Isaiah 46: The God Who Never Changes

Introduction: God "has spoken it, and it shall bring to pass", He "purposed it, and it shall be done" (V11).

I. The care of God (V1-7)

1. Protection & embrace (V1-4)

Whether the people understood it or not, God's calling for Cyrus would never change. But God is more inclined to let the people understand He cares for them. For God, no matter how ignorant the people are, He still proclaims with the heart of a parent that they are cherished and cared for by God with unchanging parental love and protection, from birth to old age.

2. Out of tribulation (V5-7)

Idols burdened the animals, and even wear each other out. But the people of Israel were embraced by God. The idols of Babylon were powerless, but God wanted to bring back the captive people. Therefore, the people must see that God alone is the one who can save them from their troubles, not any other idol.

II. The Calling of God (V8-13)

1.Recall God (V8-11)

God commanded His people to listen and think about all the works of God, to remember the ancient things of Israel so that they might know the God of Israel, the LORD. The reason why God wanted the people to recall was that Israel was constantly wandering between God and idols.

2. Listen to God (V12-13)

God wanted the people of Israel to listen to what He said to them, because He wanted them to know that even if they were in trouble, God's salvation would surely be upon them, and their hope was in God's hands. He wants to let the people know that He wants Zion to carry out His salvation and fulfil His plan of righteousness, salvation, and glory.

Conclusion:

The idol of the enemy is only made by human hands and needs to be repaired by human hands, but our God is the Lord who planned all things. The world cannot compare to the Lord God, because He never changes!
