Revelation 9: Becoming Those Who Have the ‘God's Sealed on Forehead’
GK611 Morning Devotion 20.02.2026 Speaker: Ps Daniel Kew I. God Releases Torments from the Abyss (Rev 9:1-12) 1. The Master Who Bestows the Keys (v1-2) John witnessed a “star” falling and being “given” the keys to the Abyss. This signifies that judgment is not accidental calamity, but a permitted spiritual act occurring within God’s sovereignty. In modern life, when we witness global turmoil and the apparent ascendancy of evil, let us not panic. Remember: even the keys held by satan were also ‘given’ by God. God remains in control; our lives rest not in luck, but in His hands. 2. The Torment Brought by the Locusts (V3-12) These “locusts” are not agricultural pests, but monstrous beings—part human, part beast—with teeth like lions. They do not destroy vegetation, but torment those who do not have God’s seal. The most terrifying part is this: “they will seek death and will not find it.” This symbolizes an extreme spiritual and mental emptiness and agony. Do not wait until disaster strikes to realize the poverty within your soul. In times of peace, build a deeper relationship with God. Let your spiritual life be rooted and grounded, so that in moments of inner emptiness, you will not be left without hope to live, yet unable to die. II. God Sounds the Final Warning (Rev 9:13-19) 1. Precisely Ordained Judgement (v13-16) The sixth trumpet sounded, releasing the four angels at the Euphrates River, revealing judgement as God’s precise decree. Two hundred million horsemen appeared, symbolising global upheaval. Therefore, treasure the present moment; do not postpone spiritual pursuits until tomorrow. The uncertainty of the future compels us to make the right choices today. 2. The Fraction of One-Third (v17–19) The horses spewed fire, smoke, and brimstone, slaying one-third of mankind. The ‘one-third’ in Revelation represents a proportion sealed by mercy—though the judgment is severe, God reserves two-thirds for those who may yet repent. When the world is in turmoil and calamities abound, we must ask: What is God saying to me? Perhaps He is clearing away the perishable debris in our lives, drawing our attention to eternal matters. III. Humanity Persists in Wickedness Without Repentance (Rev 9:20-21) 1. The Blindness of Unrepentant Refusal (V20) The Scripture states that those surviving the plagues “still did not repent”. They continued worshipping idols that “cannot see, hear, or walk”. This reveals humanity's blindness: even when evidence is undeniable, those whose hearts are dead remain blind to truth. Examine what you value most deeply. If it fails to bring true peace in crisis, it is the idol dragging you down. 2. The Core of Sin is Unrepentance (V21) Here the emphasis is repeated: they did not repent. After the calamity, they continued in murder, sorcery, sexual immorality, and theft. Thus, the focus is not merely their sinning, but their continued refusal to repent. This is the heaviest statement in chapter 9! True repentance signifies a reversal of direction. We cannot simultaneously seek God's protection while pursuing defilement in our daily lives. Those bearing the seal on their foreheads will inevitably bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Conclusion Though Revelation 9 filled with fire and smoke, it ultimately issues a call: Become those who have the seal on their foreheads. Disasters, judgments, and miracles cannot automatically transform a person. Only a heart willing to repent can receive that seal.
