Revelation 15: The Worship Before Judgment

Introduction: When History Enters Its Final Stage
I. Victory in the Sea of Fire (Rev. 15:1–2)
John saw the seven angels who held the last seven plagues. He also saw what looked like a sea of glass mixed with fire, and those who had overcome the beast were standing on it. The sea of glass symbolizes the holiness and authority before God’s throne, while the fire represents trials and persecution. This is not a calm, undisturbed surface, but a sea burning with flames.
The overcomers did not escape the fire—they stood above it. This shows that true victory is not avoiding pressure but remaining faithful to God in the midst of it. They refused to compromise with the beast and did not allow the world to shape the object of their worship.
Today, we may not face a visible mark, but we face the pressure of values and the temptation of secular standards. When truth is relativized and sin is justified, will the church remain steadfast?
These overcomers held harps from God in their hands. They were not merely enduring reluctantly; they were standing in worship. Worship thus becomes a declaration of allegiance, proclaiming that God alone is King. If our lives today lack a foundation of worship, we will not stand firm in future trials.
II. Praise in Holiness (Rev. 15:3–4)
The overcomers sang the song of Moses and the song of the Lamb, linking the deliverance of the Exodus with the salvation of the cross, revealing that God’s work throughout history has always been consistent. The focus of their praise was not their own victory, but the greatness and marvellous deeds of God. His ways are just and true. Even before the seven bowls were poured out, they proclaimed the righteousness of His judgments.
This reminds us that true worship cannot sing only of love while ignoring holiness. Without justice, grace is made cheap; without reverence, worship becomes empty formality. The passage emphasizes with a rhetorical question: “Who will not fear You?” When one truly knows God’s holiness, one cannot take Him lightly. Th worship before judgment is rooted in the knowledge of God’s nature and is an acknowledgment of His absolute sovereignty.
III. Judgment in Glory (Rev. 15:5–8)
1. The Temple Opened — The Source of Righteousness (v5–6)
The temple in heaven, the tabernacle of the testimony, was opened. This shows that judgment proceeds from God’s covenant and law, not from emotional anger. The ark symbolizes God’s presence and His standards, demonstrating that His actions are grounded in His character.
The seven angels were clothed in pure, bright linen, symbolizing the purity and righteousness of judgment. God will not violate His covenant. He is patient with sin, but He will not ignore it forever. The opening of the temple signifies that God acts according to His established decrees.
For the church, this is a reminder: God’s standards have not changed. Our lives must remain under His holiness. Grace is not endless delay; it is an opportunity to repent.
2. Glory Filling the Temple — No One Could Enter (v7–8)
When God’s glory filled the temple, no one could enter until the seven plagues were completed. This scene reveals the finality of God’s action. Once judgment begins, no one can stop it. Glory is manifested not only in blessing, but also in righteousness.
If God never judged, the suffering would have no hope, and evil would have no end. The moment when glory fills the temple becomes a dividing line: the age of grace gives way to the manifestation of justice.
Therefore, vigilance is not fear—it is facing reality.
Conclusion: Where Do You Stand?
May we restore reverence while grace remains available to us, persevere in worship amidst turmoil, and stand firm under pressure, for the end of history is not chaos, but God's glory.
