27|Psalm 27

24/11/2024

Book of Matthew 1

Matthew Chapter 1: The Lord Immanuel is born
GK611 Morning Devotion
26/11/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Daniel

Introduction:

“The Gospel of Matthew” is one of the four gospels in the New Testament, written by Matthew, a disciple of Jesus. The main readers of this book are Jews. One of the purposes of writing it is to prove to the Jewish nation chosen by God that Jesus Christ is the one promised by God, the Messiah from the house of David! At the same time, this gospel also emphasizes that Jesus is “Immanuel” – the Lord who is with us!

1. Genealogy of Jesus Christ (V1-17)

(1) The Identity and Mission of Jesus (V1)
Matthew begins with a genealogy as an introduction, clearly indicating the identity of Jesus: He is a descendant of Abraham and a descendant of David, fully fulfilling God’s promise that the Messiah will come from the royal family of David (see Samuel 2 7:12-13).

(2) God chooses people out of grace (V2-16)
This genealogy is best known for its record of four women—Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Uriah’s wife Bathsheba. In ancient genealogies, women are rarely mentioned, and these four women included in the genealogy of Jesus all had stains and flaws. They were all remarried Gentiles.

Through this genealogy, we see God’s incomparable and abundant grace! No matter what race, gender, or how broken their past lives were, God can choose and call repentant lives to be part of His plan of redemption! At the same time, He also encourages us to spread the gospel to everyone around us with love.

2. The birth of Jesus Christ (V18-25)

(1) It is God’s salvation plan (V18-21)

Mary’s pregnancy was a miraculous act of the Holy Spirit, because the mission of Jesus’ birth was to V21 ‘save the people from their sins’. Just like when our children are caught in a fire, we will naturally rush in to save them without hesitation, even risking our lives; similarly, the Lord Jesus came to the world to personally save us from the fire of sin!

Therefore, when we fall into sin, the first thing to do is confess our sin and recognize our desperate need for redemption!

(2) It is the promise with God’s presence (V22-25)

The birth of Jesus fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which is said in Isaiah 7:14: A virgin will conceive and bear a son, and his name will be Immanuel” (which means God is with us). This is God gives the greatest comfort and promise to mankind—He is always with us!

True faith is not just thinking in your head but hearing God’s words and then obeying and acting without fear. In this process, God will surely reveal His will to us through various means. When we truly believe and obey, we can personally experience the guidance of God’s presence!

Conclusion:

The birth of Jesus is not only a Christmas story, but also a true manifestation of God’s great redemption plan, reminding us that God takes the initiative to save us, and He will always be with us. We need to submit to His will and trust His plan!

Book of Psalms 36

Psalm 36: Seeing Through Darkness and Going to the Light
GK611 Morning Devotion
22/08/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: IPs Asher

Introduction: The absence of light

1. The Godless are swallowed by darkness

1. Godless eyes, lack of awe (v.1)
2. Boasting and flattering oneself, losing the truth (v.2)
3. Deceitful words, destroy relationships (v.3)
4. Planning evil things, never getting tired of it (v.4)

When a person does not have God in his eyes, he becomes self-centered and is gradually swallowed up by darkness. People without light walking in darkness will inevitably be trapped without knowing it. David calls such people wicked because they not only ignore God but also boast and flatter themselves, rationalizing their own weakness and sinful nature. They bury their heads in the sand like ostriches, refusing to face God’s truth and instead indulging their own desires. What’s even more frightening is that they go beyond that and even use deceitful words to hurt others and take pleasure in planning evil things. This lifestyle ultimately leads to broken relationships and self-destruction.

2. Those who have God see God’s goodness

1. Loving and faithful (v.5)
2. Righteous judgment (v.6)
3. Rescue provision (v.7-8)
4. Light and Life (v.9)

Faced with the sins of evil men, David did not indulge in resentment or self-pity. Instead, he turned his attention to the goodness of God. He chose to praise God for His love, faithfulness, righteousness, judgment, and provision. He was also convinced that only God is light, and only in Him can light be seen.

God’s nature is like the love of heaven and the grace of the sea, full of endless riches. Anyone who seeks Him can find protection and satisfaction, and enjoy the sweetness and bright guidance of life. By knowing Him, people of God can not only be renewed, but also become channels of blessing to others.

3. Those who have received the light can see through the difficulties before them.

1. Pray for your enemies and live out love (v.10)
2. Believe that God is in control amidst difficulties (v.11-12)

People who know God can see their enemies and the difficulties before them in a different light because they have received light. David prayed that God would give mercy and justice to the upright, and he also called on Him to cause the wicked to stumble. A man of God does not repay evil with evil but is willing to intercede for his enemies and respond to harm with love. Light enables us to firmly believe in God’s control in difficult situations, to overcome fear with faith, and to overcome evil with good. Such people are like lights in the world, living out the testimony of the tree of life and becoming a blessing to those around them.

Conclusion: Where there is light, where there are trees, there is a road

People who belong to God must first be alert and avoid becoming people who are godless and walk in darkness; secondly, they must know the goodness of God and be rooted in His love, righteousness, and light; and finally, they must live an abundant life. Learn to respond to enemies with love, face challenges with faith, and walk out on the bright road. May each of us be able to see through the darkness and move towards the light in the light of God!

Book of Psalms 35

Psalm 35: From Opposition to Victory
GK611 Morning Devotion
21/08/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Stella

Introduction: The Story of the Old Tailor

I. Crying Out for God’s Justice (v1-10)

1. Seeking God’s Help (v1-3)

David brings his plight directly before God, asking Him to fight on his behalf and praying for the defeat of his enemies. His faith stems from knowing that God is his ultimate protector. Aware of his own weakness, David relies on God to fight for him.

2. Trusting in God’s Justice (v4-8)

David prays for the wicked to face the consequences of their actions and “fall into their own net.” This reflects his trust in God’s justice. When faced with injustice, we should entrust vengeance to God and not let anger lead us into sin.

3. Rejoicing in God’s Deliverance (v9-10)

Despite his difficult circumstances, David already sees God’s deliverance. This demonstrates his deep faith in God.

Summary:

When faced with injustice and opposition in life, many instinctively try to resolve issues on their own. However, David teaches us to bring accusations and grievances before God, the source of all justice.

II. Responding with Trust and Forgiveness (v11-18)

David describes the falsehood and malice of his enemies, who repay his kindness and love with evil. Yet, despite this, he chooses to trust God, believing that He will administer righteous judgment.

David’s experience reminds us that when facing betrayal or malice, we should not let hatred consume us. Instead, we must choose forgiveness and trust in God. Even when others repay evil for good, we should follow Christ’s example and respond with love.

III. Confident in the Manifestation of Justice (v19-28)

1. Praying for God to Silence the Mockers (v19-21)

David describes the mocking and deceit of his enemies, praying that God will not allow them to triumph. He declares that God’s justice will ultimately bring victory, as God will not let the wicked prevail forever.

2. Calling for God’s Fair Judgment (v22-25)

David knows that God sees all things, even before they occur, and will not abandon those He loves. When we truly regard God as our Lord and Savior, we can trust that He will not allow the enemy to boast over us. Thus, we must believe in God’s justice, which will surely be revealed in His perfect timing.

3. Praising God’s Justice (v26-28)

David concludes his prayer with praise, confident that God will bring shame upon the wicked and cause the righteous to rejoice. God’s justice will never be delayed. It will be accomplished according to His timetable. During the waiting process, we must bear witness to His faithfulness with faith and hope.

Conclusion:

•Believe that God is the only source of justice.
•Do not let hatred take root in your heart; choose love and forgiveness.
•Praise God as you wait for His work and bear witness to His victory.

Psalm 34: Taste and See That the Lord is Good
GK611 Morning Devotion
20/08/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Deborah

Introduction: Is it just luck?

In the valleys or difficulties of life, when things suddenly turn around, do you attribute the change to “luck”?

Psalm 34:1 recounts David acting madness before Abimelech, which resulted in his escape. From a human perspective, it might seem like a dramatic stroke of luck that David escaped King Achish of Gath. However, David recognized it was not mere luck but God’s mercy. If not for God’s compassion, no act of pretending madness could have saved him if the king had resolved to kill him as revenge for Goliath. In gratitude and testimony to God, David composed this psalm, encouraging others to experience God’s abundant grace.

I. Praising God at All Times (v1–3)

After escaping, David returned to the cave of Adullam in Saul’s territory, a place still fraught with danger and hardship. Yet, knowing his deliverance was God’s protection, he humbly and joyfully praised the Lord.

Praise is one of the most powerful weapons God gives us to overcome the enemy. The enemy delights when we face challenges by relying on our own strength, wallowing in despair, or blaming God. But in verse 3, David invites others to exalt and praise God’s name together, for what he experienced is available to all!

Are you facing difficulties now? Let us open our hearts and joyfully proclaim:
“Lord, You are truly great. We exalt Your name together! Jehovah Jireh! Jehovah Nissi! You will lead us to victory.”
When we praise God like this, the oil of joy fills us.

II. Humble Dependence Leads to Radiance (v4–6)

David emphasizes that God hears the prayers of the humble and helpless, delivering His people from fear and trouble. To truly experience God’s salvation and the glory that keeps us from shame, we must humbly seek, look to, and call upon Him.

Not only in times of fear and trouble should we seek and call on God, but as blessed people, we must also look to Him continually in times of peace. The more we look to God, the less we focus on ourselves or the storms around us. This allows us to sail through life’s storms with peace, reflecting the glory of the Lord. (Let’s continue 40 days dreaming with God)

III. Experience God’s Goodness Personally (v8–14)

David urges us to “taste and see that the Lord is good” and become blessed by doing so.

Last year, when my family planned a trip to Japan, Sister Susie spoke highly of Hakone. She described its beauty: hot springs, enjoying tea and cake in cafes, and the view of Mount Fuji. Even Shimu testified it.

How could I truly experience Hakone’s beauty and hot springs? Only by choosing to go there myself. Similarly, how can we taste the goodness of the Lord and be blessed? Only by choosing to:

1. Live a Life of Trusting God (v8)

The goodness of the Lord is reserved for those who actively seek, trust, and yearn to experience Him.
Many times, we neglect closeness with God due to work or busyness, causing us to miss His goodness and remain shallow in our knowledge of Him. Let us cultivate a life of trust and longing for God, becoming people who daily experience His goodness. Don’t be like me, who didn’t take actions in pursuing Hakone and till today, the beauty of Hakone is only an imagination in my mind.

Let us live a life that trust and seek the Lord and truly experience His goodness.

2. Uphold Reverence for God (v7, 9–14)

David reminds us that those who revere God will lack nothing good.

We uphold reverence for God in these ways:

A. Speak Words of Grace (v. 13a): Beyond refraining from evil speech, God’s children should
exceed this basic requirement by speaking graciously. Without grace, our words can easily turn harmful.

B. Be Honest and Sincere (v. 13b): Deceptive lips stem from a corrupt heart. Do we fall into false worship, feigned obedience, or rationalize our mistakes? Do we hide facts in business, exploit legal loopholes, or use half-truths to mislead others?

C. Turn from Evil and Do Good (v. 14a): Not only should we avoid evil, but we must actively pursue goodness, caring for the marginalized.

D. Seek and Pursue Peace (v. 14b–c): God’s children should strive for peace, helping resolve conflicts with perseverance and consistency.

E. Pursue persistently (v. 14c): At last, David reminds us that we should pursue God with a reverent and persistent heart until it becomes our second nature.

IV. God Watches Over the Righteous (v15–22)

1. God’s Grace for the Righteous:

God, as a loving Father, watches over the righteous in both joy and trials.

2. God’s Judgment on the Wicked:

The wicked, estranged from God, face His wrath and ultimate destruction, ensnared by their own deeds.

May we all rely on Him always and live a blessed and righteous life.

Conclusion: Live as Witnesses of God’s Goodness

Psalm 34 reminds us that life’s turning points are not luck but God’s grace. Having tasted God’s goodness, let us not remain idle but live as witnesses, drawing others to “taste and see that the Lord is good.”

Book of Jeremiah 52

Jeremiah 52 The hope of tearing down and rebuilding
GK611 Morning Devotion

The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Daniel

Introduction:

Although the last chapter of Jeremiah, Chapter 52, is full of scenes of judgment and destruction, it also demonstrates God’s mercy and grace after judgment. Let us see how, behind the brokenness and demolition, God has prepared the hope of restoration for His people.

1. The prophecy of God’s judgment comes true (V1-11)

This passage first shows us that God’s judgment on the nation of Judah has come true. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came and captured Jerusalem, burning the temple and taking the people captive. Zedekiah’s impenitence not only brought the destruction of him and his family, but also plunged the entire country into God’s judgment.

Today, God is also calling us to repent. We may have experienced “barrier” in some places, some parts are broken, have we sensed God’s warning? Are we rejecting God’s reminders and calls? Refusal to repent will only bring destruction!

2. God’s judgment contains grace (V12-23)

This passage records the destruction of the temple, city walls, and palaces, and the robbery of temple utensils. But God still has grace after judgment, and the instruments in the temple were not completely destroyed but were taken to Babylon until the day when God visited the Israelites (Jeremiah 27:21-22). The survival of the vessels foreshadowed later reconstruction and restoration.

‘Destruction and overthrow’ are not God’s ultimate plan, but His process of bringing about restoration. Just like a gardener pruning branches and leaves to help plants grow better, God’s judgment contains grace and hope. So, when we face demolition in our lives, don’t despair, but turn your eyes to God and believe that He will accomplish a better plan!

3. Three times captured, broken and rebellious (V24-30)

This part records the tragedy of Judah being taken captive to Babylon three times. This is not only the process of a broken country, but also the result of God’s desire to break the disobedience of the people. However, these three captivities actually represent God’s patient judgment process, giving people opportunities to repent again and again.

‘Three Captivity’ reminds us of the price of disobedience. God’s judgment is not partial, and neither kings nor nobles nor ordinary people can escape. But there is hope in the brokenness. When people are willing to repent, God is still a God full of mercy; God’s judgment is not to punish, but to turn us back.

4. Planting and reconstruction after demolition (V31-34)

The end of the book of Jeremiah records that King Jehoiachin of Judah was released after 37 years of captivity and was even brought to dine at the king of Babylon’s table, which he did for the rest of his life. This shows that after judgment and destruction, God still has a plan of restoration. God still provides opportunities for restoration and revival for those who repent.

We can also be renewed after experiencing brokenness because God does not just tear down, His ultimate purpose is to rebuild. In our moments of brokenness, God is also preparing us for a new beginning. His grace always transcends our understanding, often making a way out for us where we least expect it, if only we know how to repent!

Conclusion:

Jeremiah 52 is not the end of tragedy, but the beginning of God’s grace. God uproots and tears down, but the ultimate goal is to plant and establish deeper and more beautiful things. Let us see the tree of life that God wants to plant in the uprooting of life! Even when we experience brokenness, God will lead us toward restoration, and every restoration carries His grace!
