Mark Chapter13: Standing Firm Amidst the Shaking—Bearing Fruit in Christ
GK611 Morning Devotion 06.01.2026 Speaker: Rev David Tan Introduction:Are you connected to that Tree of Life which cannot be shaken? I. The Temple Shall Fall, but Christ Stands Forever (13:1-4) When the disciples marvelled at the magnificence of the temple, Jesus foretold its future: “Not one stone shall be left upon another.” This reveals that the religion and systems people rely on will eventually pass away. The temple symbolized what people perceived as “stability, security, and God’s presence.” Yet a physical temple does not fully represent the God behind the temple, just as the kingdom of God is not equal to magnificent buildings. What God desires is life and true worship. From the disciples' perspective, their concern was ‘When will these things happen?’ Human nature inclines to ask about timing, yet the Lord calls us to prepare our lives. God will shake all that can be shaken to reveal what cannot be shaken. This is precisely the prophetic revelation received by 611 in 2026! II. The Whole Earth Shakes, the Kingdom of God Stands Firm (13:5-13) 1. Deception is More Dangerous than Disaster (V5-6) The greatest danger in the last days is not worldly calamities, but the deception of hearts. The Lord warns: ‘Take heed that no one deceives you.’ No disaster is greater than the promise of eternal life in God’s kingdom. But once the human heart is deceived, life collapses and cannot stand! 2. Calamity Is Not the End (V7-8) The wars and rumours of wars foretold in Scripture have already been fulfilled in this age and will intensify. Yet these calamities are merely the beginning of sorrows! This marks the onset of ‘birth pains.’ Suffering does not signify ‘God's failure,’ but is part of His plan. The hope of these ‘birth pains’ lies in the outcome that follows! 3. Persecution Becomes Testimony (V9-13) In the last days, many natural disasters will be compounded by human-made calamities! This is an extreme test of faith: salvation is not momentary fervour, but enduring faithfulness. Disciples will face persecution and hatred. The Lord reminds us that only those who ‘endure to the end shall be saved’! The end-time call is not for the clever, but for the faithful and steadfast. Know this: though the whole earth may shake, the kingdom of God shall never be shaken! III. Disaster and Deception: The Elect Must Stay Awake (13:14-23) 1. Learn to Discern the Times (v14-16) When false authority enters the place of the “holy”—when religion, politics, or ideology replaces God, the true elect are not called to “confront” but to “withdraw,” not to occupy the temple but to preserve life and hold fast to faith. Do not look back, symbolising no attachment to the old world. The rooftop, the field, and the cloak symbolise security and identity. Jesus is not inciting panic but teaching us to ‘discern the times.’ 2. Learn to Stand in the Truth (V17-23) Spiritual blasphemy brings true destruction. This is not merely a political event but a spiritual crisis. Know that God still reigns, and calamity has its ‘limits.’ ‘And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved’. God is always gracious. Signs and wonders are not equal to truth; truth comes from Christ's words, not wonders. It is not visible miracles that preserve people, but hearts that hold fast to truth. IV. The Coming of the Son of Man, the Moment of Glory (13:24-27) History is not chaos; it is moving toward a conclusion. Jesus is not a victim, but the glorious King. The elect will be gathered, and God’s promises will not fail. The world is shaken, but God’s people are gathered. The Lord’s return will be a moment of glory. The grand finale of the human story. Is this not what all who believe in the Lord long for? V. The Fig Tree Reveals the Lord’s Intention (13:28–31) Learn to discern the seasons from the fig tree. “This generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.” God wants us to discern the times, not to guess dates. God’s word is more reliable than heaven and earth. “This generation” also refers to the unbelieving generation that will face judgment. Heaven and earth will pass away, but God’s word will remain nchanged. God’s children must observe the times and understand the Lord’s ultimate purpose. VI. Watchful Prayer and Responding to the Call (13:32-37) No one knows the day; servants await their master’s return. Thus the Lord admonishes: “Watch!” Not knowing the date is God’s grace, allowing us to live each day in readiness. Watchfulness is not anxiety but faithfulness— each fulfilling their role and duty. Faith is not end-times knowledge, but daily obedience. Those truly prepared for the Lord’s return are not those who watch the signs in the sky, but those who faithfully work and live for the Lord. This is God’s call to His children! Conclusion: Waiting for the Unshakable Kingdom When the world’s temples collapse, nations are shaken, and deception runs rampant, God calls a watchful people—an elect who stand firm with perseverance, wait amid the shaking, remain faithful without knowing the date, until the Son of Man comes in glory.
