Introduction:Personal Protection Order

1. God's protection through man (v1-17)

(1) Jonathan's Reconciliation (v1-7) When Saul openly stated that he wanted to kill David, Jonathan, as David's confidant, not only told David to hide, but he also stood up to his father Saul and spoke favourably of David. And he forcefully pointed out that his father's intention to kill David was an act of shedding innocent blood and taking his own sin before God. Saul also listened to Jonathan's admonition and swore not to kill David.

When a crisis arrives, God will raise up people to be our helpers in the necessary moments to save us from being devoured and killed by our enemies. Furthermore, we are to follow Jonathan's example and act as God's bridge of reconciliation when we see our brothers and sisters in conflict or when someone comes to you with a complaint about someone. It is to reconcile and restore relationships.

(2) Michal's blood and fleshly love (v11-16)

When David again defeated the Philistines again in another great defeat, Saul was again under the dominion of the devil. He sent men to spy on David at his house and threatened to kill him again. Michal, David's new wife, loved David so much that she disobeyed her father's order and let David down through the window; David was on the run. Although Michal loved her husband, she was a carnal person. She lied to Saul that David was sick by covering his bed with clothes and the idol of the house. When her father rebuked her, she lied again and again out of fear, which was actually inappropriate behaviour.

Brothers and sisters, do we compromise on the truth in order to love certain people? Or when under pressure or fear, do we lose our principles and make decisions that are not in accordance with the truth and are made out of blood and flesh?

(3) Samuel's spiritual covering (v17)

David was pursued by Saul and came to Samuel at Ramah. God through Samuel gave David spiritual covering as he fled. The Holy Spirit also personally protected David from Saul's pursuit. Spiritual covering is one of the protections that God gives to His children on earth.

2. Personal Protection through the Holy Spirit (v8-10, 19-24)

(1) Avoiding Demonic Attacks (v8-10)

David served Saul faithfully even though he knew that Saul wanted to kill him. Not only did he continue to destroy the Philistines, but when the demons came back upon Saul, David still wished to play the harp with his hands to deliver him. How could God not protect such a faithful and kind man? Because of God's protection, v10 Saul tried to pin David with his spear, but the spear went into the wall and was nailed to the wall and could not hurt David.

(2) The Holy Spirit puts enemies to shame (v19-24)

Saul was overwhelmed by his desire to kill David. Even though the 3 groups of men he had sent had been stopped by the Spirit of God from killing David, he still did not recognize who his opponent was? He went to Naioth himself, and as a result, not only was he also inspired to speak prophetically, but he also stripped himself and lay there naked for a day and a night, making a fool of himself.

When a person continually resists God's will, they end up with a self-inflicted self-humiliation. On the contrary, if we are God-fearing and walk in the will of God. Even if we are bullied and aggrieved. Just as the Spirit of God Himself saved David from his predicament, we must believe that the Holy Spirit will do justice for us and return justice to us.

Furthermore, Saul, who was full of envy, hatred and evil, was able to prophesy, so a very gifted person does not mean that his spiritual life is mature. But a mature life makes the gifts more fruitful. Therefore, we need to desire the gifts, but even more so, we need to pursue the life.

Conclusion: Choose to be protected by God

God has given a heavenly, 100% protection order to protect us. The key is to be 100% protected by God, we have to choose to align our lives with God. More than that, we have to be bridges like Jonathan and Samuel, so that God's protection order can be extended to those in need. Let those we love also have God's protection and no one can hurt them!
