1 Corinthians 13: The Truth of Love
1 Corinthians 15: The Truth of the Resurrection GK611 Morning Devotion 28/08/2025 Speaker: Ps Daniel I. The Resurrection Is Real, Not Just a Comfort (1 Cor. 15:1–11) 1. Scripture Foretold Christ’s Resurrection (V1–4) Paul emphasized that the message he preached wss the pure “gospel” he received from God: the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. These events happened “according to the Scriptures,” fulfilling Old Testament prophecies (e.g., Psalm 16:10, Isaiah 53), showing that this was entirely part of God’s redemptive plan. The core truth of the gospel is that Jesus died for us and also resurrected for us. 2. The Resurrection Was Eyewitnessed by Many (V5–11) After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to Peter, the twelve apostles, over five hundred believers, James, and Paul. The resurrection of Christ was witnessed by “more than five hundred people” firsthand—if it were a hoax or illusion, it could not stand. Our faith is not “psychological comfort” but is built on real, historical fact! II. Without the Promise of Resurrection, There Is No Hope (1 Cor. 15:12–34) 1. Without Resurrection, Faith Is in Vain (V12–19) Paul said that if the dead were not raised, then Christ was not resurrected, and if Christ was not raised, their preaching would be useless, and their faith was futile. 2. Jesus’ Resurrection Makes Hope Real (V20–28) Paul said that Christ had indeed been raised, the “firstfruits of those who had fallen asleep.” This means Jesus’ resurrection foreshadows our future resurrection. Death is not the end—it is the enemy defeated by Christ. The Christian’s final destination is not the grave but the eternal kingdom! 3. True Belief in the Resurrection Calls for Serious Living (V29–34) Paul explained that if the dead were not raised, people would say, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.” But because there is resurrection, we cannot live carelessly or indulge in sinful pleasures. Instead, we must live holy, watchful, purposeful lives, seriously living for the Lord! III. Death Is a Seed, Not the End (1 Cor. 15:35–49) 1. The Old Body Is Sown, the New Body Emerges (V35–41) Paul replied by using the illustration of a seed: when you plant a grain of wheat, it does not grow up as it was, but it “dies” in the ground and then breaks through into a completely new and more glorious form. In the same way, our present body will be buried, but in the resurrection, it will be transformed into something new. 2. From Perishable in Adam to Glorious in Christ (V42–49) Paul pointed to a key truth: humanity has two representatives, each bringing a different kind of life and body. The first Adam was “of the dust,” bound by sin, bringing death into humanity—so we now live in perishable bodies. But the resurrected body will be like Christ’s—glorious, imperishable, and free from pain. IV. The Resurrection Brings Hope and Reunion (1 Cor. 15:50–58) 1. Changed in an Instant at the Sound of the Trumpet (V50–53) The Bible says that at the sound of the trumpet, we will be changed, putting on an imperishable body. 2. Jesus’ Victory, Death’s Defeat (V54–57) Paul declares that death, the last enemy, will be “swallowed up” in victory—completely defeated and abolished! In Christ, Jesus has already conquered death. 3. Labor in the Lord Is Not in Vain (v. 58) Paul concludes: “Your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” This means that because there is resurrection, everything we do on earth—our service, tears, and good works—has eternal value. Conclusion: Death reminds us that life is short; the resurrection reminds us that hope is eternal. Live today for the eternal kingdom, so that we may all receive the promise of resurrection and one day share in glory with our loved ones and with Christ!
