35|Psalm 35

14/12/2024

Book of Matthew 13

Matthew 13 Receive Parables of the Kingdom of Heaven
GK611 Morning Devotion
17/12/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Rev David Tan

Introduction: Sit down and “talk about heaven and earth”…

1. What kind of earthly heart are you (13:3-9, 18-23)

1) The parable of the four sowers (V3-9)

First, the seeds sown on the roadside were eaten by birds; second, the seeds sown in shallow soil withered quickly because they had no roots; and third, the seeds sown among thorns were choked and unable to grow. Only the fourth kind of seed sown in good soil produced abundant fruit. The meaning of this parable is very obvious, and the Lord Jesus himself explained it later.

Simply put, we are both the “soil” to which seeds are sown, and the “sowers” who sow seeds to others. So, are we a person who can bear much fruit? Or someone who can find good soil and witness a good harvest?

The seed becomes a tree, and the tree will bear fruit when it grows up; eventually it will bear fruit, 100 times, 60 times, 30 times… some will bear some fruit, and some will bear a lot of fruit. What kind of tree are you? How much fruit did it bear?

Think about what “fruits of life” you have that you didn’t have before? Did it come after you have received God’s words?

2) Explanation of the Parable of the Sower (V18-23)

The explanation of the scripture is very straightforward and clear. This “seed” refers to the word of God. One is that they cannot understand and are stolen by evil people. The second is that they did not take root and grow after hearing the sermon, and they disappeared as soon as the test came. Third, although it is good to hear the true way, it cannot withstand the test of reality, and the result remains unchanged. Only in the end, a good heart can bear fruit a hundredfold for God. Whose responsibility is this? Obviously, it is not a question of [scripture], nor is it a problem of [preacher]. Clearly, how [listeners] prepare their hearts is the key to bearing fruit!

The Word of God is definitely a good seed. If the preacher is preaching the Word of God, the Word of God itself is powerful. But if the listener has not prepared his heart, the devil will definitely come to steal, the real environment will inevitably bring various tests, and life will surely have various difficulties. These are objective facts, but what is the ultimate purpose of Jesus’ parable? It is to listen to the word and understand it, and if you truly accept it, it will bear the fruit of life!

It turns out that it is one’s own choice and responsibility to remember God’s words carefully and strive to do things or live according to God’s truth and principles! Only when people are willing to be determined to stick to the Lord’s way, you will find that miracles that surpass people’s imagination will eventually happen. It means seeing 30, 60, or even a hundred times the fruit of life!

2. Revealing the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven through parables (13:10-17)

The parables of the Kingdom of Heaven are only known to the disciples! And “Whoever has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him” (V12). Are you a disciple of the Lord?
What a blessing it is that we can live in this era, be called to be the disciples of the Lord, and be able to understand the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven! Especially since we have eyes to see and ears to hear, we have the opportunity to hear the word of the Lord every day. I would like to ask whether our lives bear abundant fruits of life in our daily receiving?

Where is our blessing? Good seeds of the kingdom of heaven are constantly being sown in our outer lives, so that our lives will continue to bear abundant fruits!

3. Use various parables to show the kingdom of heaven (13:24-48)

1) Tares mixed with wheat (V24-30)

See clearly how the evil enemy is doing things in the dark! The “good soil” mentioned earlier is already very good. It can receive God’s word, grow in God’s house, and even bear many fruits of life. However, it turns out that the enemy will still play tricks in the dark to mix heresies and misleading theories into the church. As a result, the church may do many things, but not all of them are good. It may even mislead many people, which is exactly what happened with the emergence of heresies in the church!

2) The wicked mingle among the righteous (V36-43)

There are two types of people in God’s family: righteous people who are saved by the quality of their lives or fallen evil people. This matter will not be revealed until the end of the world when the Lord returns. At that time, some Christians will realize that they did not even know they were on the wrong track. Therefore, the fruit of the tree of life is very important. Truly living out the life of Christ is absolutely beautiful and edifying!

3) On the Faith of the Mustard Seed (V31-32)

“Little faith” is not a problem, as long as it is true faith; the faith generated by dwelling on God’s words will eventually become a big tree that blesses people!

How do you know if you have grown up? Simply put: “Children are taken care of, and adults take care of others.” Are you the one who is taken care of, or the one who gets up to take care of others? You must have the goal of preaching the gospel and shepherding people! And don’t wait too long, next year shall start practicing, okay?

4) Life is like leaven (V33-35)

A true life of Christ is powerful! Just like a little bit of inconspicuous yeast, it makes 27 kilograms of dough rise. This is the life of a true Christian!

Moreover, what we receive is the leaven of truth from the tree of life and the leaven of the kingdom, not the previous leaven of sin. Therefore, we must have a positive influence in life outside!

5) The Kingdom of Heaven is like a priceless treasure (V44-48)

We already have the most precious and priceless treasure in the world, including the Holy Spirit, eternal life, the Kingdom of God, and the new life given by God… How certain are you? I wonder what else in the world can compare with these.

Do you see how good it is to be a citizen of the Kingdom of God? How honourable and glorious, isn’t it? Why are there still believers who have low self-esteem?

4. There will be great judgment at the end of the world (13:49-58)

1) Are you a righteous person or a wicked person (V49-52)

There are only two endings: the Kingdom of God, a new heaven and a new earth? Or the eternal fire of hell?

2) Do you believe it or not (V53-58)

Jesus’ fellow villagers or family members despised him, disrespected him, and didn’t think there was anything special about him. Therefore, it was difficult to believe that he was the Messiah, the son of God. But what is your attitude toward the Lord today? Do you simply believe or are you a confused and false believer?

Conclusion: Two roads to either eternal life or destruction

Confirm your choice again today!

Book of Matthew 12

Matthew Chapter 12: “Choose Life First!”

Introduction: Always Leave Room

1. Recognize Who Holds Authority First (v.1-8)

The Sabbath was instituted to benefit humanity, not to burden it. Yet the Pharisees, under the guise of upholding the law, sought fault in others and even used the law as a tool for condemnation. Their actions revealed a deeper issue—they had forgotten that true authority belongs to God.

Jesus responded with the example of David: when David and his companions were hungry, they ate the consecrated bread without condemnation. Why? Because God’s mercy surpasses the law. He is the Lord of the Sabbath, and His grace is extended to those who trust in Him.
Have we, too, ever been so fixated on rules that we overlooked the essence of our relationship with God and others?

2. Seek to Please God First (v.9-21)

In the synagogue, Jesus healed a man with a withered hand. The Pharisees, however, were not concerned about the man’s healing but whether Jesus had violated the Sabbath law. Their focus was on rules, neglecting the value of life.

The key question here is: in our life’s choices, are our actions aimed at pleasing God, or are they driven by our own standards? Jesus teaches us, “Mercy is more important than sacrifice.” God values the motivations of our hearts over external formalities.

3. Understand God’s Works (v.22-30)

When Jesus cast out a demon and healed a mute and deaf man, the Pharisees claimed He did so by the power of the prince of demons. Their prejudice blinded them to God’s work and led them to question Jesus’ identity. Filled with jealousy, they failed to recognize God’s glory.

Do we harbor similar tendencies? When others receive God’s blessings, are we filled with gratitude, or do we respond with suspicion and envy?

4. Focus on the Holy Spirit, Not on the Flesh (v.31-37)

Jesus gave a stern warning: the sin of blaspheming the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. This reveals a heart that utterly rejects God’s work. Our words reflect the state of our hearts. Therefore, we must continually examine whether our hearts are led by the Holy Spirit or dominated by fleshly impulses.

The presence of the Holy Spirit brings wisdom, patience, and forgiveness, enabling us to face challenges without resorting to rash judgments or harming others.

5. Believe First, Don’t Test (v.38-45)

The Pharisees demanded a sign from Jesus, as though they were “testing” His authenticity. Jesus revealed their true problem: it wasn’t a lack of signs but a lack of faith. They sought only what they wanted to see and rejected what God had already revealed.

Do we sometimes adopt a similar mindset, basing our faith on conditions and demands rather than simply trusting in God’s guidance?

Conclusion: Adjust Your Priorities, Believe Simply (v.46-50)

Jesus declared that those who simply believe in Him are His brothers and sisters. This faith is not based on calculated reasoning or conditional exchanges but on complete trust. The key lies in adjusting the priorities of our lives, focusing on God’s will rather than our own rules, prejudices, or demands.

Book of Matthew 11

Matthew 11: Finding Rest in the Midst of Difficulty

I. A Vision Beyond Difficulty (vv.1-15)

1.Not Doubting God in Difficulty (vv.1-6)

John the Baptist, imprisoned for rebuking Herod Antipas for marrying his brother’s wife, found himself in a spiritual low. His vision and perspective began to blur. In the midst of his hardship, he questioned Jesus’ role. Why, after performing so many miracles, had Jesus not come to rescue him from prison? Why did Jesus associate with sinners and tax collectors? When would the kingdom of heaven come? So, he sent his disciples to ask Jesus if He was indeed the Messiah. This wasn’t a doubt about Jesus’ identity but a reflection of his disappointment. The phrase “or should we expect someone else?” was a challenge to Jesus, hoping He would demonstrate His power of Messiah by leading a Jewish revolt against the Roman Empire and restoring the Jewish nation.
From John’s actions, we can learn the following:

First, when facing difficulties, we should keep our eyes fixed on the Lord, not our problems or circumstances. Otherwise, like John, we might prioritize our difficulties and demand that the Lord solve them first.
Second, God’s timing and methods are higher than human understanding. We need to trust and wait for God’s timing and ways, rather than rushing or testing Him. We should not place our human desires above God’s will. Otherwise, the consequences could be disastrous.
Third, even if God doesn’t fulfill our requests, we must believe that He has good intentions.

2.Overcoming Judgment with Vision (vv.7-11)

Instead of condemning John for his doubts, Jesus focused on his strengths. He publicly affirmed and praised John.
When others are weak, are we willing to follow Jesus’ example and look beyond their problems to see their strengths and potential? Often, after receiving grace and overcoming past failures, we forget to extend grace to those who are struggling. Instead, we become judges! May God forgive us.

3.Striving Actively to Enter the Kingdom (vv.12-15)

Salvation is a free gift, but entering the kingdom requires effort. From John the Baptist to Jesus Himself, many things have hindered people from entering the kingdom. Jesus said we must actively remove these obstacles and strive to live in the reality of the kingdom. This means that it’s not just those who stumble, sin, or love the world who cannot enter the kingdom. Even ordinary, complacent Christians may be excluded.
Are we actively pursuing a life that reflects the kingdom of God and His will?

II. The Folly of Rebellion and Lack of Rest (vv.16-24)

1.Indifferent and Stubborn People (vv.16-19)

Jesus used the imagery of weddings and funerals to describe people’s indifference and rebellious hearts towards the kingdom. Whether it was the message of salvation or the judgment of God, they remained unmoved. They were not only numb to the Lord and His things but also slow to understand. Yet, God intended to reveal His wisdom through the judgment message of John the Baptist and the grace of Jesus.
Are we indifferent to the Lord and His work? May the Holy Spirit break our indifference and renew our hearts.

2.Those Who Cannot Find Rest (vv.20-24)

Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum witnessed many miracles performed by Jesus, yet they remained unrepentant. Jesus said that if these miracles had been performed in Tyre, Sidon, or even Sodom, they would have repented long ago. This shows how hardened the hearts of these people were.
Jesus clearly stated that everyone is responsible for their choices. The severe consequence of stubborn rebellion is eternal condemnation and the loss of eternal rest.

In today’s evil world, many people are also indifferent and reject the Christian faith and God’s salvation. As a result, they cannot experience God’s rest. May God give us the mission to rescue these people whom He loves from the brink of destruction. In this festive Christmas season, let us bring the Lord’s rest to those in need.

III. Finding Rest in God Amidst Difficulty (vv.25-30)

In this passage, Jesus sets an example for us to follow as we seek rest in the midst of difficulty. First, we must learn to:

1.Be Thankful and Submit to God’s Arrangements (vv.25-27)

Jesus knew that whether people accepted or rejected Him was determined by the Father’s hand. Therefore, He did not complain but gave thanks. This is the attitude that every disciple should have. All our experiences are measured out to us by God’s hand. We must firmly believe that there is a good purpose in everything, and we should simply accept it with gratitude. On the contrary, if we always have our own reasons and ideas and are unwilling to submit to God’s will, our hearts will be restless and we will not find peace.

2.Be Meek and Humble and Bear the Lord’s Yoke (vv.28-30)

Since Adam’s sin, toil and heavy burdens have been the reality for all people. This includes not only the labor of work and life but also the burdens of family, finances, relationships, sin, and pride.

Jewish farmers often used a yoke to train young oxen. In this arrangement, the larger ox bore all the weight while the smaller ox simply followed.

Jesus invites all who are weary and burdened to come to Him and learn from Him to be meek and humble, bearing His yoke. When we let go of our own insistence and fully submit to God’s will, and yoke ourselves with the Lord, He will bear the weight of the yoke for us. We need only follow Him like the young ox. In this way, even in the face of great difficulty, we will find rest.

Summary:

To find rest in the midst of difficulty, we need faith to transcend our circumstances and not question God’s actions. Even if God doesn’t fulfill our requests, we must believe that He has good intentions.
Repentance is essential to avoid the unrest caused by rebellion and to experience the rest that comes from God.

Through gratitude, submission to God’s arrangements, and meekly bearing the Lord’s yoke, we can find true rest even in difficult times.

Book of Matthew 10

Matthew Chapter 10: “True Following, True Price, and True Reward”
GK611 Morning Devotion

Introduction: Marathon

1. Being sent is provided for

(1) Disciples are sent (v.1-4)

Jesus called the twelve disciples, listed each of them by name, and gave them the authority to cast out demons and heal the sick. This was not because of the grace of calling, which meant that they participated in Jesus’ mission. When Jesus calls, he will definitely give them authority. He will be responsible for giving sufficient power to the workers called by the Lord Jesus. The Lord’s calling and entrustment will never exceed His grace’s provision.

(2) He guides the disciples’ path (v.5-15)

God’s missions all have a plan. Jesus instructs his disciples to find the lost sheep of the house of Israel, showing God’s intention to save the lost people. He taught his disciples to serve with simplicity, relying on God’s provision rather than relying on their own resources. The disciples should bring peace to those who receive them. At the same time, if they encounter a city that rejects the gospel, they should turn away and leave judgment to God.

2. Being sent has challenges and costs

(1) There are temptations and attacks (v.16-20)

Jesus reminded his disciples that they would be like sheep among wolves and needed to be “wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” It is a combination of wisdom and purity. When facing persecution, the disciples need not worry because the Holy Spirit will give words at critical moments.

(2) The price of enduring to the end (v.21-23)

Jesus reminds his disciples that they may be betrayed by their friends and relatives because of their faith, but the key to salvation is to “endure to the end.” When disciples face persecution, they must continue to preach the gospel of the kingdom of God by faith despite facing rejection and not be hindered by fear and pressure.

3. True following, true humility and obedience

(1) Humbly acknowledge the Lord (v.24-33)

A disciple is not above his Master. If Jesus suffered persecution, the disciples would also face the same situation. Those who acknowledge Christ, Jesus will acknowledge them before the Father. In the face of pressure and ridicule from the outside world, are we willing to openly admit that we are Christians?

(2) Obey and take up the cross (v.34-39)

Jesus emphasized that following Him meant giving up oneself, and even prepared their hearts for the possibility of persecution in the future. Because need to oppose worldly values and take up one’s own cross (v.38). Those who are willing to lose their lives for the Lord will gain true life.

4. Disciple’s Reward (v.40-42)

Jesus promised that those who welcome disciples will receive the reward of disciples; even if they receive a glass of cold water, they will not lose their reward. God values every little deed we do, and He will remember everything we do for Him. Whether we serve on the front lines or are supporters, every loyalty is seen and remembered by God.

Conclusion:
Jesus clearly reminds us in Matthew 10 that following Him is a path full of challenges but full of hope. Not only does He call us to be His disciples, He gives us the authority and ability to face challenges and ultimately respond to our faithfulness with abundant rewards.

Book of Matthew 9

Matthew 9 Act by Faith!
GK611 Morning Devotion
09/12/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Rev David Tan

Introduction: The foundations of faith — it’s all about [faith]!

1. The act of faith and authority to forgive sins (9:1-8)

(1) The root cause of the paralytic’s disease turned out to be sin (V1-2)

Jesus performed miracles because of the faith of the paralytic’s friends, but it turns out that some diseases are related to sin. Only the forgiveness of sins and faith can complete the miracles.

(2) God grants the authority to forgive sins (V3-8)

After demonstrating the miracles of forgiveness and healing, Jesus also brought out the message of God’s authority to forgive sins. This is also what the resurrected Lord said to His disciples: ” If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” (John 20:23)

2. Believe sinners need acts of mercy (9:9-13)

(1) Seeing the heart of a sinner (V9-10)

Jesus sees the hearts of sinners and knows they need salvation; isn’t that why we, the church, respond to the Lord’s calling?

(2) Seeing the needs of people’s hearts (V11-13)

Everyone needs a Savior, and the Lord’s heart is full of mercy. When we receive the Lord’s commission, aren’t we supposed to empathize with people’s needs?

3. Faith-skin renews act of service (9:14-17)

There is a famous saying in the Bread of Life church family: “The one fact that we will never change is that we are constantly being renewed and changed in the Holy Spirit”! What does the above verse say about when to fast or not to fast? What is a new wineskin or an old wineskin? What is new wine? In fact, if it were not for the passage of time and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, some renewal would have passed its original season. When should we continue to renew? To become new wine and new wineskins, you must follow the Holy Spirit closely!

4. Faith brings act of various healing (9:18-31)

(1) After her daughter died, she still asked Jesus to heal her because of her faith (V18-19, 23-26)

We believe that the Lord can raise the dead! But under what circumstances will we exercise “faith that raises the dead”?

(2) No one can cure the haemorrhage for 12 years, yet believe Jesus can (V20-21)

Just by touching the “fringes” of the Lord’s clothing, the haemorrhage of 12 years was healed. As long as the faith is pure, no method is difficult!

(3) Faith comes from asking for mercy from the Lord and exercising healing (V27-31)

Here we talk about two blind men, believing together, praying together, experiencing together, and witnessing together! As long as the subject of faith is the Almighty Lord, it is not a problem for several people to experience it at the same time!

5. Believe in the act of preaching the gospel of the kingdom of heaven (9:32-38)

(1) The kingdom of God defeats the power of the devil (V32-34)

The authority of Jesus is stronger than the power of the devil, but some people don’t believe it and even blaspheme! But the Lord left them alone, because true faith can withstand the test.

(2) The Lord’s workers will arise (V35-38)

“The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few.” This is also the call of this era. Have you ever stood up and responded to the call? Get up and take action!

Conclusion: Rise up and response to the Lord’s calling needs action

The church of Jesus Christ must be mobilized! Because this is the last period for the church to respond to the Great Commission, are you willing to believe and act and become a part of what the Gospel says?

Book of Matthew 8

Matthew Chapter 8: According to your faith, it will be done for you
GK611 Morning Devotion
06/12/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: IP Asher

Introduction: What do you do on a rainy day?

1. Know your Almighty God (V1-4)

As Jesus came down from the mountain, a leper came to Him and begged Him, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”
Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him and said, “I am willing. Be cleansed!” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Leprosy symbolizes the filth of sin, which leads to isolation, shame, and even death. However, the sick man recognized Jesus’ absolute power. He did not doubt Jesus’ authority to heal, but humbly asked for His mercy. This illustrates a key truth: There are no limits to God’s power, the only question is whether He wills it.

Don’t stay in the mindset of “maybe God can” or “maybe God will” but have firm faith and believe that God “absolutely can” and “will”. His timing, methods, and results may vary, but His power never changes.

2. Faith that does not rely on sight

(1) Jesus heals the centurion’s servant (V5-13)

A centurion was a Roman officer in charge of a hundred soldiers. When his servant was paralyzed and in pain, he did not find a doctor himself, nor did he ask Jesus to go to his home to heal him. Instead, he expressed his faith with the authority of just one word. He said, “Just say the word, and my servant will be healed.” He firmly believed that Jesus’ authority transcended space and could heal without being physically present. Jesus praised his faith and did what he believed.

Faith is not limited to sight, but a complete belief in God’s authority. Don’t be shaken by your inability to see or feel what God is doing.

(2) Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law and many sick people (V14-17)

Jesus entered Peter’s house and took the initiative to heal Peter’s mother-in-law. He later healed and released many demon-possessed people. The Bible says: “This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, saying, ‘He took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.’” (verse 17) Jesus reveals that He is the Messiah, touching every need with His power people. God’s salvation is not something we deserve but comes by His grace. We need to receive His active blessings and power by faith.

3. Follow with confidence to the end

(1) There is a price to pay for following (V18-22)

Following Jesus is not just a decision, it is a price to pay. Some people said they were willing to follow Him, but Jesus reminded them: “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” (verse 20) Jesus calls people to put God first in their lives, not anything worldly. Priorities. Following God is not just a verbal commitment, but a life attitude that requires self-denial, concentration, and continuous action.

(2) Follow the environment and no longer focus on it (V23-27)

In fact, Jesus had commanded them to “depart to the other side” (verse 18), but because of the sudden storm, the disciples only focused on the storm in front of them and forgot what the Lord had commanded them earlier. No matter how great or difficult the environment is, we must not forget what God once said.

4. Unwavering confidence (V28-34)

The Lord Jesus allowed the unclean spirits to enter the pigs, and the pigs threw themselves into the sea and died. But the people in the city rejected Jesus because of the damage to their property. Don’t ignore God’s actions because of immediate gains and losses, because His plan is far beyond our understanding.

Conclusion:

Whether it is knowing the power of God, having faith without seeing it, or following with faith to the end, they all tell us a core truth: faith determines how much grace we can receive from God. Let us always hold on to God’s promises and live out the abundant life He has prepared by faith!

Book of Matthew 7

Matthew Chapter 7: Choices for Citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven GK611 Morning Devotion
05/12/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Deborah

I. Citizens of the Kingdom Must Love God and Love Others (V1-12)

1. Self-Examination, Not Judgment (V1-5)

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught His disciples to avoid being hypocritical. When pointing out others’ faults, they must first examine themselves to see if they have greater flaws.

Truth first speaks to our own lives, not to accuse others. Out of love for God, we allow the cross to refine us, and then, from a foundation of love, we encourage and help others.

2. Discernment, Not Disputes (V6)

In Jesus’ time, dogs and pigs symbolized unclean people. Spiritual truths, though precious, must be shared with the right people at the right time. When dealing with unbelievers or spiritually immature individuals, we need the Holy Spirit’s wisdom to guide us in sharing, avoiding misunderstandings, disputes, or causing others to stumble through deep doctrines.

3. Pray, and You Will Receive (V7)

Jesus acknowledged that it’s impossible through human strength alone to avoid judging, to discern wisely, or to refrain from disputes when treated unfairly. Hence, He taught us to pray. When we persistently seek the Father with effort and sacrifice, He will surely answer our prayers.

4. Love God and Love Others (V12)

This verse summarizes the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus taught that no matter what happens, the way you treat others should reflect how you want to be treated. The essence of the Law and the Prophets is to love God and love others as yourself. Even when others seem undeserving, treat them as better than yourself, from the perspective of the tree of life.

II. Wise Choices for Citizens of the Kingdom (V13-29)

1. Two Paths (V13-14)

Jesus presented two paths for believers to choose from: the wide gate and broad way, or the narrow gate and small path.

The wide gate symbolizes worldly ways, where one can act freely and even encourage others to join in sin to cover their own. Many choose this path, but it leads to destruction.

The narrow gate represents the disciplined path of the cross. Those who walk it align their lives with truth, live by the principles of the tree of life, and please God.

Ultimately, there are only two destinations: destruction or eternal life. Which path are you on?

2. Two Kinds of Fruit (V15-20)

Walking the narrow path brings opposition. Jesus warned of false prophets and taught us to recognize them by their fruits.

God is not impressed by the number of good deeds we perform. He values the source of our actions. Living by Christ’s life produces good fruit, while living by our natural desires results in bad fruit, even if our actions seem good.

3. Two Types of Service (V21-23)
Not everyone who says, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the Father’s will.

Zeal, hard work, or spiritual gifts cannot replace obedience to God’s will.

Service that seeks personal glory or approval while neglecting others’ needs and souls is unacceptable to God.

Let us align our service with God’s will, lest we miss the opportunity to repent and correct ourselves.

4. Two Foundations (V24-27)

Both the wise and foolish build houses, but the difference lies in their foundation.

Houses built on the rock withstand rain, floods, and winds, while those built on sand collapse under the same conditions.

Obeying Jesus’ words lays a solid foundation on God, ensuring our faith withstands trials. Absolute obedience secures a firm spiritual foundation.

5. Two Teachings (V28-29)

After the Sermon on the Mount, the crowd was amazed at Jesus’ teaching, which was starkly different from the scribes.

The scribes focused on the law and traditions, emphasizing rules while neglecting God’s mercy and justice, leading people into burdensome rituals.

Jesus, with divine authority, revealed the true meaning of the law, convicting hearts, inspiring repentance, and encouraging people to pursue a deeper relationship with God.

Conclusion:

Kingdom citizens are called to enter the narrow gate, walk the path of life, and practice the teachings of loving God and loving others in their daily lives.

With spiritual wisdom, make God-centered choices, remain steadfast in truth, beware of false prophets, and build your faith on the solid foundation of obedience to God’s will.

Introduction:The Heart of a Poor Widow

1. Simple Giving (V1–4)

The Jews often displayed their good deeds in synagogues or on the streets to gain others’ praise. Jesus pointed out that such acts were done for people, not for God. God’s people should give “in secret”, acting only before God, seeking His approval rather than human recognition.

2. Genuine Prayer (V5–15)

(1) Building Intimacy (V5–6)

Prayer is communication between a person and God, not a performance for others to see or hear. Jesus instructed His disciples not to imitate hypocrites who prayed in synagogues and on street corners. Instead, prayer should be done in a private room, alone with the Father.

(2) Aligning with God’s Will (V7–8)

Jesus emphasized avoiding thoughtless, mechanical prayers. The Heavenly Father values a heart that seeks and depends on Him. Before we ask, He already knows what we need, though we may not always realize it ourselves. Through prayer, we understand what we truly need and align ourselves with His will.

(3) Focusing on the Father (V 9–15)

In verses 9–13, Jesus provided a model prayer centered on the Father, not merely for recitation but to teach His disciples the essence of prayer. Verses 14–15 explain verse 12, showing that God is willing to forgive us, but an unforgiving heart hinders our relationship with Him and blocks us from receiving His grace.

Summary: Prayer is not a performance but a means of building intimacy with God. We should set aside daily time to pray sincerely, not for others to see.

3. Simple Fasting (V16–18)

The devout Pharisees fasted at least twice a week and often made it obvious. However, true fasting is about humbling oneself before God, giving up legitimate pleasures to seek His mercy and grace—not to earn human praise. Jesus taught that fasting should appear normal outwardly, without drawing attention to oneself.

4. Pursuing Heavenly Treasures (V19–24)

Jesus instructed not to store up earthly treasures, which are unreliable, but to store treasures in heaven, which are eternal. Where our treasure is, our hearts will also be. If we store wealth on earth, our hearts will be preoccupied with earthly matters. But if our treasure is in heaven, our hearts will focus on heavenly things.

No one can serve two masters; we either love God or love money. Storing wealth for oneself on earth makes wealth our master, leading to a disregard for God. Prioritizing God, however, diminishes our attachment to earthly wealth. Therefore, we must regularly evaluate whether God’s kingdom and righteousness are our top priorities.

5. Complete Trust (V25–34)

Using examples from nature (birds and lilies), Jesus reminded us that God is a faithful provider. Worrying cannot change circumstances; it only diminishes our faith. While worry cannot add to our lives, it drains our energy. Trusting God allows us to see His provision in difficulties. Prioritizing His kingdom and righteousness reflects trust and is the antidote to worry.

Conclusion:
A life that pleases the Heavenly Father is one of authenticity, simplicity, pursuit of heavenly values, and complete trust. It is the direction of our lives. Let us live out these teachings daily, living for the Father rather than for people.
