Leviticus 8: How God Prepares His Servants
GK611 Morning Devotion 10.07.2026 Speaker: Rev David Tan Introduction: Why is it that capable people are not necessarily able to undertake important tasks? I. God Calls and Sets Apart His Servants (Leviticus 8:1–13) 1. God Personally Chooses His Servants (v1–5) God instructed Moses to appoint Aaron and his sons as priests and gathered the whole congregation to witness the occasion. The office of priest was not a position that anyone could claim for themselves; it was a calling personally chosen and publicly established by God. Serving God always begins with God's call, not with human enthusiasm. Today, every ministry is a trust committed to us by God. We should respond to His calling with humility rather than seeking human recognition or status. 2. God Purifies and Equips His Servants (v6–13) Moses washed Aaron, clothed him in the sacred garments, and anointed both the priests and the Tabernacle with the anointing oil, setting them apart as holy. The washing symbolizes a renewed life; the priestly garments represent a new identity; and the anointing oil signifies the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit. God shapes our character before entrusting us with His mission. God values our character more than our abilities. May we allow Him to cleanse and renew us daily, and rely on the Holy Spirit to equip us as vessels fit for His use. God never calls us to serve with our old nature. Ministry is not about bringing our old life into the church, but about allowing God to continually transform our lives. II. God Purifies His Servants Through Sacrifice (Leviticus 8:14–21) 1. Removing Sin through the Sin Offering (v14–17) Before Aaron could begin his ministry, he first had to offer a sin offering because even the priest was a sinner. Only when sin is forgiven can our relationship with God be restored, providing the proper foundation for service. No matter how long we have served, we must continually come before God in confession and repentance. True power comes not from experience but from maintaining a pure and right relationship with God. 2. Total Dedication through the Burnt Offering (v18–21) The burnt offering is entirely consumed as an offering to God, symbolising the unreserved surrender of ourselves. God not only forgives our sins, but also calls us to dedicate our entire lives to Him. True dedication is more than giving our time or money. It means surrendering the lordship of our lives to God each day and allowing Him to guide every decision we make. God desires not merely a part of us, but our whole lives. III. God Establishes Faithful and Obedient Priests (Leviticus 8:22–36) 1. Ordination: The Whole Person Belongs to God (v22–30) During the ordination ceremony, blood from the sacrifice was applied to the priests' ears, hands, and feet. This symbolized ears that listen to God's Word, hands that carry out God's work, and feet that walk in God's ways. Every aspect of a priest's life was consecrated to God. Today, we too are spiritual priests. May our thoughts, words, work, and daily lives become a testimony that brings glory to God. 2. Seven Days of Waiting: Learning Complete Obedience (v31–36) Aaron and his sons were instructed to remain in the Tabernacle for seven days without leaving, carefully obeying everything God had commanded. The seven days symbolize completeness and remind us that God values obedience and waiting more than rushing into action. Spiritual maturity takes time to develop. God often uses seasons of waiting, discipline, and obedience to prepare us for greater responsibilities. A mature servant is not merely someone who can carry out tasks, but one who is willing to wait patiently upon God. Conclusion: Called → Sanctified → Committed The people God uses are not merely those who are called, but those who are sanctified, wholly devoted, and who are faithful and obedient. Three Key Steps: • Called — God personally chooses His servants. • Sanctified — God cleanses and sets them apart as holy. • Committed — God requires wholehearted obedience and faithfulness.
