Colossians 1 Glorious ResultGK611 Morning Devotion 02/07/2025 The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps. Stella Introduction: Ice walls in the Alps I. A Strong Faith in the Lord (Col. 2:1-5) 1. Be united in one heart (v1-2) Paul prayed for the believers wholeheartedly, hoping that they would be united in love and have a strong faith. Moreover, he brought out all the spiritual mysteries and attributed them to knowing Christ. Therefore, the growth of the church is not only about the number of activities and the enthusiasm of worship, but more importantly, whether the brothers and sisters are truly "united in love". 2. Gain all wisdom (v3-5) True wisdom is ‘hidden in Christ’. And “following the rules” indicates that their faith does not rely on emotional fluctuations but is based on solid knowledge. Paul also reminds believers not to be deceived by “sweet words and flattering speeches”. Summary: Paul hopes that the faith of believers is built on the foundation of loving fellowship and truth. Moreover, true wisdom is not mystical experience but knowing and holding on to Christ. II. Beware of False Beliefs (Col. 2:6-15) 1. Rooted and built in the Lord (v6-7) Faith is a journey of ‘continuous walking’ in Christ. ‘Rooted and built up, established in faith, abounding in thanksgiving’ are all natural processes of spiritual growth. For us, reading the Bible, praying, and church life are all ways to ‘root and build’. If we do it regularly, we are allowing ourselves to grow in Christ. 2. Obtaining all the fullness of God (v8-15) Paul wants believers to be vigilant and not be taken captive by philosophy and false words. Because Christ has "all the fullness of God's nature", believers have been perfected in Him. Therefore, believers do not need to add any other methods to be saved. Summary: In this passage, Paul reminds us that we are already complete in Christ, and any additional conditions that supplement our faith are false. In addition, true freedom lies in trusting in Christ, not in religious rules or spiritual display. III. Hold fast to Christ, the Head (Col. 2:16-23) 1. Reject two kinds of falsehood (v16-19) If Christian faith departs from the "Christ-centred" belief, it will lean toward two extremes: one is legalism, and the other is mysticism. Paul's admonition is that we must not lose our "connection with the Head" because of "spiritual experience." 2. Break away from worldly rules (v20-23) Paul pointed out that those seemingly "godly" rules (do not touch, do not eat) are actually the source of spiritual pride. Therefore, Christian freedom is to break away from the bondage of rules, not indulgence, but to live in connection with Christ. Summary: In this passage, Paul exhorts believers in a very direct way: do not rely on behaviour to please God, nor rely on experience to prove spirituality. Only "holding the Head" is the true foundation of spiritual life. Conclusion: Return to the Head, Rooted in Christ Portrait of Christian life: 1. Rooted downwards - deeply planted in the words of Christ (Col. 3:16) 2. Strong on the outside - standing firm in the truth (1 Cor. 16:13) 3. Constantly renewed - taking off the old man and putting on the new man (Col. 3:9-10) May we return to the Head - Christ, hold on to Him, and not be deprived of the glorious reward。
