Revelation 11 A Witness in the Midst of Shaking
GK611 Morning Devotion GK611 Morning Devotion 25.02.2026 Speaker: Ps Stella Ling Introduction: When the World Begins to Tremble I. The Numbered People (Rev 11:1–2) John was given a reed like a measuring rod and was told to measure the temple of God, the altar, and the worshipers there. In the Old Testament prophetic books, measuring often signifies ownership and protection. Through this act, God declares: “This is My inheritance, and I will draw a boundary of protection around it.” What great comfort this is to persecuted believers—when the world seeks to erase the church, the heavenly Father declares that He has personally numbered His people; we are all in His hands. He not only knows how long the storm will last, but also when it must cease. Therefore, the numbered people are not only marked out by God in space, but also held by Him in time. II. Persevering in the Mission of Witnessing (Rev 11:3–13) 1. The Commissioned Witnesses (v3–6) “I will appoint My two witnesses”—the calling to bear witness begins with God’s sovereignty. They are clothed in sackcloth, symbolizing identity with prophetic sorrow and repentance; their very lifestyle is itself a message. They are described as “two olive trees” and “two lampstands,” indicating that they must continually receive the anointing oil of the Holy Spirit from God in order to keep shining. They possess authority like Elijah and Moses, symbolizing that God’s word, spoken through His servants, carries the power of both judgment and salvation. 2. The Witnesses in the Face of Persecution (v7–10) The passage emphasizes a key phrase: “When they have finished their testimony.” God’s timetable is always precise. The beast may kill the witnesses, but it cannot shorten the duration of their testimony. The beast represents the dark powers that oppose God. When the church shines faithfully, it will inevitably provoke backlash from the forces of darkness. After the witnesses are killed, their bodies are left in the streets, and the world rejoices over them. This reveals the world’s instinctive hostility toward truth—but their celebration will not last. 3. The Witnesses Raised and Exalted (v11–13) “After the three and a half days,” the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet. This parallels Christ’s resurrection, showing that what God’s children experience mirrors what their Head has experienced. It is the Creator’s absolute authority over death. They hear a loud voice from heaven saying, “Come up here,” and they ascend in a cloud. At that moment, a great earthquake occurs, and a tenth of the city collapses. Yet the most striking outcome is this: “The rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.” This is the ultimate purpose of witness—fear leading to the giving of glory to God. The resurrection is God’s own seal of vindication upon His servants. III. Proclaiming the Coming of God’s Kingdom (Rev 11: 14–19) Verse 14 reminds us that although we see the victory of the witnesses, the end of history has not yet fully arrived. We live in the tension of the “already but not yet.” When the seventh angel sounds his trumpet, loud voices in heaven proclaim: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ.” From God’s eternal perspective, Christ’s reign is already a settled reality. The twenty-four elders fall down in worship, offering thanksgiving, proclaiming God’s righteousness, and anticipating the ultimate reward for His faithful servants. Then the temple in heaven is opened, and the ark of the covenant is revealed—signifying that there is no longer any barrier between God and humanity. His presence will become the eternal inheritance of all the redeemed. Conclusion: Standing Firm in the midst of Shaking Revelation 11 shows us: The numbered people—measured and protected by God in an age that seems to be out of control. The persevering witness—though persecuted and even killed, ultimately raised and glorified. The proclaimed kingdom—the kingdoms of this world will become the kingdom of our Lord. Therefore, when the world trembles, do not be afraid. For we are the numbered people, commissioned witnesses, and heirs of an imperishable kingdom.
