Introduction: Jesus Christ, the Son of God – He is our most glorious and honorable intercessor!

I. Glorified to Glorify God (John 17: 1–8)

1. The Glory of the Gospel of Eternal Life (v1–5)

The very first thing Jesus prays for is: "Father, glorify Your Son, that the Son also may glorify You!" What does it mean for Jesus to be glorified? It includes having authority over all the earth and the power to give eternal life to people—saving many and bringing them into the kingdom of heaven.

Now, isn’t this authority also given to us as God’s children? We are entrusted to steward the earth and share the gospel of eternal life accomplished by Christ. In doing so, we are indirectly granting people access to eternal life!

2. Receiving the Word and Sharing It with Others (v6–8)

Mankind, once captured by the devil through sin, has now received God's name and become children of God. We’ve received His Word and become witnesses of the Holy Word. We are to repeat what the Lord did—continue spreading His Word to others.

We have received glory from God—the passage mentions six times that “we are those whom God gave to the Son.” Therefore, live a glorious life that glorifies God.

II. Christ’s Intercession Will Surely Prevail (John 17: 9–17)

1. Recognizing Victory Through Belonging to God (v9–10)

We originally belong to God, and when we glorify God through His grace, Christ is also glorified through us. Wow—what a marvelous relationship! How amazing it is to have such a noble identity. We belong to Christ, Christ belongs to the Father, and Christ lives in us... Though we face battles, Jesus is victorious. So how can we not also overcome in Him?

2. Unity Among Believers Brings Victory (v11)

God desires that those who belong to Him be united—that’s His will. The power of unity is great, and it’s what God the Father longs to see. In God, nothing is impossible, but will people with free will choose to understand and obey? The answer varies for each person—what will your response be?

3. Joyful Victory Through Sanctification (v12–17)

Though we live in the world, we do not belong to it! Through God's Word, we overcome the temptations of the world and experience heavenly joy. This is the sanctification journey we are ultimately called to walk.

III. The Lord Sends You to Do His Work (John 17:18–26)

1. Sent to Sanctify the World (v18–19)

Just as Jesus was sent by the Father into the world, we are now sent by Jesus. Not only are we to enter the world, but ultimately, we are to set the world apart for Christ. This is the mission of every Christian.

2. Interceding for Unity (v20–23)

The ultimate goal of Jesus’ intercession is that His children would be one and understand His love. This is the final blueprint that is to be revealed!

3. Loved and Commissioned to Share His Love (v24–26)

Jesus’ prayer transcends time and space—He prays in front of the disciples, yet He comes from the eternal Father. He was loved before the foundation of the world. Through the name of God, that eternal love has now been passed to the disciples. Even as we read this scripture today, that same love rests upon us—and can be shared through us to those around us.

Conclusion: Glorious Unity

We become one family in Christ, sharing the same life. Ultimately, the church on earth—all who belong to Christ—will become one united Body of Christ, glorifying Jesus Christ together.
