2 Chronicles 2:Seek First God’s Kingdom, Then Govern the Nation
GK611 Morning Devotion 01/10/2025 The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Stella Ling Introduction: King Solomon’s important mission was to build the temple for the Lord. I. A Firm Determination (2 Chr. 2:1–2) The Scripture says: “Solomon determined to build a temple for the Name of the Lord.” This was not a casual decision but a firm resolution. He knew the challenges of building the temple, yet he set his heart to complete it, because it was God’s commission. Without such determination, we can easily be drawn away by the world, busy with career and wealth, and forget the most important mission—to live for God. Solomon’s resolve was clear: not to patch together a life, but to build for God. II. A Humble Attitude (2 Chr. 2:3–10) Although Solomon had wisdom and wealth, when facing the mission of building the temple he showed deep humility. He knew it could not be done by power or riches, but only by depending on God. 1. Because of God’s greatness and holiness (v3–6) Solomon acknowledged that even the heavens cannot contain God; the temple was only a sign of God’s presence with His people. He understood he was merely a vessel. The focus of service is not how much we can do for God, but how great God is beyond us. God does not need us, but graciously allows us to participate. 2. Because of God’s commission and worship (v. 7–10) Solomon emphasized that the core of the temple was worship, not architecture. Its value was not in gold, silver, or precious stones, but in being a place for people to worship God. Today we must also remember: serving is not about displaying ourselves, but pleasing God. Paul reminds us: “Whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord.” The focus of service is not man, but God. Summary: Solomon reminds us of two things—humility because of God’s greatness, and focus on worship because of the temple’s true purpose. We too need such an attitude today to bring glory to God. III. The Help of the Gentiles (2 Chr. 2:11–16) 1. The testimony of the Gentiles (v11–12) King Hiram of Tyre said: “Because the Lord loves His people, He has made you their king.” Even a Gentile king saw God’s work and acknowledged His greatness. Today, when we live faithfully for God, people around us will also see the difference and give glory to God. True testimony is not spoken, but lived out. 2. The sharing of resources (v13–16) Hiram not only praised God but also supplied craftsmen and materials. This shows that God can use Gentiles to fulfill His plan. God’s work is not confined to the church; He can mobilize all resources. Building the temple is like assembling a puzzle—each person holds one piece, but together it becomes complete. Today, the church likewise needs the coordination of different gifts and resources to accomplish God’s will. Summary: When God’s people serve faithfully, He causes Gentiles to witness His glory and mobilizes all things to fulfill His plan. IV. The Committed Workers (v17–18) Solomon counted the foreigners living in the land and assigned them to work according to their skills—some as stonecutters, some as carpenters, some as carriers. The temple was not completed by Solomon alone, nor by the help of Gentiles only, but by the united commitment of countless workers. Today in the church, every person matters. No matter what ministry role, in God’s eyes nothing is small. Every offering is like a brick in the temple. Conclusion: What Are You Building? Solomon’s temple no longer exists, but today God is building you and me as His spiritual temple. A firm determination is the foundation, humility is the incense altar, a generous heart is the open door, and faithful devotion are the stones. One day God will not ask how much we earned, but: “What have you built for My kingdom?” Today, let us resolve: to spend our whole life building an eternal temple for God.
