I. See the Opponent Clearly — The End of the Great Red Dragon (Rev 12:1–8, 13–17)
1. The War in Heaven: The Dragon Is Cast Down (v.1–8)
John saw a vision: a woman clothed with the sun and with the moon under her feet (symbolizing God’s people) was about to give birth to a male child (referring to Jesus Christ). A great red dragon (Satan) stood ready to devour the child, but the child was caught up to God and to His throne. The dragon was defeated by the archangel Michael and thrown down to the earth.
Therefore, when your circumstances feel chaotic and family pressures mount, do not assume you are destined to fail. Remind yourself daily: “I am a child of God!” Live out of that identity. Show more patience at work, listen more at home, and extend a helping hand when your neighbor is in need. God can transform your “labor pains” into victory.
2. The Ongoing Battle on Earth: God Still Reigns (12:12–17)
After the dragon was cast to the earth, he angrily pursued the woman and the rest of her offspring. But God gave her “the two wings of a great eagle” to protect her in the wilderness, where He provided for her. The dragon spewed a flood of water to sweep her away, but the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the flood. God still reigns.
In the workplace, the dragon creates a “flood of fear” — the lie that if you don’t go with the flow, you’ll be eliminated.
In the family, the dragon creates an “emotional flood” — the thought that “since the other person is unreasonable, I might as well burst into anger too.”
When you feel like you’re about to be swallowed by the “flood,” remember that God can cause the earth to open and swallow it. Even in the wilderness, He still reigns and has already prepared a way of escape and provision for you.
II. Expose the Tactics — Satan’s “Day and Night Accusation” (12:9–10)
Satan is skilled at “deceiving the whole world.” He is also the “accuser” — accusing before God and in our hearts day and night. But the very fact that he constantly accuses shows that without God’s permission, he cannot touch us. So he uses lies to try to make us distance ourselves from God and damage our relationship with Him.
His greatest aim is to paralyze us with guilt. A person trapped in self-condemnation has no fighting power. So don’t fall for it.
III. Receive the Weapons — The Key to Overcoming (12:11)
1. The Blood of the Lamb — Removing Guilt
The blood of the Lamb brings forgiveness and salvation. It shifts our focus from our failures to Christ’s redemption. Our worth does not change because of an accusation.
2. Living Out the Truth — Confronting Lies
“The word of their testimony” means living out the truth to counter the flood of lies spewed by the dragon. Even if we suffer short-term loss, we have already won in the spiritual realm. Our good testimony is the strongest counterattack.
3. Not Loving Our Lives — Sacrificial Love
Satan can only threaten those who are afraid of losing something. When we are willing to lay down ourselves, we become unstoppable. When we are no longer afraid of losing face or suffering loss, Satan has no hold on us.
When we put on these three weapons and step out from “guilt,” “lies,” and “selfishness,” our vision will be fully opened. We will see that the final outcome of this spiritual war has already been decided.
Conclusion: Satan’s Defeat Is Certain
See through Satan. Stand firm. Live in victory.
We are not fighting to obtain victory —we are fighting from a position of victory.
