9|Proverb 9

05/08/2024

8|Proverb 8

04/08/2024

7|Proverb 7

03/08/2024

Psalm 32: “Blessed is the one who confesses his sins!
GK611 Morning Devotion
02/08/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: IP Asher Chang

Introduction: If you know your mistakes and can correct them, you can do great things, but what is the prerequisite?
This psalm of instruction from David was written after he committed adultery with Bathsheba. It describes David’s journey and helps us understand sin more deeply.

1. Blessed are those who confess their sins (V 1-4)

Verses 1-2 contrast with verses 3-4, depicting the lives of those who are willing to confess their sins and those who remain silent. If a person does not know God and only knows his mistakes and can correct them, his transgressions cannot be forgiven; but if a person who knows God faces himself honestly and sincerely confesses his sins and repent before God, God will forgive him and cover his sins, this is blessed!
Sin is a burden and poison in the human heart. When we refuse to confess our sins, our body, mind, and spirit will not be able to rest.

2. If a person confesses his sins, God will forgive him (V 5)

God is omniscient and He already knows everything about us. No one can hide his sin from God. After committing a crime, we must face it and deal with it. Since God already knows everything about us, why do we need to confess our sins to God?
Confession, confessing sin to God, is admitting to Him something that He already knows, even before we sin. We confess our sins because God will forgive us. This is the meaning of confession.

3. Seize the opportunity to confess your sins to God (V 6-7)

Sin causes pain and suffering, therefore we must seize the opportunity to confess our sins. The time to confess our sins is not up to us, but to seize the opportunity immediately when God is willing to show mercy. Because we cannot predict our fate, life and death, we should confess our sins promptly.

4. Always be alert and stay away from ignorance (V 8-11)

We need to be taught and submit to God’s guidance or we will suffer more. Although we still don’t understand many things, those who hide in God have God Himself as their instructor, guiding the way they should go.
People are often unwilling to submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit. For such people, God will let them rush to death like ignorant mules and horses; for those who are willing to confess and repent, God will rein them in with bits and bridles, discipline and restore them through the circumstances.

Conclusion: Blessed are those who confess their sins!

Psalm 31 Prayer that touches the heart of God
GK611 Morning Devotion
01/08/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Deborah Tan

1. Knowing God’s Attributes (v1-8)

Ear: like a father who bends down to listen to his child.

(1) Honestly speaking what is in your heart (v1-4)

David’s prayer was very real in stating his situation with the struggles in his heart and his longing for God’s deliverance. He asked God to bend down and listen to his prayer.

Our prayers don’t need a lot of fancy and spiritual words. What God cares about is that we speak honestly to Him about the feelings in our hearts.

(2) Souls are surrendered into the hands of a faithful God (v5-8)

David gave himself without reservation. Because he trusted God. He knew that the faithful God would redeem him. Today, if we are willing to surrender our souls into God’s hands, He will protect us to the end.

Understanding the attributes of God is an important secret to having your prayers heard. Understanding God’s attributes not only increases our faith and fear of God, but also enables us to know Him more deeply. Understanding God’s plan better enables us to pray according to God’s heart.

2. A Deeper Call to God (v9-18)

(2) The cry of the heart (9-13)

David was weakened by his illness and his spirit was growing weak. Coupled with the abuse of his enemies, the shunning of his family and friends, and with the enemy seemingly gaining the upper hand, his eyes began to turn to pouring out his pain. V12 Broken vessels represent trash. David felt like he was a broken vessel, useless and discarded for others.

When we inadvertently fall into ocusing on difficulties in situations like this, pray that God will enable us to turn to Him quickly. Come to God like David did and pour out our grievances. God is pleased to have us come to Him through confession, and through confession to examine our hearts, to realise our weaknesses thoroughly, and to proclaim, ‘You are my God!

(2) You are my God! (14-18)

As David turns his focus back to God and sees that You are my God, he is once again confident and declares that all his time is in God’s hands.

Though we can envision, plan, plot, and work on our own, we cannot predict, in advance, what will befall us, what will happen to us, what will happen to us, either blessings or disaster. So, thankfully, whether we like it or not, our time is in God’s hands. Not in the hands of the devil or anyone else, nor in fate.

3. A Call for all to Love God (v19-24)

(1) Praise God for His protection and grace (v19-22)

David praises God for He prepared abundant grace and protection for those who fear and trust Him. Even in the most difficult times, God does not abandon those who trust in Him.

(2) Calling all the holy people to come to love God (v23-24)

Those who do not love God do not know Him well enough because they have not yet truly experienced His love in their experiences. We who have tasted God’s grace are to pray and intercede for those who have not yet experienced God’s love and invite them all to come and love God.

Conclusion:

– To touch the heart of God in prayer, we need to truly know God and His attributes.

– Come to fellowship with God with spirit and truth. Pray to touch the heart of God, and moreover, to have a deeper awakening of our own souls.
– To invite all to love God.

Psalm 30 God’s Salvation and Grace
GK611 Morning Devotion
31/07/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Stella Ling

Introduction:

In this personal psalm of thanksgiving, David acknowledges God’s salvation and calls on the congregation to join him in praising God; he remembers his own past sins, but he also reaffirms his praise to God.

1. God’s healing salvation (v1-3)

David recalls his low points, when he was pursued by his enemies and nearly killed, when he walked through the valley of the shadow of death, when he was critically ill, and yet God delivered him and his life survived. All these were the grace of God, and it was God’s healing and salvation that brought him back from the brink of death.

Today, we are all lifted up by God, and it is because of God’s mercy and grace that we are pulled up from the pit of sin and death.

2. God’s enduring grace (v4-5)

David knew deep down that God’s wrath is short-lived and that His grace endures. Though sorrow comes at times, joy will eventually come. Therefore, the Lord is to be praised.

We are all more prone to praise God in times of peace and good times. However, do we still praise God in the midst of difficulty and pain? Do we believe that God’s grace will eventually bring joy?

3. A God who promises mercy (v6-10)

David admits that he had thought himself secure, but he felt fear when God covered his face. As a result, he asked God for mercy and help, recognising the importance of relying on Him. We may not have a high position as David, but with all that we have, we could very well be displaced and have nothing if it were not for God’s grace.

4. The God who turns sorrow into joy (v11-12)

God turned David’s grief into joy. When David was on the run, when he was in great pain, it was God who helped him to come out of it. As a result, David decided to always give thanks to God and express his gratitude to Him.

Today, we also need to constantly experience God’s grace and give thanks and praise persistently. We need to look for and witness God’s works in our lives.

Conclusion:

Psalm 30 reminds us that in every stage of life, in good times and in bad, we should rely on God, call on God, and give thanks to God. God’s grace and salvation turn our sorrows into joy, so let us always give thanks and praise to our Lord.

1 Chronicles 29 Lead by Example in Offering
GK611 Morning Devotion
30/07/2024
The Morning Devotion Speaker: Ps Daniel Kew

Introduction:

King David was not only a great king, but a great spiritual leader, and his dedication set an example for us.

1. David led the crowd in offering willingly (V1-9)

(1) David took the lead in offering generously (V1-5)

David himself set an example. Because he loved the temple of God in his heart, he did his best to prepare the materials for building the temple. He also donated the gold and silver he had saved to build the temple of God. As a leader, David did not hesitate to donate his personal savings and encouraged his people to do the same.

If we want to mobilise everyone to do something together today, we must first lead by example and dedicate ourselves first, and then others will follow. Especially those who have the hardest work and the most price to pay, they must take the lead and influence others with practical actions.

(2) All leaders are willing to respond (V6-9)

David’s example of generosity led the leaders in donating gold, silver, and precious stones to build God’s temple willingly. This willingness to give to God is a time of great rejoicing!

We should also give willingly and cheerfully. Whether it’s money, time, or talent, like David and the people of Israel, we must be willing to give everything we have. Contribution is not only material, but also our worship and obedience to God.

2. David praised God for being able to contribute (V10-20)

Here David prayed and praised God for everyone’s dedication. He praised Jehovah as the Most High and the Head of all, from whom all the riches and honours come. David admitted that he and his people were not worthy of consecration to God; they were only consecrating to God for all came from God.

Like David, we should acknowledge that everything we have comes from God. We may not be richer than David, but we can cultivate a heart that is willing to give and regard giving as an opportunity to participate in eternity and as God’s grace. Then, giving is no longer a burden but a joyful and thankful thing.

3. David’s rich and honourable life (V21-30)

1) Solomon was anointed king (V21-25)

David and the people held a grand sacrificial ceremony after the dedication, which showed their reverence and gratitude to God. David later formally anointed Solomon as king and received God’s blessing and the people’s obedience. Solomon’s greatness and majesty were the blessings given to him by God, and they were also the result of David’s leading by example and faithful service to God.

Our dedication and faithfulness will not only bring blessings from God but will also impact our descendants and those around us. We should lead others by example and lead others on the path of God so that they can also experience God’s blessing and guidance.

(2) Everything about David is remembered (V26-30)

David reigned for forty years, and his life was filled with riches and honours. When he was old, he passed away peacefully at the end of his days and passed the throne to Solomon. King David’s deeds were recorded in detail in many books of the Bible, and his life became an example and teaching for future generations.

Our lives should be like David’s, being able to serve as examples and teachings for future generations, setting an example of dedication and loyalty for future generations.

Conclusion:

Like David, let us lead by example and give to God willingly.
Our dedication is not to complete a temporary task, but to offer our whole life as a living sacrifice! Dedicate your life to serving God.

4|Proverb 4

27/07/2024
