Esther 6: Human Schemes, God’s Reversal
GK611 Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Daniel Kew 21.01.2026 I. The King’s Sleepless Night Was from God (Esth. 6:1–3) 1. The Night the King Could Not Sleep (V1) God used one sleepless night of a king—while the historical records were being read—to set in motion the great reversal of His plan to save the Jews. When we experience sleepless nights, traffic jams, or disrupted plans, instead of rushing to complain, we should first ask God,“Lord, what do You want to say to me in this ‘stuck’ moment?” Perhaps God is about to reverse the plot of our lives. 2. A Forgotten Deed Is Brought to Light(V2–3) The records happened to recount an old incident: Mordecai had exposed a plot by two eunuchs to assassinate the king. Upon hearing this, the king immediately asked, “What honor or recognition has Mordecai received for this?” The answer was: nothing at all. What we quietly do in the workplace, in the family, and in the church is all recorded in God’s book of history. Continue to be faithful—at His perfect time, God will read your name aloud before the “king.” II. Haman was Certain of His Victory (Esth. 6:4–9) 1. Haman’s “Perfect Calculation”(V4–5) At daybreak, Haman rushed eagerly to the palace. The night before, he had consulted his wife and friends and planned to ask the king first thing in the morning for permission to hang Mordecai. In his mind, he was already imagining Mordecai hanging high on the gallows, convinced that he had won. When you feel an urge to “teach someone a lesson” or prove that you are right, pause and ask God, “Lord, is this Your timing?” Perhaps God is preparing a much greater reversal. 2. Haman’s “Perfect Advice”(V6–9) The king asked, “What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?” Haman thought to himself, “Who could the king delight to honor more than me?” So he offered what he believed to be the perfect plan: royal robes, the king’s horse, a royal crown, a procession through the city, and a high-ranking official proclaiming, “This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor!” Do we sometimes crown ourselves in our hearts—thinking, “I deserve the blessing most,” “I’m the one who’s right,” or “I’m the most wronged”? Pride dulls our ability to hear God’s voice. Learn humility—give glory first to God and to others. III. God’s Marvelous Great Reversal (Esth. 6:10–14) 1. The King’s Command and Its Execution(V10–11) The king said, “Go at once and do just as you have suggested for Mordecai!” The man Haman hated most received the highest honor he himself had proposed. When you are misunderstood, framed, or forgotten, do not rush to defend yourself. Entrust the matter to God. He will overturn the situation in the most unexpected way—sometimes even turning your enemies into instruments of blessing. 2. The Prophecy of Haman’s Downfall(V12–14) Haman went home with his head covered and told his wife and friends everything that had happened. Their response was a grim prophecy: “You will surely fall completely before Mordecai.” When you see God at work on your behalf, be like Mordecai—remain calm and humble, and continue faithfully in your position. Do not become proud because of a temporary victory, for the ultimate victory belongs to God alone. Conclusion: Human Plans Are No Match for God’s Plans We may think we are skilled planners, yet often our calculations backfire on ourselves. May we learn, like Mordecai, to wait quietly upon God—because His reversals are always more wonderful, more timely, and more glorious than anything we could ever imagine.
