2 Chronicles Chapter 32: Faith and Humility to the Very EndGK611 Morning Devotion 21.11.2025 Speaker: Ps Asher Chang Introduction: Single-Mindedness I. Salvation Through Faithful Reliance (2 Chronicles 32:1–23) 1. Acknowledging God as Our Help (v1–8) Faith is perpetually tested, yet true faith does not fixate on circumstances but affirms God as helper. Hezekiah fulfilled his duty before formidable foes, yet his true strength stemmed from this declaration: ‘The One with us is greater than the one with them.’ This conviction is not mere sentiment; it is believing in God’s will, His presence, and His sovereignty even unto death. Trials may push us to the brink, but conviction enables us to cling to God, steady our hearts, and resist being overwhelmed by circumstances. Conviction makes God’s presence the greatest reality in our lives. 2. Persisting in God’s Faithfulness (v9–19) The Assyrian assault was not by sword but by word. Mockery, denial, logic, and reality all relentlessly sought to undermine faith in God. Others' incomprehension, their doubts, their attacks on God matter not. Our sole task is to hold fast to God's faithfulness. Hold fast to the truth that God never fails, He is never late, and He will accomplish what He has promised. To hold fast is to stand with God amidst the loudest clamour. To stand firm in God's faithfulness is the victory of faith. 3. Surrender to God's Sovereignty (v20–23) Prayer is not escape, but surrender; surrender is not giving up, but yielding to God's sovereignty. Hezekiah and Isaiah did not debate with Assyria, but cried out in prayer. God then sent an angel to overturn the entire course of the battle. True faith endures to the end. When you stand firm, pray, and entrust, God will act according to His will—not our way, but through His perfect purpose to accomplish salvation. II. Overconfidence Invites Disaster (2 Chronicles 32:24–31) 1. Ingratitude Breeds Pride (v24–26) Faith brings deliverance, yet overconfidence creates vulnerabilities. Hezekiah, healed from mortal sickness by God, responded not with gratitude but pride. Human imperfection lies here: we stumble not in adversity, but falter in prosperity through ingratitude. Yet Hezekiah humbled himself and repented—a quality God esteems. May we grow more humble in grace, lest self-assurance supplant true faith. 2. A Distracted Heart Sows the Seeds of Disaster (v27–31) Hezekiah attained great wealth and glory, yet pride caused him to lose vigilance. He mistook grace for his own achievement, attributing God’s blessings to his own merit. By boasting to Babylon about all he possessed, he sowed the seeds of future captivity. God withdrew to test his heart, revealing his distraction. We too must remain vigilant: it is not adversity that causes one to stumble, but losing one's heart amidst blessings. May we grow ever more humble in grace, never allowing self-assurance to supplant faith. Conclusion: Faith causes a person to exalt God; pride causes a person to exalt themselves. In his first half-life, single-minded devotion to faith brought him great deliverance; in his latter years, wavering confidence led him to sow seeds of ruin. He was imperfect, yet capable of repentance; he stumbled, yet was willing to turn back. God records both his faith and his weakness to remind us: victory is not measured by a single moment, but by a lifetime. May we persevere in faith to the end, persevere in humility to the end, remain grateful in prosperity, and avoid self-confidence in triumph, becoming those who walk in God's will throughout our lives.
