忙 =心+死

Exodus 31:
Serve and Rest

I.God Chose You to Serve Him (Exodus 31:1-11)

1.Serving with the Anointing of the Holy Spirit (vv. 1-5)

God personally named Bezalel and entrusted him with the task of building the tabernacle. Verse 3 states that God filled him with His Spirit, anointing him with wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and creativity to craft the tabernacle and its furnishings, fulfilling His calling.

Every person is born with talents given by God. Whether in our workplace, family, or church, we are all called by God. He does not expect us to serve with our own limited abilities, but through the presence and anointing of the Holy Spirit, He grants us wisdom, intelligence, knowledge, strategy, and creativity to fulfill His commission.

Verse 3 emphasizes twice that Bezalel was capable of doing “all kinds of work.” The key is not what we possess but whether our service carries the presence of the Holy Spirit. Service with the Holy Spirit will always have a heavenly impact. Those filled with the Spirit, as the verse describes, can do all kinds of work—because it is the Holy Spirit working through them.

Let’s reflect: In our work, family, and church service, are we relying on the Holy Spirit or merely on our own talents and abilities?

2.Growing in Wisdom Through Teamwork (v. 6)

God not only chose Bezalel but also called Oholiab to work alongside him, and He involved many skilled craftsmen in the construction of the tabernacle.

God selected Oholiab to work with Bezalel and assembled a team of skilled workers. He also promised that those who were wise in heart would be given even more wisdom.

Serving as a team requires unity. God grants different gifts and talents to different people, and all things work together for the good of those who love Him. When people with diverse strengths willingly cooperate and serve together, God will use team service not only to enhance our abilities but, more importantly, to strengthen our spiritual lives. It increases our faith, reliance on the Holy Spirit, and wisdom in dealing with people and situations.

When working with a team, do we appreciate each other’s strengths? Are we willing to support and complement one another in service?

3.Obeying God’s Plan (v. 11)

God gave clear instructions on how to build the tabernacle and reminded them twice to follow His commands precisely. Serving God is not about doing things our way but following His will. However, many people easily fall into self-centered service.

Obeying God’s plan and carrying out His instructions is crucial. When we submit to God’s plan, success is guaranteed, because God always blesses His own plans.

Change is the only constant in 611. In a constantly changing world, church service requires us to adapt to align with God’s plans. Our goal should be to obey His will and please His heart. When we do, the Holy Spirit will guide the entire team, making the service effective and fulfilling.

II.Rest Brings Better Service (Exodus 31:12-18)

1.A Sign of the Covenant with God (vv. 13, 17)

One important reason for keeping the Sabbath is that it signifies our covenant with God. The Sabbath sets us apart from the world to worship and praise Him.

2.Returning to God’s Rhythm (vv. 14-16)

The Chinese character for “busy” (忙) consists of “heart” (心) and “death” (死), meaning that excessive busyness can lead to spiritual death.

Modern life moves at an increasingly fast pace, and many Christians lose themselves in busyness. When people become too busy, their hearts grow weary. God established the Sabbath to free us from this cycle. Those who serve God must also take time to pause, connect with Him, and be refreshed.

For six days, we work, and on the seventh day, we set it apart as holy to worship God and find rest in Him. This is not just a suggestion—it is a commandment! It was also God’s final instruction on Mount Sinai. He wants us to follow His rhythm and enjoy the blessings of the Sabbath.

The purpose of building the tabernacle was to provide a place where people could enter God’s rest. In His presence, we are renewed and recharged. By aligning our priorities with His rhythm, we ensure that our lives include time for rest, family, and God. There is a time for work, a time for service, and a time for rest. Only then will our work and ministry bear good fruit, glorifying God while also bringing us honor.

Are we investing our time in eternal matters, or are we being driven by the world’s pace?

Conclusion: Rest Is Essential for Longevity in Service

Serving God is not just about working hard but also learning to enter His rest. When we align ourselves with God’s rhythm—being renewed first and then moving forward—our service becomes more effective. Let’s be faithful servants who also know how to rest, living a life that glorifies God
