2 Chronicles 4:Expansion to Complete the Lord's Work
GK611 Morning Devotion 03/10/2025 The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Asher Chang I. Expansion of Life (2 Chr. 4:1–10) Today God shows us the expansion of the temple, not merely as historical narrative, but as a message to us: our bodies are also temples of the Holy Spirit, and they too must be expanded! God's kingdom must expand, but where does it begin? It begins with our own temple. 1.The Bronze Altar: Greater Redemption (v1) The bronze altar in the temple was sixteen times larger than the one in the tabernacle, big enough to receive many more sacrifices. This tells us that God’s redemption is prepared for many, not only for a few spiritual elites, but for all people who may come to the altar and receive forgiveness and reconciliation. Today, our living temples must also expand: do not keep ‘salvation’ confined to ourselves, but broaden our hearts so more may come to know Christ through us. 2.The Sea of Cast Bronze: Greater Cleansing (v2–6) The ‘sea of cast bronze’ was a vast laver for washing, where priests first purified themselves, and sacrificial offerings were washed. This reminds us: more must be cleansed, and more thoroughly cleansed. Today, our temple of life must expand: not content with merely believing in the Lord, but continually being cleansed by God's Word and the Holy Spirit, renewing our minds, purging spiritual refuse, to bear greater glory. 3. The Golden Lampstand: Greater Filling (v7) The tabernacle contained only one lampstand, yet the temple held ten, all fashioned according to God's pattern. Lampstands symbolize the Spirit of God—the light must expand until darkness has nowhere to hide. For our lives to expand today, we cannot merely kindle a small flame during gatherings. Instead, let the Holy Spirit's light illuminate every corner of our existence: family, workplace, thoughts, speech. Do not settle for a life that is but ‘one lamp’; allow God to expand you into a temple of ‘ten lamps,’ filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit! 4.The Showbread: Greater Spiritual Food (v8) The temple had ten tables for the showbread, symbolizing greater provision from God. The bread was ‘the bread before the Lord,’ a symbol of His presence and Word, prefigured in Christ Himself as the Bread of Life. Today if our lives are to be expanded, we must be nourished daily by God’s Word—not just a bite once in a while, but filled and strengthened in spirit. 5.The Court of the Priests: Greater Intercession (v9–10) The establishment of the Priestly Court in the temple reminds us that God desires to raise up more priests. For our lives to expand, we cannot merely be ‘spectators in the outer courts’; we must enter the ‘priests’ court’, rising to serve, intercede, and carry God’s commission. II. Expansion of Connections (2 Chr. 4:11–18) Huram’s background was complicated (his father was a man of Tyre, and his mother from the tribe of Dan), yet he was used by God. Possessing wisdom and skill, he offered his craftsmanship to build the temple for God. God connects those of humble origins into His plans; our gifts are not coincidental but can become vessels for the temple. We must not despise ourselves, nor use our skills only for ourselves. When offered up, they can become testimonies of God’s glory to others. III. Faithful Continuation (2 Chr. 4:19–22) Solomon demonstrated faithfulness by fulfilling his father David's vision. He not only possessed the resources but also meticulously followed the blueprint in every detail. All vessels were crafted from pure gold, with even the smallest items (tongs, censers) executed without compromise. Expansion is not merely about pioneering; but also about faithfully carrying it forward. We often enjoy what predecessors have prepared while neglecting the responsibility to carry on continuously. God’s calling is not for us to quit halfway, but to remain faithful until the end, completing the work He has entrusted. Conclusion: Expansion to complete the Lord’s work is not about outward expansion alone, but about inner renewal. Life must be expanded: being saved, cleansed, filled, nourished, and rising to serve. Connections must be expanded: like Hur, being accepted by God and offering our gifts. The commission must be faithfully carried forward: like Solomon, faithfully completing every detail Today God also calls us into His temple—to expand our lives, expand our connections, and faithfully completing the work He has entrusted, so that His glory may be revealed through us.
