2 Chronicles 14:Walk in the Right Path and Receive Peace
GK611 Morning Devotion 22 October 2025 Speaker: Ps Stella Ling Introduction: Where Does True Peace Come From? I. Walk in the Right Path: Fear the True God and Remove Idols (2 Chr 14:1–5) 1. Remove Idols and Cut Off the Root of Sin (v3–5) When Asa became king, the nation’s faith was in chaos and idols were everywhere. He inherited a kingdom that was “strong on the outside but rotten within.” Yet his first step was not to consolidate power—it was to restore true worship. He led the people to fear God and remove idols, knowing that idolatry is not a trivial matter—it is the unfaithfulness of the heart. God is also saying to us today: remove the idols in your heart—money, career, reputation, or relationships! This is not because God is petty, but because He knows that only when He returns to the center of our hearts can we truly find freedom and peace. 2. Establish the Right Path and Restore Worship (v4–5) Asa didn’t only “tear down”; he also “built up.” He commanded the people to “seek the LORD their God and obey His laws and commands.” He knew that tearing down idols was not enough—the void must be filled with true worship. The emptiness left by false gods must be occupied by the true God. Only when we draw near to and revere the true God, removing idols and walking in His righteous ways, will peace naturally come. The right path is the road that leads to peace. II. Receive Peace: Prepare Yourself and Depend on God (2 Chr 14:6–15) 1. Wisdom During Peace (v6–8) “At that time the land was at peace; he had no war, because the LORD had given him rest. Asa said to the people of Judah, ‘Let us build up these towns and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars… because we have sought the LORD our God.’” (v6–7) The nation enjoyed ten years of peace—and Asa used those ten years to build! His words to the people were full of wisdom: “The land is still ours because we have sought the LORD.” Asa’s wisdom was in knowing that peace is not something to take for granted—it is a gift from God. So he used peaceful days to build walls, train soldiers, and prepare for the future. This reminds us that when life is going smoothly, it’s not time to relax—it’s time to build. 2. Trust During War (v9–12) After peace came war. The Cushite army invaded with over a million soldiers—far more powerful than Judah. But Asa was not afraid; his first response was to pray. As a result, God intervened personally and gave them a great victory. We too face “Cushite armies” in life—sudden illness, job loss, family conflict. The key is not how strong the enemy is, but whether we depend on God. Therefore, we must learn to rely on God in times of peace to prepare, and rely on Him in times of trouble for strength. Conclusion: Peace Depends on Our Choices Asa’s life teaches us that peace does not come from outward prosperity but from walking in God’s righteous path. If we walk our own way, no achievement can bring peace; but if we walk God’s way, even amid storms our hearts remain calm. May God help us to walk in the right path and receive true peace, for walking in God’s way is itself the greatest security!
