2 Chronicles 36:Everything Is in God's Hands
GK611 Morning Devotion 28 Nov 2025 Speaker: Ps Asher Chang Introduction: The Skill of Stacking Lego I. The Consequence of Wickedness Is Death (2 Chronicles 36:1–22) The Tragedy of Four Kings: 1. Jehoahaz (v1–4) Jehoahaz was “set up by the people,” not chosen by God. Within three months, Egypt deposed him and took him captive. His life teaches us: People can lift you up, and people can tear you down; only those established by God stand firm. Today we must ask: Does my present position come from God, or from human promotion? When the foundation is not in God, no height is secure. 2. Jehoiakim (v5–8) Jehoiakim not only did evil, but he tore up the scroll of the law God had given through Jeremiah. Openly despising God’s word. As a result, the first exile occurred, the temple vessels were plundered and the nation was humiliated. The spiritual principle is clear: rejecting God's word only binds us to the world. Today we may not tear the Bibles, but we practise “selective obedience.” God reminds us: His word is not for us to pick and choose, but to seize firmly. 3. Jehoiachin (v9–10) Young, helpless, and lacking foundation, Jehoiachin surrendered after just three months and ten days. The elite were taken away, and the second exile occurred. The problem was not youth, but lack of roots. Many young people do not lose to temptation, but because they fail to stand firm. We too must reflect: outwardly we may appear vigorous, but inwardly are we easily surrendered to the world? Our spiritual foundation determines whether we stand firm. 4. Zedekiah (v11–21) Zedekiah was Judah’s last king. God repeatedly urged him through Jeremiah to turn back, obey, and not rely on Egypt. Yet Scripture says he “stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the Lord God of Israel.” Priests, people, and leaders mocked God’s messengers and despised His words. Thus the temple was burned, the walls torn down, the vessels carried off, the people exiled and the nation utterly destroyed. What truly brings destruction is not sin itself, but the refusal to repent. It is not that God cannot save, but that people become so hardened they refused to be saved. II. God Himself Remembers His People (2 Chronicles 36:22–23) When the seventy years were fulfilled, God stirred the heart of Cyrus, king of Persia, to issue a decree of return: “Who is among you of all His people? and let him go up!” History was not determined by Babylon, nor by Egypt, but driven by God. Even as the people endured desolation, exile, and defeat, God remembered them and did not forget them. Desolation was not the end, but a turning point; God's return marked a new beginning. Conclusion: 100% righteousness, faithfulness and mercy. God is 100% righteous, 100% faithful, 100% merciful. The story of the four kings teaches us: those who do evil destroy themselves, but those who repent are blessed. God has mercy on human weakness, but His discipline does not diminish. Seventy years later, when the people were willing to turn back, God Himself brought them back and said, “Everything is in My hands.” The same holds true today. Our work is in His hands; our families, relationships, health, and future are all in His hands. We may still be in ruins now, but as long as we are willing to keep returning to God, keep keeping the covenant, and keep walking uprightly, there is hope, there is blessing, and there is a new beginning. For everything is in God's hands.
