Ezra Chapter 6: God's Heart Shall Surely Be Fulfilled
GK611 Morning Devotion 23/07/2025 The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps. Stella Introduction: Though God's work may be delayed, it will surely come to pass I. God Reigns and Changes Hearts (Ezra 6:1–12) 1. Search the Ancient Scroll to Reveal God’s Will (v1–2) After receiving the letter accusing the Israelites, King Darius ordered a search for the ancient scroll —and astonishingly, the past decree from King Cyrus was found. This shows that God can cause someone to “bring out the scroll” at just the right time. Likewise, God will not forget the calling and order in our lives. 2. The King Re-issues the Decree to build the Temple (v3–5) Once the decree was found, Darius not only confirmed it but expanded it, officially restarting the temple construction. God not only resumes the work but also restores the resources and the sacred vessels for worship. Today we must understand: a pause in our spiritual lives is not the end. God will issue His command again—in His time. 3. Opponents Now Become Helpers (v6–10) Tattenai and others who once opposed the work were now ordered to support the rebuilding. God can turn enemies into channels of blessing. Therefore, we can trust that God is able to reverse the situation—turning opponents into instruments of progress. 4. A Warning Not to Interfere with God’s Work (v11–12) Darius gave a stern warning against any interference with the temple project and acknowledged the LORD as the God of Jerusalem. Likewise, we must revere the sacred work entrusted to us—devoting ourselves wholeheartedly and not treating it lightly. Summary: God can move those in power, uncover history, and overturn opposition to fulfill His plans. Do not be discouraged by delays—God’s timing is never late. II. God Personally Completes His Holy Work (Ezra 6:13–15) 1. Prompt Obedience to the Decree (v13) This time, the enemies “promptly” obeyed the royal command and pushed forward the building of the temple. God Himself turned adversaries into facilitators. So we do not need to fight on our own—just trust God and follow His leading. 2. Rely on the prophets and be strengthened (v14) The words from prophets Haggai and Zechariah continually encouraged the people, enabling the construction to continue. God’s Word is an essential source of strength in the building process. When we feel weak, His Word becomes our support. 3. Completion of the Holy Work Brings Glory to God (v15) The completion of the temple demonstrated God’s faithfulness and presence. It proves that the work God begins, He will surely bring to completion. So don’t give up easily. III. God Restores the Life of Worship (Ezra 6:16–22) 1. Joyful Dedication of the Temple by the People (v16–17) The people offered sacrifices according to the law, rejoicing and worshipping God. This reminds us that when God accomplishes great things, we should respond with thanksgiving and worship. 2. Establishing God-Ordained Order (v18) At that time, the duties of the priests and Levites were restored, and the order of worship was re-established. This shows that spiritual life requires order and submission to God’s appointed authority. 3. Returnees's Purification and Celebration of the Festival (v19–22) The people purified themselves and celebrated the Passover, remembering God’s redemption. Likewise, we should frequently recall God’s grace and draw near to Him with a clean heart. Summary: The restoration of worship is the climax of God’s grace. Worship is not a mere formality—it is a response of the heart and an act of obedience. Conclusion: God is the One Who Begins and Finishes the Work God reigns – He moved the king to search the ancient scroll and restart the holy work. God fulfills – He personally led the work to its completion. God restores – He renewed spiritual life and brought joy.
