John 10
All Sheep Belong to God
24/04/2025
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Rev David Tan
The Bible describes people as sheep—there are sheep and goats, and there are those inside the fold and those outside. God's intention is that all sheep belong to Him, but sadly, that is not always the case.
a. The Way of the Door – Jesus is the Only Door
When it comes to faith in life, Jesus Christ is the only door. He is the one and only way to eternal life. Since we have received Him, we now also become representatives, leading others to this door.
b. The Way of the Shepherd – Sheep Cannot Be Without a Shepherd
Christians who enter the Church through Jesus become His sheep. Sheep need a shepherd. The shepherd knows his sheep, and the sheep recognize his voice. The shepherd leads the sheep to green pastures so they may grow in health and receive an abundant life.
c. The Thief – Who Comes to Steal, Kill, and Destroy
Sheep without a shepherd are vulnerable to thieves who kill and destroy. This is the work of the devil. Shall we lose the abundance of life and become lost victims?
We must guard the Door of the faith, enter the True Way of being shepherded, and stay vigilant against the thieves who seek to destroy.
a. Not a hired hand – Who Works Only for Pay
A hireling works for wages—he does only what he’s told, only as much as he’s paid. That may seem responsible, but God desires more: a heart that cares deeply for the needs of His sheep.
This is the mindset of an owner, a leader, or a parent—not just an employee. It’s as though failure is not an option for the sheep.
b. The Good Shepherd – Who Lays Down His Life for the Sheep
There’s a saying: “Give your life for a friend.” This shows loyalty and going all the way for another’s need. But when Jesus talks about laying down His life, He means genuine sacrifice. Of course, God does not ask pastors or leaders to physically die—but the spiritual meaning carries deep weight: a love that counts no cost. The shepherd knows his sheep deeply—just as the Father knows the Son, and the Son knows the Father. What a high and perfect standard! Father and Son are one—completely united. We still have much room to grow.
a. Jesus and the Father are One (v30)
Jesus is part of the Trinity. Seeing Him is like seeing God.
b. Are We Gods Too? (v34–35)
John 10:34 Jesus said, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods”’? 35 “If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken)...”
This refers to Psalm 82:6: “I said, ‘You are gods (Elohim), and all of you are children of the Most High.’”
Being a child of God means we reflect the Father. To see the son is to see the father. It’s a sobering idea. Like Moses was called a “man of God,” many Old Testament prophets were also called that—a phrase used 78 times in the Old Testament.
Have you ever considered yourself to be a “person of God,” a part of God’s purpose?
a. The Lord Seeks the Sheep Outside the Fold (v16)
God’s heart is to win people. Seeking lost sheep is God’s mission and ours for life.
This verse also implies bringing Gentiles into Israel’s sheepfold—all under one Shepherd, Jesus Christ.
b. The Lord Rejects Unbelieving Sheep (v19–33)
Those who do not believe often speak harshly, even blasphemously. Back then, they sought to kill Jesus. Today, some unbelievers persecute Christians with equal passion. They deliberately reject the Lord who loves them. Tragically, at the end of the age, they will be abandoned by the Lord and fall into destruction—they are the goats.
Do you have loved ones who are lost sheep?
Jesus is the door for lost sheep, and we are the ones to lead them back to the Shepherd’s fold.
