Judges 14: Putting on "Spiritual Glasses"

Introduction: Practicing x- ray vision
In the past, when I went to the market with my mother to buy vegetables, she did not just look at the surface of the vegetables, but also pay attention to the core, origin, price, seller and other factors before making a decision. I also have eyes, but at that time there are many things I can not distinguish. Why are there still people who can't tell the difference between fake notes? Because we all have less practice, can not see, can not understand, in the end, the loss is their own.
The story of Samson today tells us to keep our eyes open. We need to put on our spiritual glasses, otherwise we will be blinded by the world and flesh.
1.The eyes of the flesh make us blind V1-4
(1)Seeing only the needs of the flesh V1-3 Samson lived in Zorah, upstream of the brook Sorek, and Timnah was downstream of the brook Sorek. The valley of Sorek was the border between the Israelites and the Philistines. Every time he went to Timnah, he needed to go down like the sea, and his life kept going down.
Samson was chosen by God to be the judge, and God anointed him. He was a Nazirite, who should have been sanctified and used by God to save Israel from the Philistines, but he was blinded by the lust of his eyes. He only wanted what he wanted, and ignored the commandments of God and the counsel of his parents.
(2)Losing the joy of working with God V4
Samson's eyes were attracted to the Philistine woman, and this became a weakness in his life. This was Samson's choice, and God used his weakness to deal with the enemy. Just as God had allowed Joseph's brothers to sell him into Egypt. Samson lived in himself as he pleased, unaware of God's plan for him. Although he was still being used by God, he was unable to understand God's heart and lost the joy of working with God.
2. The curious eye makes us forgetful V 5-9
(1) Forgetfulness Steps Into Temptation V5
The area of Timnah was well suited for growing grapes and was the dividing line between the Israelites and the Philistines in the days of the scribes. Samson took the initiative to approach the temptation and went where he should not go, for God had commanded that the Nazirites should keep away from all grape products.
(2) Forgetting God's Reminder V6
When Samson was in danger, God stepped in to save him and caused him to tear the lion apart. The Spirit of God came upon him, but he did not tell his parents, so he had forgotten all about God. God may have asked him to turn back through this filling, but Samson could not resist the temptation of beauty and continued on.
(3) Forgetting his identity V7-9
Samson returned to the vineyard once again, and this time to the point of forgetfulness. Out of curiosity and good food, he violated the Nazirite rule of not going near a dead body, and took the honey taken out of the dead lion. He also gave it to his parents, so that they also violated the rule of cleanliness of food.
3.Blindness limits the works of God V10-20
(1)The Blind Life V10-17
Samson's father went down to meet the woman, and Samson set up a banquet there. The verse "For this has always been the rule with young men" may mean that Samson was already drinking with the crowd. The whole wedding feast was conducted in the manner of the Gentiles. The Philistines were afraid of Samson, so they invited thirty people to the feast.
Samson probably saw their hostility and challenged them with a riddle. But in the end, he could not resist the tears of the women and gave away the answer to them. None of the scenes at Samson's wedding had the holiness of the Nazirites. But God allowed these things to happen to break up Samson with the Philistines so that the Israelites would be awakened from their slumber.
(2) Weakness cannot accomplish great things V18-20
The Spirit of the LORD moved Samson greatly, and great power came to Samson. Before him, the judge mentioned that the Spirit of the Lord came upon them at most once, but only Samson was touched by the Spirit of God four times.
It was a pity that he had received such special grace from God, but he lived only by himself and was not set apart for holiness. Samson's life was so full of gaps that God could only use him for very small things, and at that moment he only killed 30 people and a lion.
The gap in his life blinded Samson's spiritual eyes, and he went about his business by mistake, following his lusts, and God wanted to use him, but he used him with difficulty. We see Samson rushing around like a brute bull, but God could not find anyone else but him.
Conclusion: Don't become spiritually blind Today, we need to be careful not to decide our lives according to what we want. Although Samson was used by God despite his suffering and failures, God does not want this for us, but expects us to obey the Holy Spirit, live in Christ, and enjoy the joy of working together with God.
Ask God to help us not to become spiritually blind. Put on spiritual glasses at all times, so that we may recover from myopia and other eye diseases.
