Revelation 8: The Seventh Seal: The Day of JudgementGK611 Morning Devotion 24.02.2026 Speaker: Rev David Tan Introduction: ‘Count to Three!’ I. Heaven on the Day of Judgment (Rev. 8:1–5) 1. The Silence in Heaven (V1–2) The Lamb Himself opens the seventh seal, and suddenly there is silence in heaven for about half an hour. It is a silence that makes one afraid, because severe judgment is about to come. Silence does not mean God is absent; but rather that He deliberately remained silent, compelling people to hear and respond. When the seven seals were opened, the sound was not overwhelming, and people might still pretend, “This has nothing to do with God.” But when the seven trumpets sound, it is public and earth-shaking—everyone knows it comes from God. Yet even then, people may still stubbornly refuse to repent. Why did God remain silent? The silence of the seventh seal was not void, but the moment when ‘the Spirit began to move.’ Though silent, God was at work, entrusting the trumpets to the angels while continuing to act and speak through the Church. This silence was not despair, but pointed towards a new creation, towards new heavens and a new earth. 2. Preparation in Heaven (V3–5) Before the trumpets are blown, a golden censer, the golden altar, and the smoke of incense appear. The incense smoke symbolises accepted prayer—the prayers of the saints ascending to God, moving His hand to act. Then fire from the altar is placed into the censer. Fire represents the Holy Spirit, power and judgment. When poured out upon the earth, it brings thunder, voices, lightning, and earthquake—judgement falling upon the kingdom of the Antichrist. This passage reminds us that the advancement of God’s kingdom is closely tied to the prayers of the saints. Heaven first receives the prayers; then judgment is executed on earth. Prayer is not the sigh of a bystander, but the response of victory and the breakthrough in spiritual warfare. II. The Angels Sound the Trumpets of Warning (Rev 8:6–13) 1. Judgment upon Land, Sea, and Sky (V6–12) As the seven angels prepare to sound their trumpets, God begins to intervene publicly in history. The first four trumpets strike the land, the sea, the rivers and the water sources, and the sun, moon, and stars—like a replay of the plagues of Exodus. This demonstrates that though the kingdom of the Antichrist may be arrogant, the authority to judge remains firmly in God's hands. These disasters affect ‘one-third’ of creation. This is not because God is weak, but because in His mercy He gives warning and opportunity for repentance. What is truly terrifying in the last days is not the disasters themselves, but the stubborn refusal to repent amid them. The church, in times of tribulation, must endure and fight on—being built up by the Holy Spirit and continuing to overcome in victory. 2. Repent, Repent, and Repent Again (V13) An eagle flying high in midair proclaims loudly: “Woe! Woe! Woe!” This is not to create fear, but to give a final The next three trumpets will more directly strike “those who dwell on the earth”—those aligned with the Antichrist and who reject God. The first four trumpets shake the natural world; the deeper judgments to come will strike humanity itself. Yet even in judgment, God still offers a final opportunity. Now is the time to respond to the gospel: repent, turn back, and repent again. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind: preach the gospel and make disciples. Love your neighbour as yourself: lay down hatred and choose forgiveness. Conclusion: Heaven Sounds the Trumpet in Preparation; Pray and Stay Alert on Earth
