Acts 10: The Door of the Gospel Opens to All NationsGK611 Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Stella Ling 20 May 2026 Introduction: God’s Time Has Come I. God Prepares Open Hearts (Acts 10:1–16) 1. The Preparation of a Gentile (vv.1–8) Cornelius was a centurion in the Roman army. He was a Gentile, yet the Bible describes him as a devout man who feared God with all his household, prayed continually, and gave generously to those in need. He had a sincere heart that was seeking after God. God saw his prayers and acts of charity, so He sent an angel to instruct him to send for Peter. A heart prepared by God is willing to respond to His guidance and take action in seeking the truth. 2. Breaking Old Mindsets (vv.9–12) While Cornelius’ servants were traveling to Joppa, Peter was praying on the rooftop. He saw a vision of a large sheet descending from heaven, filled with all kinds of animals, reptiles, and birds. A voice said to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” But Peter refused. From childhood, Peter had been taught to obey the dietary laws, distinguishing between clean and unclean foods. This vision challenged his deeply rooted beliefs. Yet God wanted to break the limitations in Peter’s heart — the traditions and prejudices he had long accepted as normal and unquestionable. 3. Obeying the Leading of the Holy Spirit (vv.13–16) God replied, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” The vision was repeated three times, showing God’s patience with Peter. Today, God also asks us: what mindsets in our hearts need to be broken? Do we hold prejudice against certain people or groups? Do we think some people are unworthy of hearing the gospel? God wants to enlarge our vision so we can see that the gospel is for all nations. II. A Meeting That Crossed Barriers (Acts 10:17–33) 1. The Holy Spirit Gives Clear Direction (vv.17–23) While Peter was still wondering about the meaning of the vision, the Holy Spirit clearly said to him, “Three men are looking for you. Rise and go down and go with them without hesitation, because I have sent them.” The Holy Spirit did not leave Peter to figure things out on his own. He guided him step by step. When we are willing to obey the leading of the Holy Spirit, God will also lead us one step at a time. 2. Crossing Human Barriers (vv.24–29) Peter welcomed the men sent by Cornelius and traveled to Caesarea the next day. There he openly acknowledged, “You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with or visit anyone of another nation; but God has shown me that I should not call any person common or unclean.” Peter’s obedience was not hidden or secretive — it was public. He was not afraid of people’s opinions; he simply obeyed God’s leading. Today, we need that same kind of courage. 3. A People Prepared to Hear the Word (vv.30–33) Cornelius had already gathered his relatives and close friends together to wait for Peter. He said to him, “Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord.” This was a truly prepared heart. They were not gathering for a meal or casual conversation, but with sincere seriousness to hear the Word of God. III. Salvation for All Nations (Acts 10:34–48) 1. God Shows No Partiality (vv.34–35) Peter began by saying, “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears Him and does what is right is acceptable to Him.” Peter’s words “Truly I understand” show that this was not something he fully knew before. Through the vision, the Spirit’s guidance, and the entire experience, he finally understood. God’s heart is far broader than we often imagine. 2. Proclaiming the Gospel of Christ (vv.36–43) The heart of Peter’s message remained Jesus Christ: He is Lord of all. He went about doing good. He was crucified. He rose again on the third day. He will judge the living and the dead. Everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name. The message of the gospel did not change. What changed was the group receiving it. Peter now openly declared, “everyone who believes in Him,” including every Gentile present there. 3. The Gentiles Receive the Holy Spirit (vv.44–48) While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the message. The believers who came with Peter were astonished because the gift of the Holy Spirit had also been poured out on the Gentiles. They heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said, “Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” This was one of the most significant moments in church history — God Himself publicly accepted the Gentiles. Conclusion: The Door of the Gospel Is Still Open May we be like Cornelius, sincerely seeking God. May we be like Peter, willing to obey God and cross barriers. And may we, like the early church, welcome everyone whom God welcomes. The door of the gospel is still open today. May we not only enter it ourselves, but also lead others to enter in.
