Ezra Chapter 1: God Promises Restoration and Return
GK611 Morning Devotion 15/07/2025 The Morning Devotion Speaker: Rev David Tan Introduction: A complete package I. God Himself Stirred Up the Spirit of People (Ezra 1:1–6) The power of the mind is stronger than the external power, but the power of the mind depends on what influences it. What source is it connected to? If it is connected to a hurt person, a failed experience, or a feeling of being oppressed, then that kind of power is distorted. However, if it is connected to God, then it is a positive and infinite source. Therefore, we must learn to thirst for God, just as a deer thirst for water! II. Look to God in the midst of pain (Psalm 42:3-5) The pain of the past is a fact, and the damage caused is also real. This also applies to spiritual experiences. They were once glorious and abundant but later became dim and desolate. Although the environment is very difficult, the change is only a matter of thought. When you look up to Jesus, your state of mind can change instantly. Just like the message I shared with you last Sunday: "Let go and Let God." III. Heart to heart with the Lord (Psalm 42:6-7) When we are surrounded by enemies on all sides and problems are endless, it is like waves that overwhelms us and there is no way to escape. However, we can connect with God in such a deep situation! IV. My God is present day and night (Psalm 42:8) True faith is not the absence of darkness, but the singing in the darkness. Prayer is not an output of emotion, but a manifestation of faith. In the darkness, do you continue to pray? That is the touchstone of whether your spiritual life is rooted. V. Seemingly Forgotten, Still Looking Up (Psalm 42:9-11) The enemy's ridicule is the most hurtful, but we must respond from the standpoint of faith. Faith is not the absence of doubts, but the choice to trust in the face of doubts. Use faith to motivate yourself. God is not only a helper, but also the source of our "glory" and identity. What ultimately overcomes the trough is not a change in environment, but the restoration of faith. Conclusion: Life’s Response Are you in a spiritual trough? God has not abandoned you. Learn to pray in the dark night, remember God in the storm, and exhort yourself in pain. Reaffirm the declaration of faith: "I will still praise the Lord!"
