Ezra Chapter 3: A Life Fully Offered — Rebuilding a Life of Worship
GK611 Morning Devotion 17/07/2025 The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps. Stella Introduction: Giving is not just a one-time donation or short-term mission participation, but it is a continuous, faith-filled, and reverent response of life. I. Rebuilding the Altar: Restoring the Foundation of Worship (3:1–6) 1. Unity in Heart — Returning to God’s Law (v.1–2) The people gathered as one, demonstrating spiritual unity. They worshiped according to the instructions in the Law of Moses, the man of God. This shows that their "unity" was not driven by emotional hype or human persuasion, but by reverence and obedience to God's Word. They understood that worship is not self-expression, but surrender and response to God. 2. Offering Burnt Offerings — A Life Fully Surrendered (v.3–6) Despite threats and fear from surrounding nations, the people persisted in offering sacrifices. This reveals their unwavering priority in worshiping God. They offered burnt offerings—symbolizing complete burning, a total, unreserved offering to God. This was an attitude of no compromise and no holding back. Daily sacrifices established a rhythm and pattern of worship, making it the core of life, not just occasional spiritual highs. II. Rebuilding the Temple: Restoring the Practice of Worship (3:7–13) 1. Preparing Materials — Paying the Price of Worship (v.7) The temple construction was a massive project requiring stonemasons, carpenters, cedar wood, and transport routes—all provided and prepared by the people together. This was their worship expressed through costly sacrifice. True worship engages not only our emotions but also our resources, money, and energy. Without tangible giving, it cannot be called “a life fully offered.” 2. Laying the Foundation — Rejoicing and Weeping in Worship (v.8–13) When the foundation of the temple was laid, two sounds were heard: the younger generation shouted with joy at the beginning of God’s work; the older generation wept loudly, remembering the glory of Solomon’s temple. Worship is not about uniform emotions, but honest expressions of the soul—there is joy, and there is sorrow. God receives every sincere response, not for its form, but for the truth within the heart. Conclusion: The spiritual revival of the Israelites began with the rebuilding of the altar. Today, the revival of our own lives must also start with restoring a lifestyle of worship. True worship means: 1. God-Centered — Returning to His Word, letting Him take first place. 2. Fully Offered — Living each day for the Lord, unshaken by circumstances. 3. Costly Sacrifice — Not giving God leftovers, but offering Him our best.
