

Today, whether God chooses us to be coworkers and pastors in the church, work in the workplace, study in school, or maybe a stay-at-home mother, no matter where we are, God has His command, and we have responsibilities there. We can all serve God together.

(2) Providence for Priest (V8-20)

God gave His heave offering to the Levites as a reward, so what the Levites received was the best and holy, and what the priests received was the best and most holy. This is what God gave to the priests and Levites, their wages, and rewards. All holy offerings are given by God as an everlasting portion to the priest and his children. This is an everlasting covenant of salt before the Lord for the priest and his descendants. And God gave himself to the priests as his portion, his inheritance.

If we serve the house of God, God will take care of our home. This is a wonderful promise that God gives to those who serve Him.

2. Levites’ inheritance and rewards (V21-32)

God’s heave offering was given both to the priests and especially to the Levites. The Levites were not allowed to own property, which was a blessed principle. Because God sanctified the Levites and specially selected them. Although they have no earthly inheritance, God is their inheritance. God gave them everything. In other words, as long as they are around, everything belongs to them.

Serving with faith means believing that God will provide for us and take care of us throughout our lives. God allows us to follow Him wholeheartedly and serve Him wholeheartedly without worrying about all supplies because God will provide for us.

Conclusion: Respond to the serving of God’s kingdom and serve God wholeheartedly.

Numbers 17 God’s Election, Life’s ministries
GK611 Morning Devotion
11 April 2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Deborah Tan

1. God Himself Seals His Election (V1-7)

God will personally confirm us as His chosen ones. We too should do our part to live out our lives as He chose us.

(1) Acknowledging to be faithful to the entrustment (V1-5a)

God told the 12 tribes and Aaron to write their names on their staffs, not only to recognise their staffs, but also to identify themselves as God’s chosen leaders of the staff and not someone else’s staff. Each man had a commission and a duty from God, so he was to be faithful to his entrustment.

As a leader, even if someone challenges you with dissatisfaction, you only need to clearly recognise God’s choice for you, and faithfully fulfill God’s entrustment. There is no need to use authority to prove to yourself that you are God’s chosen one. Just as He did for Aaron, God will personally confirm you are His chosen ones.

(2) Chosen by God to close the gap (V5b)

When God was about to cause the descendants of Moses to replace the people of Israel, Moses did not gloat over it. On the contrary, he stood in the breach and begged God’s forgiveness with all his might. When Korah’s party and the whole congregation gathered to attack Moses and Aaron, their response was to immediately fall on their faces and intercede. When the plague struck, Aaron, regardless of his own safety, stood among the living and the dead to atone for the sins of the disobedient people and closed the gap.

As God’s chosen ones, not only should we not prioritise our own interests, but rather, we should be the ones who close the gap. This is also the example Jesus left for us when he hung on the cross: “Father! Forgive them, for they know not what they do”.

(3) Laying down his sovereignty before God (V6-7)

v7 And Moses placed the rods before the Lord in the tabernacle of witness. The staff represents authority. The one who is chosen by God or as the one who is in authority is to come to God as often as the staff was deposited before the Lord, to receive life, strength and more love so to continue loving God and men.

2. Bringing forth resurrected life minstries (V8-9)

(1) Ministry with resurrection power (V8-9)

The staffs were made from branches of trees that had dried up and died. Without roots or leaves, it was totally impossible for any life to grow. But Aaron’s staff turned out to be resurrected from the dead, and not only did it grow leaves, sprout, blossom, and yielded ripe almonds

Through the miracle of the resurrection from the dead, God sealed the election of Aaron, the high priest of the Old Testament. As people chosen by God, all our talents, wisdom, and old creation must first experience the death of the cross in order to bring forth the miraculous ministry of the resurrection power of the Lord Jesus. Bringing healing to the sick, restoring relationships that were hopeless, restoring and finding hope of life again from despair 。。。。

(2) Seize the sign of God’s grace (V10-11)

God’s command to Moses to place the rod of Aaron in front of the ark of the law was not only a sign to the sons of betrayal, but it was also a sign of God’s infinite grace. v10b God does not want people to die in ignorance, so Aaron’s rod served as a warning to the generations to come.

Sin leads to not only physical but more importantly spiritual death. The fact that God has allowed us to read this scripture today is the time for Him to reveal the sign of grace. Let us seize this opportunity to examine our lives, confess our sins, repent, and align ourselves with God.

(3) Choose life, be vigilant and repent (V12-13)

The people of Israel were not fearful of them being rebellious and disobedient to authority and had offended God’s sovereignty. What they feared was their own death as they approached the tabernacle of God. So it was not life that they valued, nor did they repent in watchfulness.

Conclusion: Serving God with Your Life

– We are all God’s chosen ones.
– Honour every authority that God has established over our lives.
– Take hold of the sign of God’s grace and walk in the path of resurrection that Jesus Christ has paved for us.
– Choose life, live a good testimony of life, and serve God with your life.

Numbers 16 The Correct Mindset in Serving God

The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Daniel Kew

Introduction:

This chapter allows us to see 4 different mindset of serving God. Moses and Aaron were examples of the right mindset; the Korahite rebels were examples of the wrong mindset.

1. Be loyal and content with God’s entrustment

(1) Wrong service that satisfies self-desires (V2-3)

The excuse for the Korahites to rebel against Moses and Aaron was: The entire congregation is holy, so why do you exalt yourselves above the congregation of the Lord?

The real reason for the rebellion of the Korahites was that they were not satisfied with the positions appointed by God and wanted to satisfy their selfish desires and strive for more power.

We must always be alert to our motives in serving the Lord! No matter what God calls us to do, we should strive to do our best; but be careful not to win more rights for ourselves!

(2) Be loyal to the correct way of serving God (V8-11)

Moses’ position as the high priest of Aaron, chosen by God, was attacked. When the Israelites were dissatisfied with God’s leadership, he was loyal to the leadership position entrusted by God, insisted on standing with God, and resolutely defended Aaron.

Moses’ persistence in faithfulness to God’s entrustment is an example for us to follow.

2. Fear God above all things

(1) If you don’t fear God, you will make mistakes again and again (V4-7, 18-19, 30-35, 41)

The problem with the Korahites was that they did not love and fear God and believed that they should become priests like Aaron. As a result, they did not repent, made mistakes again and again, and were destroyed by God!

The next day the whole congregation still didn’t come to realisation and accuse Moses and Aaron of killing those rebels!

People who do not fear God have a blinded and hardened heart. Even if they see miracles, instead of turning around and fearing God, they accuse God and God’s servants of being cruel.

(2) Only by fearing God can we have the right service (V4, 45)

When Moses and Aaron faced rebellion, their immediate reaction was to fall on their faces and leave it to God to deal with them. Because they fear God and know that all authority comes from God.

In the process of serving God, fear God is utmost important. If we fear and seek approval of people more than we fear God, our service will only cater to people; when we fear God more than anything else, then we can serve God without fear.

3. Obey the leaders appointed by God

(1) Disobedient serving provokes God’s anger (V12-14)

The rebels always invert right and wrong and blame the leader Moses for the problems and consequences they caused. As a result, God was angered and almost all the people were destroyed.

The root cause of the rebels was their failure to obey the leaders appointed by God, which resulted in their inability to follow God correctly thus provoking God’s wrath.

(2) Obedient service is acceptable to God (V46-48)

Moses instructed Aaron to go and make atonement for the people. Aaron obeyed Moses’ instructions and quickly ran to the assembly to do it. God’s anger was appeased and the plague was stopped.

When we submit to the leaders appointed by God, our service is a service that obeys God and is acceptable to God.

4. The love for people is indispensable

(1) Rebels are serving themselves

The rebels hold high the banner of ‘everyone is equal’, but in fact, they only care about themselves. Their real motivation is for their rights and interests and to serve themselves.

(2) Proper service that cares for the people (V22)

Moses was a godly leader. Although he faced repeated attacks from the people, he and Aaron still asked God to forgive them because they cared for God’s people.

Serving God means serving others, so loving others is indispensable!

Conclusion:

When we serve for our own purposes, this is an incorrect way of serving God; when we serve with the heart of Christ, this is then the correct way of serving God!
