1 Corinthians 2: The Wisdom from God
GK611 Morning Devotion 06/08/2025 The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Stella Introduction: God’s wisdom does not come from human intelligence, but through divine revelation and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. I. Demonstrated in the Power of the Spirit (1 Cor 2:1–5) 1. Laying Down Boastful Words (v1–3) When Paul preached the gospel, he didn’t rely on eloquence or rigorous logic, but in a humble and weak attitude, lifting up Jesus and His cross. He knew deeply that what changes hearts is not oratory skill, but the truth and power of Jesus Himself. For us today, evangelism is not about being a great speaker, but about faithfully sharing Jesus. 2. Manifesting the Work of the Spirit (v4) Paul’s message wasn’t captivating due to his persuasive speech, but because people genuinely experienced the power of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit’s work may involve signs and wonders, but more often, it’s seen in a heart of repentance, restored relationships, and transformed lives. God is looking for people who are willing to be used—not perfect people. 3. Building Faith on a Firm Foundation (v5) Paul deliberately chose not to rely on human wisdom, so that people’s faith would not rest on human performance, but on the power of God. Today, we must also ask ourselves: is our faith built on spiritual reality or merely on human charisma or the emotions of a gathering? II. Revealed through God’s Mystery (1 Cor 2:6–10) 1. Hidden Wisdom Surpasses Human Intelligence (v6–7) This wisdom is not worldly knowledge, but heavenly truth prepared by God for those who are humble and spiritually mature. To the world, this kind of wisdom seems “foolish,” but it carries true spiritual power. Walking the path of the cross may appear weak, but it is the true power of God. 2. God Reveals Heavenly Mysteries through the Spirit (v8–10) Just as only a person knows their own thoughts, only God’s Spirit knows the thoughts of God. The Holy Spirit dwells in believers, guiding us to understand the things of God. He "explains spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words," meaning we must learn to view life and decisions with spiritual discernment, not just by feelings or logic. Therefore, choosing to draw near to God and listen to the Spirit is key to receiving God’s wisdom. III. Understood through Spiritual Life (1 Cor 2:11–16) 1. The Holy Spirit Enables Us to Understand God’s Truth (v11–13) Only the Spirit understands the mind of God, and the Spirit lives in us, helping us understand the things of God.The Spirit "explains spiritual truths with spiritual words." Thus, in daily life, we must stay sensitive to the Spirit’s leading and respond spiritually at critical moments. 2. The Spiritual Person Has the Mind of Christ (v14–16) The person without the Spirit cannot accept the things that come from God; they seem foolish to them. But the spiritual person has the mind of Christ, seeing everything from God’s perspective. Having “the mind of Christ” does not mean being all-knowing, but being willing to obey the Spirit and live like Jesus. The spiritual person chooses to forgive when misunderstood, trusts God under pressure, and holds on to holiness in chaos. Conclusion: 1 Corinthians 2 reminds us that true spiritual wisdom does not come from the mind, but is lived out through a spiritual life: 1. We share the gospel not by eloquence, but by the Holy Spirit. 2. We understand God’s will not through logic, but through revelation. 3. We discern life’s direction not by feelings, but by a spiritual life.
