The Wise Walk with the True God

The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps. Asher
1. Do Not Forget His Grace: God Has Never Wronged Us (v1–5)
God established a spiritual courtroom, calling the mountains and the foundations of the earth to witness the covenant of grace He made with His people. He is not delivering a cold, harsh judgment; rather, like a loving Father, He asks, “What have I done to wrong you?”
He gently reminds us that from the deliverance out of Egypt, to the sending of faithful leaders, from turning curses into blessings, and leading us into the Promised Land—every step has been a testimony of His faithful grace.
A wise person does not forget God in times of trouble. While the foolish complain, the wise look back and remember. Are we, like the Israelites, focusing only on our present struggles, while forgetting how faithfully God has cared for us all along?
2. No Bargaining: God Wants Our Hearts (v6–8)
The people asked, “What shall I bring to please the Lord? Calves? Rams? My firstborn?” ,But this is not true devotion—it is a misunderstanding.
They thought God, like idols, could be bribed. But God had already made it clear: “Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.” He doesn’t desire bigger offerings, but a heart that draws nearer. The wise do not rely on service, money, or rituals to “earn” grace, but choose to walk with God daily—living with gentleness, reverence, and true devotion. Today, are we following God? Or are we expecting God to follow us?
1. No Fear of God: Those Who Practice Injustice Will Surely Be Judged (v9–13)
“The wise will fear His name.” But in those days, the people were full of deceit, lies, and violence. They had grown used to living without God—using dishonest scales and speaking with deceitful tongues.
God’s response was not silence, but a strike. He said, “I will make you desolate because of your sins.” This was not revenge—it was a holy warning. The foolish despised God’s correction, mistaking discipline for misfortune and His patience for weakness. Are we living the same way today? Gradually growing comfortable with injustice—until we can no longer hear the voice of God?
2. Empty Gain: Trusting in Vanity Leads Only to Shame (v14–16)
“You will eat but not be satisfied; you will sow but not reap.” God exposed the futility of their lives—so much effort, yet no fruit. Why? Because their trust was no longer in the Lord, but in politics, idols, and human schemes. They followed the ways of Omri and Ahab, and their end was shame and desolation. The foolish think that effort alone guarantees results, but they fail to see: If it's not on God's path, everything will ultimately be torn down.
Today, are we placing our trust in God—or in methods, feelings, and outward forms? Are we building a house upon the Rock—or chasing after illusions built on sand?
The United Nations uses the second half of this verse as a declaration, expecting all nations to lay down their weapons, pick up farming tools, and only care about producing food instead of producing weapons for war. However, if it is not for God to reign as king as mentioned above, peace is only a dream, not a reality to be expected.
The wise walk with the true God—not because they are perfect, but because they know how to return to Him. They remember God's grace and never take it for granted. They don’t bargain with God; they choose to walk in His will. They fear His holiness and refuse to trust in empty things. Today, let us be those wise ones—doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with our God who walks with us.
