Revelation 6: When the Seals Are Opened — Judgment Is Drawing Near
GK611 Morning Devotion 11.02.2026 Speaker: Ps Stella Ling Introduction:True hope is not found in the world, but in the Lamb who sits on the throne. I. The Four Horsemen (Rev.6:1–8) 1. The White Horse (vv. 1–2) — Conquest and Aggression The rider on the white horse appears victorious, wearing a crown and going out to conquer. Yet this “victory” is not a triumph from God; it is a form of human success built on aggression and oppression. The world often celebrates such “winners” while ignoring the destruction they bring. The scripture reminds us that victory without God is often merely the beginning of disaster. 2. The Red Horse (vv. 3–4) — War and Conflict The red horse takes peace from the earth, causing people to kill one another. War does not occur only between nations; it also exists between individuals, within families, societies, and even church relationships. Hatred, rivalry, and division reveal that humanity has lost true peace. Apart from the Lord who gives peace, there can be no genuine peace in the world. 3. The Black Horse (vv. 5–6) — Famine and Scarcity The black horse brings famine and economic imbalance. Prices soar, resources are unjustly distributed, and many toil endlessly yet still lack what they need. This scene exposes human greed and injustice and reminds us that material things cannot satisfy the human heart. Only God is our true provider. 4. The Pale Horse (vv. 7–8) — Death and Authority The pale horse represents death, with Hades following close behind. War, famine, and plague ultimately lead to death. Yet the Scripture makes it clear that this authority is permitted by God and is limited. Death is not the final ruler, for Christ has already overcome death. This calls us to face the brevity of life and to reflect on our eternal destiny. Summary:The four horsemen portray a world that has turned away from God and is heading toward chaos. Yet all of this remains under God’s sovereign control, for the seals are opened by the Lamb Himself. II. The Cry of the Martyrs (Rev.6: 9–11) When the fifth seal is opened, John sees the souls of those martyred for the word of God beneath the altar. They cry out for justice, asking, “How long?” This is not a cry for revenge, but a longing for God’s righteousness. God gives them white robes, signifying acceptance and affirmation, and tells them to wait a little longer until His plan is fulfilled. This assures us that God has not forgotten those who suffer for Him. His judgment unfolds in His time, marked by great patience and mercy. III. Worldwide Upheaval (Rev.12–17) 1. Cosmic Disturbances (vv. 12–14) With the opening of the sixth seal, the earth shakes, the sun and moon lose their light, and mountains and islands are moved. Creation itself responds to God’s judgment, signaling the end of the old order. The “groaning” of creation reminds humanity that this world is not eternally secure. 2. Human Despair (vv. 15–17) In the face of judgment, all earthly powers—kings, the wealthy, and the strong—are equally terrified and hide themselves. The things humanity relies on—power, wealth, and ability—are utterly powerless before God. The passage ends with a crucial question: “Who can stand?” The answer is revealed in chapter 7: only those who trust in the Lamb will be able to stand. Summary:This is a judgment that encompasses the whole earth, from which no one can escape by their own strength. Humanity finally realizes that the One truly to be feared is God. Conclusion: Revelation chapter 6 shows us the true direction of the world and exposes the deep needs of the human heart. The four horsemen remind us that the world has no ultimate peace. The cry of the martyrs assures us that God will bring justice. The shaking of heaven and earth declares that judgment is surely coming. Yet the Lamb has already won the victory. The seals are opened, judgment is drawing near, but all who trust in the Lamb will be able to stand on that day. May we remain steadfast in following Him in these turbulent times, until the Lord returns.
