Leviticus 11 God's Holy MenuGK611 Morning Devotion 16.07.2026 Speaker: Ps Daniel Kew I. What Is on the Table Reveals Our Identity (Leviticus 11:1–23) 1.God First Reminds Us of Our Identity as His People (V1–8) Through the dietary laws, God reminded the Israelites that they were not Egyptians, but His own people. If God declared something clean, it was clean; if He declared it unclean, it was not to be eaten. When people forget their identity, they begin to live like the world. But when they remember that they belong to God, they willingly obey Him. Today, although we are no longer required to observe these dietary regulations, we are still called to make godly choices every day. Should I say these words? Should I lose my temper? Should I earn this money? Every decision bears witness to one truth: I belong to God. 2.God Develops Our Spiritual Discernment (V9–12) God instructed His people to eat only fish with fins and scales. He was not teaching biology; He was training their spiritual discernment. Not everything is suitable for God's people. We must learn to distinguish between what builds up our spiritual life and what draws us away from Him. Today, we need to discern more than just food. We must ask ourselves: What should I watch? What should I accept? What will help me love the Lord more and become more like Christ? The world says, "If you like it, it's fine." God says, "Exercise discernment. Do not simply follow the crowd." 3.God Shapes the Values of His Kingdom (V13–23) God listed the birds and insects that were not to be eaten and called them "detestable," because many of them fed on carcasses, dead animals, or lived by prey and destruction. Through these instructions, God taught His people the values of His Kingdom: His people are to be set apart, keeping away from death, corruption and greed, while living in holiness. Being set apart does not mean rejecting the world; it means refusing to let the world define our values. II. Stay Away from Uncleanness and Cut Off Defilement (Leviticus 11:24–43) 1.Defilement Affects Our Lives (V24–28) Through the laws concerning dead animals, God reminded His people that uncleanness is contagious. Today, we also encounter people, situations, and influences that can defile our hearts. Therefore, we should draw near to God before engaging with the world, stay away from temptation, and allow Him to continually cleanse our hearts. 2.Defilement Spreads to Others (V29–40) God further explained that when an unclean animal came into contact with a clay vessel, food or water, those things also became unclean. This reminded the Israelites that uncleanness spreads and that God was protecting the entire community. Sin works the same way today. A harsh word, a lie, or one wrong decision can affect many people. In the same way, godliness is also contagious. May we never become a source of pollution, but rather a channel of God's blessing. 3.Completely Remove Every Form of Uncleanness (V41–43) God called the creatures that crawl on the ground detestable and repeatedly commanded, "Do not." The most dangerous attitude toward sin is thinking, "Leaving just a little won't matter." What we tolerate today will often grow tomorrow. Likewise, God calls us to draw a clear line between ourselves and sin, leaving no room for temptation. True wisdom is avoiding temptation before we fall and cutting off every source of defilement. III. Align with God and Live a Holy Life (Leviticus 11:44–47) 1.Align with God's Holy Nature (V44–45) God did not require Israel to become holy before He redeemed them. He first delivered them and then called them to live holy lives. Likewise, through the redemption of Jesus Christ, we have become God's children. Therefore, we are called to align ourselves daily with God's holiness and reflect His character. 2.Align with God's Standard of Discernment (V46–47) These verses summarize the entire chapter. God gave His people more than dietary regulations—He gave them a standard of discernment so that they could live as a people set apart for Him. Today, we should be concerned not only about what we feed our bodies, but also what we allow into our hearts and minds. True holiness means asking every day: What draws me closer to God? What pulls me away from Him? Conclusion: Through the food on the table, God accomplished three important purposes: helping His people recognize their identity, stay away from defilement, and align themselves with Him. True holinessis not merely about keeping rules; it is about becoming more and more like God.
