Exodus 11
Becoming God's People

The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Daniel
1. God Personally Punishes the Enemy (v1a)
Pharaoh had long rebelled against God. Despite enduring nine plagues, his heart remained hardened. Thus, God instructed Moses to warn Pharaoh that He would personally bring the plague of the firstborn upon Egypt and lead the Israelites out of slavery.
God's patience is not limitless. Persistent defiance of His will ultimately leads to His judgment. Therefore, let us pray for a heart that fears, obeys, and humbly repents before Him.
God is both just and merciful. He will vindicate His people against oppression, persecution, and injustice. We need not take matters into our own hands or seek revenge but trust and entrust ourselves to Him.
2. God Personally Redeems His Promise (v1b-3)
While God punishes the rebellious Pharaoh and Egypt, His people will, by His grace, reclaim what was lost:
i) Regaining Freedom (v1b)
When God brings the final plague, Pharaoh will urgently drive the Israelites out of Egypt. God's deliverance will completely free them from bondage, not just physically and in identity, but also spiritually.
ii) Redemption of Wealth (v2)
The Israelites, having been exploited as slaves, possessed no wealth. Yet, their Egyptian neighbors gave them gold and silver articles immediately when they asked. This was not an encouragement to seek unearned gains but an emphasis on the righteous act of God through judgment, allowing the Israelites to reclaim the wages and inheritance denied to them for generations. As the Bible says, "The wicked man piles up his wealth, but the righteous wears it" (Job 27:17).
iii) Restoration of Honor (v3)
Once despised and oppressed by the Egyptians, the Israelites now found favor and respect in their eyes. This was not merely due to the miracles but a manifestation of God's glory upon them, especially Moses, whom God made greatly esteemed among the Egyptians.
Regardless of our education, wealth, or status, if we are God's people and choose to walk with Him, He will make us influential and honored before others.
God's redemption is not just liberation from slavery but a comprehensive restoration. This year, God will personally lead us to reclaim His promises—be it freedom, wealth, identity, honor, time, broken marriages, relationships, careers, or gifts. He will restore everything.
Exodus repeatedly emphasizes two things: 1) Pharaoh's stubbornness against God brought plagues upon Egypt, and 2) God's covenant-keeping love protected His people through every plague.
Whether we face blessing or calamity depends on whether we choose to stand with God and become His people.
1. Egypt: The Death of Every Firstborn (v4-6)
The tenth plague, the death of the firstborn, shows how Pharaoh's hardness brought immense suffering upon Egypt, even leading to the death of his own son.
The decisions of leaders affect not only themselves but also their people, the next generation, and the nation. Today, we must pray for those in authority—candidates, leaders—that they may fear God and make just, God-honoring decisions, bringing peace and blessing to the nation.
2. Israel: Set Apart for God (v7-8)
God favors His people. While Egypt mourned the loss of their firstborn, not a single Israelite or their livestock was harmed, for they were set apart for God.
We, too, are set apart for God. He binds Himself to us through His covenant. Our affairs, big or small, matter to Him. He will never abandon us or our descendants.
Let us pray to cherish His election and live as His people, not only blessing ourselves but ensuring our generations are set apart and preserved by God.
• Pharaoh's hardened heart forced God's hand, leading him and his nation to destruction.
• Let us choose to stand with God, obey His will, and become His people, blessed for generations, and a blessing to others!
