2 Chronicles 11:Building Walls, Establishing God’s Kingdom, Guarding BoundariesGK611 Morning Devotion 16 October 2025 Speaker: Ps Daniel Kew I. Building Walls of Protection (2 Chr 11:1–12) 1. Obeying God’s “Cease Order” (V1–4) When Rehoboam first became king, he proudly rejected the people’s plea to lighten their burdens. As a result, the ten northern tribes rebelled. In anger, Rehoboam gathered an army of 180,000 men to reclaim the kingdom. But God sent a message through the prophet Shemaiah — a “cease order” — commanding him not to fight. Rehoboam chose obedience over pride, laying down his plans and abandoning the war. When we face setbacks or broken relationships, our first instinct is often: “I must fight to get it back!” Yet true faith is the willingness to stop and listen to God — not acting impulsively or in anger. This is the beginning of wisdom. 2. Building Strong “Fortified Cities” (V5–12) After obeying God’s “cease order,” Rehoboam turned his energy to building. He fortified cities throughout Judah, storing food, stationing troops, and securing the gates. When God asks us to “pause,” it is not failure but preparation. He is helping us rebuild our foundation. When life feels chaotic, start by rebuilding your spiritual foundation — through prayer, worship, Bible reading, and fellowship. These are the “walls of defense” that protect our lives. II. Establishing a Kingdom of True Worship (2 Chr 11:13–17) 1. The Faithful Who Fled from False Gods (V13–15) Jeroboam, ruler of the northern kingdom, built idols to replace the true God and expelled the priests and Levites. These faithful servants chose to leave their homes and inheritances, refusing to serve false gods. They paid a price, but they remained loyal — true-hearted worshippers. When we face tempting opportunities that seem “beneficial,” are we willing to give them up if they contradict God’s truth? 2. The Seekers Who Followed the True Light (V16–17) Not only the Levites but all those who sincerely sought the Lord left Israel and moved to Judah, where true worship continued. Their choice brought blessings — peace and prosperity for three years in the land. When we ourselves commit to follow God and live rightly, our lives become a testimony that attracts others to seek Him. In doing so, we bless not only ourselves but our whole community. III. Guarding Boundaries Within the Family (2 Chr 11:18–23) 1. Man-Made “Prosperity” (V18–21) Rehoboam married many wives and had numerous children, appearing prosperous and strong. Yet this was man-made prosperity that violated God’s holy boundary of monogamy. Like his father Solomon, he repeated the same mistake. Such blessing without God’s approval became the root of family strife and spiritual decline. True family happiness must be built upon God’s design. His boundaries are not restrictions but protection. “Happiness” gained by compromising truth is an illusion — it will not endure. 2. Practicing Shrewd “Administration” (V22–23) Rehoboam showed administrative skill by appointing an heir early, assigning territories to his sons, and providing resources to prevent internal conflict. Though his wisdom operated on a flawed foundation, these principles — when applied under God’s order — can be transformed into valuable lessons: establish biblical order in the family, guide children according to their gifts, and help future generations build Christ-centered, blessed homes. Conclusion: Blueprint for a Blessed Life - Stop striving in the flesh; build walls of spiritual protection. - Worship the true God wholeheartedly; become a shining witness of His kingdom. - Guard family boundaries and order; let blessings pass on to future generations.
