9|Psalm 9

14/10/2024

Book of Jeremiah 32

Jeremiah 32: A Temporary and Light Suffering
GK611 Morning Devotion
11/10/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: IP. Asher

Introduction: Bitterness followed by sweetness, hope is in the “sweetness”

1. Suffering is inevitable in life (V1-5)

Jerusalem was besieged by the armies of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon for many years, and the people in the city suffered from famine and war. The prophet Jeremiah faithfully conveyed God’s warning, predicting that the city would be captured and King Zedekiah would be captured. However, Zedekiah was dubious about Jeremiah’s words and even believed that he was bringing disaster, so he imprisoned him in the court of the prison. But even though Jeremiah was in prison, God still spoke to him.

We are often troubled by unsatisfactory and painful situations in life, but just like Jeremiah’s experience in trouble, these sufferings are not eternal, but only a temporary part of life.

2. Still obedient in difficult circumstances (V6-15)

While Jeremiah was in prison, God told him to buy a piece of land, which was highly unusual at the time because Jerusalem was about to be destroyed and the land had almost no value. However, Jeremiah obeyed God’s instructions, and his cousin Hanamel also came to him to sell the land in response to God’s prophecy. This action symbolized God’s promise to the Israelites—that despite their captivity, they would eventually return and rebuild their homes.

Sometimes we are in pain or difficulty, but God still works in our lives through these experiences. Just like Jeremiah, even though he was imprisoned, he still heard God’s words and continued to carry out God’s commands.

3. Don’t give up no matter how hard it is.

1) If you have any suffering, you can speak to God (V16-25)

After Jeremiah completed the purchase of the land, he was filled with confusion. He didn’t understand why he needed to buy land on land that was about to be destroyed, but still acknowledged that “nothing is impossible through You.” Jeremiah frankly expressed his doubts to God, but did not refuse to obey God’s command because of it. Even in difficult situations, we can honestly tell God that He has the power to do more than we can imagine.

2) Repentance in suffering will bring blessing (V26-44)

2.1 Divine reasons for destruction (V26-35)

God revealed the reason why Jerusalem was destroyed—the people had worshiped idols for many years, strayed away from God’s law, and even sacrificed their children to false gods. These sins result in God’s righteous judgment.

2.2 Promises after judgment (V36-44)

Although the people will be driven out of this land, God promises to bring them back in the future and give them “one heart and one way” so that they will fear God, obey His ways, and never stray from it. God will make an everlasting covenant and will never abandon His people, and eventually they will be restored and settled again. God’s mercy and justice coexist, and judgment is not for eternal destruction, but for repentance and restoration.

Conclusion:

Although the suffering today is heavy, it is temporary and light. God is preparing us to enter eternal glory.Whether we cry out in suffering or rejoice in revival, He is always with us. Although we often feel heavy when facing suffering, this heaviness is only temporary, and if we trust God and continue to move forward, we will eventually enter the incomparable weight of glory He has prepared for us.

Jeremiah 31: God loves me with an everlasting love!
GK611 Morning Devotion
10/10/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps. Deborah

Introduction: Home Improvement Plan (HIP)

I. Because God is my Father (v1-9)

The passage begins by stating that although the people were rebellious and broke God’s heart, God remained faithful and declared that He still recognized them as His people and persisted in being their God.

Moreover, God took the initiative to tell His people that He wasn’t just the God of Israel but their Father and that He had an everlasting covenant with them. Therefore, He loves them with an everlasting love. Not only will He care for His children during times of disaster and suffering, but He will also lead them to peace, healing, and joy.

Brothers and sisters, is God your Father?

A father would never desire for his children to perish. Therefore, when we are suffering, lost, or grieving because of God’s discipline, we must trust that if we are willing, God, as our Father, who loves us with an everlasting love, will guide us on the path to forgiveness and comfort. Let us cling tightly to our loving Father.

II. Life corrected and receiving the Father’s promise (v10-20)

1. Redeemed by God and delivered from enemies (v10-11)

God calls the nations to hear His words and to proclaim throughout the world that He will gather the scattered people of Israel again and protect them as a shepherd does his flock. This shows that whether God’s people are scattered due to discipline or lost because of worldly desires, God has not forgotten them. God will use all means to bring them back and deliver them from their enemies.

If there are backsliding Christians around us who have strayed from God, we should also have faith that God will bring back these lost sheep. So, continue to pray, entrust them to God, and take every opportunity to invite them back to church.

2. Blessed by God with contentment and joy (v12-14)

God says His people will return to the promised land He gave them. Men, women, young, and old will all rejoice in God’s grace, their hearts refreshed like a well-watered garden. Not only will God meet their material needs, but He will also turn their sorrows into joy. Moreover, in verse 14, Israel’s temple worship is restored, and the people come before God to offer thanksgiving and worship. This is a restoration of the relationship between God and His people.

In our busy lives, many people seek material wealth but often feel empty, including some who are children of God. As God’s children, if we believe that God loves us with an everlasting love, we will also value our relationship with Him, trust in His care, and often count our blessings with a thankful heart.

Those who are discontent can easily fall into greed and debt. So, brothers and sisters, let our satisfaction be found in God. Let God be our peace and our source of joy.

3. No longer wandering, returning to the promise (v15-17)

In Israel, childlessness was considered a curse from God. Here, God assures Rachel that there is hope in the end because the exiled children will no longer be wandering but will return. They will break free from the curse and enter the blessed life promised by God.

4. Turning back and receiving God’s instruction after experiencing His love (v18-26)

After experiencing God’s loving discipline, Israel regrets and laments. They humbly ask to be taught, even pleading with God to help them return to Him, for they recognize, “You are the Lord God.”
Through Jesus Christ, we have received God’s abundant grace. Do we acknowledge God as our Lord? When we hear the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit reminding us, do we immediately turn back to God? Or do we wait until we experience painful discipline before we regret and lament?

In verse 21, God asks the people to reflect on how they ended up in captivity and to set up signposts and landmarks along the road they traveled. This would help them recognize their mistakes and understand how God led them through these paths.

Often, when people make mistakes, if they don’t reflect on where they went wrong and don’t let God’s truth guide them, then even if they regret it, it will be of little use because they won’t know where to start correcting themselves.

In addition to being willing to turn back and be taught, in verse 22, the prophet predicts that Israel will one day return to God with devotion and unchanging love, like a woman encompassing a man. Today, do we love Jesus with such devotion and affection?

5. Everyone will be accountable to God (v27-30)

In verse 28, God, who loves His people, says: “Just as I have watched over them to uproot and tear down, to overthrow, destroy and bring disaster, so I will watch over them to build and to plant.” God’s aim was not to destroy the sinful Israelites, but to eliminate their sins and negative influences. God wanted them to receive complete renewal.

Are there still areas in our lives that need to be renewed by God? Moreover, verse 29 reminds us that God is just and fair, and each of us will be held accountable to Him for our actions. Therefore, we must take responsibility for our conduct.

III. Renewing the covenant with the Father (v31-40)

The relationship between God and the Israelites was based on the covenant made at Mount Sinai. In this old covenant, although God was like a husband to them, the people constantly broke the covenant and committed spiritual adultery by worshipping idols. However, after the exile, God promises to make a new covenant with the Israelites. He will write His commandments on their hearts, and everyone who trusts in Him will be forgiven, with their sins remembered no more.

At the time, the Israelites may not have fully understood what this new covenant (new testament) meant. But we now know that this new testament was fulfilled through the salvation of Jesus Christ.

The new testament mentioned in Jeremiah thousands of years ago refers to us today, who are reading the Bible. Therefore, when we look at the sun, moon, stars, and seas, we should remember that the Creator of these things is our Heavenly Father, who has made an eternal, unchanging covenant with us. He loves us with an everlasting love!

Conclusion: Responding to God’s Love

God loves us with an everlasting love. How will you respond to His love?

Jeremiah 30: God’s Healing and Restoration
GK611 Morning Devotion
09/10/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps. Stella

Introduction:

Though Israel fell into trouble because of sin, God promises that He will restore them and make them prosperous again.

We see that God’s promise to Israel is that after enduring the pain of exile, He will personally lead them back to their homeland and restore their lives.

1. God’s Judgment and Promise (V1-3)

In Jeremiah’s time, both Israel and Judah experienced devastating destruction. Their cities were conquered, and the people were taken captive to Babylon. This was God’s judgment for their prolonged rebellion and disobedience to His word. However, even in this desperate situation, God left them with a hopeful promise. His plan was not just to punish them for their sins but to bring about revival and restoration after judgment.

Just as the Israelites knew that God had not abandoned them during the years of exile, we too must trust that, regardless of our current situation, God’s plan will ultimately bring about revival.

2. Promise of Salvation and Raising Up (V4-11)

The Lord gave a prophecy of hope and promise to Israel and Judah, even as they were facing impending hardship and judgment. God not only foretold the difficult times the house of Jacob would endure but also clearly declared their eventual salvation and restoration. Here, God’s love and faithfulness are strongly revealed—He will not forget His people, and He remains with them even in their darkest moments.

Each of us may feel uncertainty or fear about the future. However, by trusting in God’s guidance, we can find stability in an unpredictable world. Remind yourself daily that God has promised to lead us into the good plans He has prepared for us, and we can courageously face the future with this promise.

3. Promise of Healing and Recovery (V12-17)

Through Jeremiah, God pointed out that Israel’s condition was “incurable,” and their wounds were severe, seemingly beyond healing. Yet, despite the severity of the wounds, God promised that He would personally heal them and deliver them from their suffering. God’s healing is not just external but also internal, as He desires Israel to return to Him and restore their relationship with Him.

Is there a place in our spiritual lives that seems “incurable”? Perhaps it’s a long-standing struggle with sin or unresolved conflicts with others. Yet, God’s promise is that He is willing to heal us, no matter how severe the condition. As long as we come before Him, acknowledging our weakness and sins, He will grant spiritual restoration.

4. Promise of Rebuilding and Revival (V18-24)

God promised that He would lead Israel in rebuilding their homes and restoring their dignity. He assured that not only would Israel’s homes and wealth be restored, but more importantly, their relationship with Him would be renewed. They would once again be His people and enjoy an intimate relationship with Him.

This reminds us that the true heart of any revival is a return to God’s presence and worship. Material restoration and victories are secondary; what matters most is that we become God’s people again, and He becomes our God once more.

Conclusion: Hope for Restoration and Spiritual Revival

Though Israel once faced judgment due to sin, God’s ultimate intention was always to revive and restore His people. God not only desires to lead us out of difficulties, but more importantly, He wants us to return to His presence and rebuild a close relationship with Him.

Today, God reminds us through these Scriptures that no matter what trials or difficulties we face, He always has a plan for restoration. Our responsibility is to trust in His promises, repent, and turn back to Him, embracing His healing and renewal.

Jeremiah 29: God’s Message to the Exiled People
GK611 Morning Devotion

The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps. Daniel

1. Live a good life and build a family (V1-7)

1) The people were taken into captivity because it was God’s will (V1-4)

God told the exiled people through Jeremiah’s letter that their situation was God’s discipline. King Nebuchadnezzar captured them because it was God’s will to help them repent.

Today we need to understand that when God allows something to happen to us, He must have His good intentions and plans. Therefore, no matter what kind of environment we face, we must look at it with awe.

2) Live in peace and have many children (V5-6)

God told them to build houses, farm, get married, have children, and be fruitful in Babylon because they would be there for a while.

God wants us to believe in and live out His plan no matter what the circumstances are, not to wait for ‘a better time’ to start.

3) Pray for peace for the enemy country (V7)

God not only wanted them to live in peace, but also prayed for peace for the enemy country Babylon. Although they were unwilling, this was God’s command because their lives were closely related to this city.

God wants us to pray for peace for those around us wherever we are, even to say hello to those who don’t care about us, and to pray for those who persecute us.

2. If you seek with all your heart, you will find God (V10-14)

Jeremiah told them that God would bring them back after seventy years, but during this period, they must seek God wholeheartedly, because no matter where they are, as long as they seek with their hearts, they can meet God. Even in difficult times, God is still there.

God is everywhere and He does not abandon us. Therefore, no matter how lonely, helpless, and painful we are, as long as we seek God wholeheartedly, we can find Him in any unexpected place! Experience God’s faithfulness and grace!

3. See through the temptation of false prophets (V8-9, 15-20)

God warned the people sternly not to listen to false prophets. Those who disobey God and remain in Jerusalem will be like “figs too bad to be eaten” and suffer punishment by sword, famine, and plague.

We also need to have spiritual discernment and not be deceived by false voices. Don’t follow the world’s popular opinions, or solutions that may seem appealing on the surface.

4. The tragic end of the false prophet (V21-32)

1) Ahab and Zedekiah were burned to death (V21-23)

These two false prophets used the name of God to deceive the people and were eventually burned to death by the king of Babylon. This warns us not to twist God’s word or we will face God’s judgment.

2) No one remains of Shemaiah and her descendants (V24-32)

Shemaiah tried to sow discord, and as a result, he and his descendants were punished by God. God will vindicate His people, and those who obstruct God’s word will eventually be judged. Therefore, we must firmly speak the truth in love and not be afraid of people’s opposition.

Conclusion: God is in control, trust His plan

Even in the plight of captivity, God is still in control! Don’t rush to escape from difficulties, but seek God’s face in them, because He has prepared a wonderful future for us!
