Psalm 38: God! I'm running out of road!
GK611 Morning Devotion 27/07/2025 The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Asher Introduction: A bad day! I. The Source of All Returns to the Lord (Psalm 38:1-8) 1. Return to yourself and humbly confess your sins (v1-5) David didn’t defend himself. Instead, he cried out in deep remorse: “Lord, do not rebuke me in Your wrath.” He admitted his wrongs without excuses, and with a glimmer of hope, pleaded for God's mercy. Confession isn’t the scary part — the real danger is not even realizing where we’ve gone wrong. True repentance begins when we’re willing to face ourselves, lay down our pride, and humbly return to God. 2. In Pain and Helplessness, Only the Lord Can Save (v6–8) David stopped pretending to be strong and no longer hid behind his pride. Instead, he laid himself bare before God: “I am in pain, I mourning all day long, my body is worn out.” This is the turning point of true repentance—when God's deliverance begins to come when one finally says, ‘Lord, I can’t go on.’ II. Be Honest and Open Before God (Psalm 38:9–12) 1. Hiding Doesn’t Help, Darkness Takes Over (v9–10) David said, Lord, all my desire is before You; And my sighing is not hidden from You. We may hide our emotions from others or even fool ourselves into thinking we’re fine—but before God, nothing is hidden. Avoiding the issue doesn’t help; it only gives darkness room to grow, dulls our conscience, and wears down our soul. 2. People Don’t Understand, But God Knows It All (v11–12) David experienced not only inner collapse but also relational breakdown: My friends and relatives stand afar off, while enemies took the chance to attack. We, too may be misunderstood, isolated, or labeled as “problematic”. But thank God—people may not know what we’re going through, yet God knows it all. He begins His healing right from that hidden crack in our hearts. III. Choosing Silence and Steadfast Trust (Psalm 38:13–20) David said, I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, like the mute, who cannot speak... but I wait for You, O Lord my God; You will answer. When wronged, we often want to defend ourselves—but David chose silence, not out of fear, but out of faith. Keeping silent wasn’t giving up; it was surrendering to God. True fear of God is trusting God when we have the strength to fight back. True humility is confessing our own sin even when we have reason to complain. So, instead of speaking or striking, we lift our eyes to the righteous and loving Lord. IV. Only God Can Make a Way (Psalm 38:21–22) “O Lord, do not forsake me!”. This was David's cry in his agony, not for a quick turnaround, but for God not to forsake him. This is a “psalm of remembrance” where David cries out among the people: “Lord, if You remember names, please remember mine.” He didn’t rely on others or blame them—he simply asked, “Lord, hurry to help me.” Because he knew: only God can make a way. Conclusion: When we face pain and misunderstanding, the first step is to come before God and examine ourselves. When we are willing to open up, repent, and stop relying on our own strength—our God truly desires to save us!
