2 Corinthians 10: Courage for the Lord GK611 Morning Devotion 17/09/2025 Speaker: Ps Stella Ling Introduction: What Is True Courage? In 2 Corinthians 10, Paul faces attacks and misunderstandings and shows a different kind of courage—not showing off, not arrogance, but holding fast to truth, submitting to Christ, and seeking only God’s glory. I. Courage to Fight for the Lord (2 Cor 10:1–6) 1. With Christ’s Gentleness (v1–3) Paul urges with the gentleness and peace of Christ. This is very different from what we imagine as “battle.” We often think courage means being tough and loud, but Paul reminds us that true spiritual courage is strength under control. He meets criticism and misunderstanding with Christlike meekness. Whether in family, workplace, or church, courage is not the hardest words but a gentle heart that holds to truth. 2. Relying on God’s Power (v4–6) Paul stresses that his warfare is not waged by human strength but by God’s power. The “strongholds” are proud thoughts and arguments against God. By God’s power, minds are brought captive to Christ. Spiritual courage is not eloquence or outward force, but the Spirit’s work tearing down inner idols. We show courage as we pray, confront fear, pride, and bitterness with truth, and bring every thought under Christ’s rule. II. Courage to Witness for the Lord (2 Cor 10:7–14) 1. Seeing Spiritual Reality (v7–8) Courage is also lived out in testimony. The Corinthians judged Paul’s plain appearance and simple speech and looked down on him. Paul reminds them that real authority is found in belonging to Christ. Even today the church can be drawn to externals and forget the main thing: being Christ’s own. Courageous witness is not outward polish but an authentic life. 2. Confirming the Message by Life (v9–11) Paul explains that his firm words are not to intimidate but to build up in love. His gentleness is not weakness but a courageous choice. True witness is not pressing people with words but proving the message by life. The church most needs not just speakers but doers—those who give in the family, stand for integrity at work, and serve faithfully in church. 3. Serving within God’s Measure (v12–14) Paul refuses to compete or compare. He will labor only within the field God assigned, bringing the gospel to the Gentiles, including Corinth. Courage means being faithful to the task God gives, not measuring ministry size or gifts against others. Stay faithful where God has placed you and you will be a brave witness. III. Courage to Glorify the Lord (2 Cor 10:15–18) 1. Boasting Only in the Lord (v15–17) Paul lifts courage to the level of glory. Quoting Jeremiah, he says true boasting is not in ministry size or personal achievement but in knowing and honoring God. False apostles flaunt themselves; Paul courageously rejects spiritual vanity and desires only Christ to be glorified. 2. Seeking the Lord’s Approval (v18) A courageous person rejects self-centered glory, acknowledges that all fruit comes from God, and gives Him all praise. Human applause fades, misunderstandings pass, but God’s approval lasts forever. True courage seeks His commendation, not people’s praise. Conclusion: Courage for the Lord Real courage is not “I can,” but “God can”; not “people see,” but “the Lord is pleased.” May we all be courageous for the Lord—faithful in family, workplace, and church—so that when we meet Him we will hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
