2 Chronicles 26:The Fatal Fall of a Good King
GK611 Morning Devotion 12 Nov 2025 Speaker: Pastor Daniel Kew I. A Blessed Beginning — Receiving God’s Extraordinary Help (2 Chr 26:1–15) 1. Laying the Foundation for Success (V1–5) Uzziah became king at sixteen and reigned for fifty-two years. Under the guidance of the prophet Zechariah, he “set himself to seek God,” and therefore “God made him prosper.” This reveals a key principle of blessing: whoever sincerely seeks God will surely be blessed by Him. We too should actively seek spiritual mentors who help us walk the right path. Before making any decision, we must first pray and seek God’s will, rather than relying on our own understanding. 2. Enjoying Comprehensive Blessings (V6–15) Here we see God’s all-encompassing blessings upon Uzziah: ● In warfare — He defeated his enemies, and his fame spread as far as Egypt. ● In national affairs — He built fortified cities, ensured abundant water sources, and saw agricultural and livestock prosperity. ● In the military — His army was powerful, and skillful craftsmen invented advanced weapons, making the kingdom exceedingly strong. The core of his prosperity lies here: “God helped him… so that he was marvelously helped until he became strong” (V7, 15). Such ‘marvelously help’ came directly from God! His blessing was holistic — not only spiritual, but also extended to Uzziah’s work, family, and character. II. The Fatal Turning Point — The Arrogant Uprising (2 Chr 26:16–18) 1. The Birth of Pride (V16) When Uzziah became strong, his heart was lifted up in pride, leading him astray — this marked the turning point of his life. When everything seems to go smoothly and others praise us, we must pray all the more vigilantly: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts; see if there is any wicked way in me.” 2. The Defiant Act (V17–18) Uzziah arrogantly entered the temple to burn incense — something reserved only for priests. The high priest Azariah and eighty other priests boldly confronted him, saying, “You have committed sin!” In every sphere — home, church, or workplace — God has established distinct roles and authorities. Our duty is to be faithful where He has placed us, willingly fulfilling His calling, not coveting or intruding into positions that seem more glorious. III. A Shameful Ending — The Lifelong Leprosy (2 Chr 26:19–23) 1. Immediate Judgment (V19) When Uzziah became angry at the priests’ rebuke, leprosy instantly broke out on his forehead — God’s judgment was direct and immediate! When people stubbornly resist God, He may allow “leprosy” to come — broken relationships, inner emptiness, career setbacks — all to awaken and restore us. Therefore, once we notice signs of sin or pride, we must repent immediately instead of hardening our hearts in anger. 2. A Lonely and Isolated End (V20–23) In the Old Testament, leprosy symbolized uncleanness, and the leper had to live apart from others. Uzziah, once a glorious king, became a despised outcast — living in isolation until death. His life concluded with this tragic note: “He was a leper.” The beginning of faith is important, but perseverance to the end is even more crucial. The greatest tragedy in life is to be cut off from God’s presence. We must strive to remain always in His love. Conclusion: Seeking God brings blessing; pride leads to downfall! In Christ, pride can be forgiven, leprosy can be healed, and separation can be removed. God still chooses the humble to accomplish His glory.
