Revelation 22: The Kingdom of God Will Be Completed: Seize the TimeGK611 Morning Devotion 17.03.2026 Speaker: Rev David Tan Introduction: In the journey of life We often ask: Where is the world heading? Does history have an end? Will suffering and injustice continue forever? Revelation 22 opens a window to these questions. It shows us the glorious picture of the final fulfillment of God’s Kingdom, and at simultaneously we hear an invitation that continues to echo —calling people to respond to Him today. Here we see both the ultimate hope and the present choice. I. The River of Life and the Tree of Life in the Ultimate Kingdom of God (22:1–5) 1. The River of the Water of Life (V1) This describes the most glorious and peaceful state of life in the new heaven and new earth. John saw a river of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. It symbolizes the source of eternal life and the continual spiritual supply that flows from God. It brings complete renewal, healing, and satisfaction. It shows that in God’s Kingdom believers will no longer experience thirst or lack, but will live forever in the flow of His presence and blessing. 🔵 Connect to the Almighty source—allow your life to be continually renewed and transformed—and become a blessing to others. 2. The Fruit of the Tree of Life (V2a) The tree of life from the Garden of Eden appears again. What Adam and Eve once missed, we will partake of—the fruit of eternal life. The tree bears twelve kinds of fruit, yielding fruit every month. This shows that God’s provision is complete, abundant and unceasing;.and these are the fullness of life for His people. 🔵 Stay connected to the source of life so that your life continues to grow, bear fruit, bringing healing and blessing to others. 3. The Leaves for the Healing of the Nations (V2b) In the life system of a tree, leaves play an important role: producing nutrients, regulating water, and sustaining growth. They symbolize ongoing vitality and renewal. In human experience, leaves are also associated with shade, comfort, and even medicinal uses, naturally pointing to healing and restoration. Thus, when the Bible says “the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations,” it portrays a spiritual reality in God’s Kingdom: God’s life continually supplies and renews, restoring all that was broken dur to sins and bringing wholeness, peace, and the abundance of eternal life. 🔵 Allow God’s life to continually renew you so that your life can bring comfort, support and healing to others. 4. No More Curse (V3) The throne of God and the Lamb will be in the city, signifying that God’s sovereignty and presence are the eternal center. Believers will no longer be distant from God, but will joyfully serve Him in His glorious presence. This service will not be a burden but an act of love and fulfillment in worship, symbolizing the complete restoration of humanity’s relationship with God and entry into eternal peace and glory. 🔵 Make God the center of your life. Serve willingly in His presence, allowing service to become a joy rather than burden. 5. His Name on Their Foreheads – Reigning with Him (vv.4–5) God’s name written on our foreheads signifies our special identity as His people. There will no longer be night or any lack, for God Himself will be the eternal light. Believers will share in His royal honor, reigning with Him and enjoying eternal, peaceful and abundant life. This picture reveals the ultimate fulfillment of redemption—from the life lost in Eden to the fully restored and glorified life in God’s Kingdom. 🔵 Live out your identity as God’s people. Let His light guide your life and influence the world with a victorious life. II. Seize the Time: The Lord Is Coming Soon and the Warning of Prophecy (22:6–11) 1. God’s Word Is True and the Lord’s Return Is Near (V6) The revelation comes from the Spirit of God and will surely be fulfilled. The repeated declaration “I am coming soon” calls believers to live with alertness and faith, taking God’s promises and judgments seriously. Therefore we must treat God’s Word with faith, remain watchful and live faithfully each day. 2. Blessed Are Those Who Keep the Prophecy; Worship Belongs to God (V7–9) True blessing does not come merely from hearing or studying prophecy, but from obeying God’s Word. John was also reminded not to worship angels, showing that worship and glory belong to God alone. Live out God’s Word and honor Him as Lord in every aspect of life. 3. Life’s Choices Lead to Eternal Destiny (V10–11) “Let the evildoer still do evil… and the righteous still do right.” This reveals that one's life direction will ultimately be made clear. It is a critical time right now for repentance and pursuit of holiness, preparing to meet the Lord when He returns. III. Receive Rewards and Enter the Eternal Holy City (22:12–15) 1. The Lord’s Return Brings Just Reward (V12) The Lord’s return is certain and near. He will reward each person according to their life and deeds. Therefore we should live daily with reverence and faithfulness as we prepare to meet Him. 2. Christ Is the Eternal Lord of History (V13) “Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last” shows that Christ rules over all things and the whole course of history. Every ending is in His hands, giving believers a firm and unshakable hope. 3. The Cleansed Ones Have the Right to Eternal Life (V14) “Washing their robes” symbolizes forgiveness through Christ and living a holy life. Such people enjoy the blessing of the tree of life and enter the holy city, dwelling with God forever. The true blessing belongs to those who are cleansed by Christ and continue to live a holy life, reminding us to walk daily in repentance and renewal. 4. Those Who Reject God Will Ultimately Be Rejected (V15) “Outside the city” does not mean sinners still exist in the eternal kingdom, but symbolically describes those who lose God’s presence permanently. All who belong to God will enter the holy city and enjoy eternal life, while those who continually reject Him are excluded. This highlights the final spiritual separation determined by the direction of one’s life. IV. The Final Invitation of Salvation to All People (22:16–21) 1. Jesus Personally Testifies to the Truth of This Revelation (V16) Jesus Himself bears witness to the churches with authority. He is the Root of David—the source of all things and the Messiah; the Descendant of David—entering history to accomplish salvation; and the Bright Morning Star—announcing that the night is ending and a new day is dawning. 2. The Final Invitation of Salvation (V17) The Spirit and the church together say, “Come!” The door of life remains open. Whoever thirsts may come freely and receive the water of life. This is both an invitation and a mission for believers—to respond personally and to invite others to come. 3. The Absolute Authority of God’s Word (V18–19) God’s revelation is complete and holy; it must not be added to or taken away from. Believers are called to receive it with reverence and faithfully hold to the truth. Our attitude toward God’s Word affects our relationship with Him and our eternal destiny. 4. The Hope of the Lord’s Return and the Church’s Response (V20–21) “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The book ends with hope and blessing: the Lord promises His return, stirring believers to watch and long for Him, while the final blessing reminds us that we live not by our strength but by the continuous grace of Jesus Christ. Conclusion: The Grand Journey of Life If the whole Bible is seen as a grand journey, Revelation 22 is the destination—and also a new beginning. Humanity lost life and God’s presence in Eden, traveling through sin, suffering, and hope. Here we finally see God’s Kingdom fully completed: the river of life flows, the tree of life bears fruit, night is gone, and humanity sees God face to face. Yet before the arrival of this glorious ending, the Scripture gives a gentle yet urgent call: “Come!” The eternal kingdom is prepared. The door of grace is still open. The Lord is coming soon, and each person must respond today. This is the message of Revelation 22: The Kingdom will be completed—seize the time.
